Well the way that healing works in the cosmere (and the fact that it works on shardblade wounds) tells us that some very large part of the cognitive, at least, remains intact after begin Shardbladed: otherwise magic wouldn't be able to use "cognitive templates" to heal you back to your normal self. Also recall that Spren (at least bond-spren, it seems) are Splinters, and Splinters have an even mix of Cognitive/Spiritual, so it's not too terrible for them to have a Spiritual impact.

Well I myself think Identity is the right track, at least; specifically its soul.

Actually he clarified on that: Feruchemical gold actually can do that.

Stormlight retention as a function of gem size
Kurkistan replied to Kurkistan's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yes, but that could conceivably have been a function of their faceting or the like; also bigger gemstones, more detail, more of a chance they're gemhearts (and so better than the average bear in terms of quality). -
Yeah, that's what I meant: burning the health Allomantically. Heck, if you can manipulate Identity such that someone completely different can compound your metalminds, I think you can get away with burning your own. If not just bring a Full Feruchemist into the mix and have them do some Identity-manipulation (using Health they can Compound with "borrowed" Allomantic gold spike you can definitely produce for free, if you feel like it) so that you can Comound their goldminds instead.

I linked to it earlier, but to summarize how easy it is to get infinite everything with this mechanic. If you start out with a gold compounder, you can even do it without any death. Scenario 1: Required: 1 gold Compounder. Spike out his Allomantic gold and have him heal it back. Spike out his Feruchemical gold and have him Compound it back. KEEP DOING THIS. Transfer sets of spikes to other people and then spike out all their other attributes. So give a pair of Allomantic gold/Feruchemical gold to a Coinshot and then keep spiking his Allomantic steel out forever. Or give them to a muggle and infinite human attributes for everyone. Once you get a single person gold compounding, it spreads. Other Scenarios: Beyond that, I think you need at least one death. Moral of the story: once you get a pair of people with "natural" (read: spike-out-able) Allomantic gold and Feruchemical gold + either an Allomantic gold or an Feruchemical gold spike that was generously donated by a terminally ill centenarian, you can start the cycle. ------- I agree with Skaa, though, that I also had the impression that Brandon hadn't considered this, and once he realizes the implications of this ("why we don't have/want to write about a society of perfect people") he'll leverage his "plausible" in the WoB into "but there's a 98% chance that Miles would die from the shock of it" or "turns out the Spiritual shock disrupts the rest of his magic for an instant or two".

Oh that's not all it means...

Ah, he thought that the questioner was referring to the Alloy supplement for the Mistborn Adventure Game? (they used "Full Feruchemist" in it). EDIT: Well that was fast. Someone give one of Brandon's old posts an upvote for me. Source:

Either Brandon misunderstood the question or, as I've been postulating for awhile now, the nature of how Hemalurgy harms the soul makes it harder/impossible to heal back than Shardblade wounds; that and soul-damage can apparently kill you outright, since presumably Miles would at least be able to heal the physical damage. I "Commented" a follow-up.

Stormlight retention as a function of gem size

UPDATE: So I was right after all... Source: (paraphrase) -
That's... unhelpful. We've known about Soother being able to Soothe intra-cloud since book 1, and I'd always assumed they weren't somehow limited when clouded, and obviously it's "possible" for someone burning Duralumin or who has a spike or something to Seek through any cloud...

@Argent Timebubblestimebubbles and FORMS!!!!, but some other stuff too. Like if you can heal back Spiked-out powers.

I asked... many. None of which anyone else will ask, almost certainly.

Very courageous of you! Myself, I was standing up there stammering like an idiot and forgetting half my questions when I was at a signing, so good work thinking of/asking something on the spot like that. Unfortunately, this question has already been asked and answered—though I don't believe he's specifically said that the soul-draining-murder is guaranteed to happen to non-Nalthians, so that's one chink of doubt filled in. Or Honorblades just interact differently with the Heralds than with muggles, as is suggested if Taln is Taln.

Jasnah's experience in Shadesmar--touching beads for doors and wall-lamps as well as the bead for the whole building--suggests that these individual identities are subsumed rather than destroyed.

If this is RJ "humanizing by showing faults", then I imagine that his idea of a Persian flaw is to throw the rug into a wood-chipper.

Most uses of "Storm" in one sentence.
Kurkistan replied to blad3mast3r's topic in Stormlight Archive
Probably wise, as those storming storm-leavings are figuring out that you can write entire books using only storm-cursed run-on sentences; as if the spirit of the rules of grammar were mere stormleavings—as the Stormfather taught us they certainly are not!—and our fellow man did not deserve his clauses to be properly broken into sentences rather than painfully stitched together for your storming amusement! -
Well Honor was pretty firm about who killed him, and Brandon implicitly confirmed it in this WoB.

the most useless uses for useful powers

Loveable Characters you actually don't care about....
Kurkistan replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
@Swimmingly/Maxal Darest thee challenge my supreme knowledge!!!??!?! (But seriously, even counting RAFO's he's really not referenced in most of them. This is helped by the fact that a large number of the WoB's we have (especially from transcriptions and the like) are from questions asked by the non-cosmere-literati. And even a lot of Sharders don't usually focus on him: I've asked over a dozen questions and not one about Hoid.) -

Kurkistan replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
Just stopping by for some quick fact-checking: Given my Wizard of the Cosmere (the member-title only has room for a certain number of characters, last time I checked) status, I can assure you all that Hoid has neither a plurality nor a majority of WoB's. Carry on.
