Feruchemical decay and speed of investiture
Kurkistan replied to Fallen Rope's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Source: The "lost" energy is a matter of using up some energy to be able to effectively use other energy in more and more "compressed" ways. The way I would phrase it, then, is that it's not a function of the amount of energy being handled, but rather of compressing down relatively small pieces of Feruchemical energy stored over days into big fat energy packets you can use up in a few minutes. -
Questions you'd like to see answered on Shardcast
Kurkistan replied to firstRainbowRose's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Addendum: does one of you guys have the actual bonafide source for this whole "decapitation kills" claim? The best I've yet been able to find is Chaos asserting it (quite possibly with good reason/WoB behind it, but still) over on the RPG site. http://mistbornrpg.17thshard.com/topic/230-questions-for-brandon/page__view__findpost__p__2590047 -
Welcome to the forums! Well I suppose the natural choice is to read the Alloy of Law Mistborn book, as it's the last of the set so far and you've already read the trilogy. It's a bit of a lighter mystery/adventure story set a few hundred years after the end of Hero of Ages.

I would assume from how Brandon's answered these types of questions (here's another instance) that the Nalthians wouldn't perceive any difference between a muggle Scadrian and a 1-Breath Nalthian. He equates Breath to innate investiture/life-force, and recall Vasher's ability to Life-Sense Syl of all people, not to mention Kaladin. You can't Life-Sense drabs—though in that case I suppose a (thin, given the proponderance of evidence) argument could be made that he was detecting their extra investiture rather than native investiture. Moral of the story is that "life sense" seems to be more akin to "investiture sense" than anything else, so if you have innate investiture you don't look like a Drab.
-
They would not be Drab but would not automatically get a "Breath" in the sense of Endowmenty, giftable innate investiture. It seems that Breaths are an Endowment thing. @Moogle Ah, I see your Ninja ways. My first link is for your second citation. EDIT: Also, that first WoB doesn't quiet answer the question. It tells us that Drab => No-Return, but not neceessarily that Not-Drab => Return. For all we know (and I'd even say "in all likelihood") the Return process requires not just that you not be drab, but that you have the Endowment-granted Breath.
-
Well doy. Shows me for reading too quick and classifying that WoB as saying that the tripartite system was incomplete.

I'd doubt that everything can be categorized like that on each world, given this: Source:

Very well, if we're to insist that varied and subtle Pushing on multiple points of the coin as necessary in order to achieve this effect, then I guess I'll have to be so crass as to cite actual evidence. If you would care to open a copy of TFE, you will find Vin--on her very first night as a practicing Mistborn and her first time using Allomantic steel--hovering above a single coin. Kelsier is in no way surprised by this and explains this as making multiple minute adjustments, iirc. Pushing can be and is subconsciously quite sophisticated and subtle even as a matter of course, then, rather than needing super-awesome training/abilities. The surprising thing about Zane is not and never was his ability to hover above a single coin. Rather, it was his ability to do so at low-altitude. During Vin's initial training we learned that its very hard to be so precise while also using less than the full force of a Push: while allomancers can vary the strength of their Pushes/Pulls, it is hard to do so. So Vin ended up hovering at her maximum possible height above the aforementioned coin. Zane, on the other hand, managed to say steady just a few feet above it, and precisely control how his body shifted, to boot. @Voidus Also, I for one doubt the idea that Pushes/Pulls are applied all and only to centers of gravity as points. Any point force is approaching infinite, so there has to be at least some distribution of the force over the object.

Okay then, thought experiment: What happens if you get a ping-pong ball and place it directly above a nice big air jet? It's suspended. What if you make it so that, rather than the air jet pointing directly upwards, it's pointing off at a bit of an angle? The ball rather quickly gets shot off and falls. What, though, if you get a second air jet at a similar (if reversed) angle , such that the two jets intersect in the air? If you do it right, the ball should be suspended between them. This keeps on working as you make the angles more and more sharp until the point where the jets are shooting parallel to the ground, at which point gravity generally wins—though there's a tad of air friction in this case, so probably a bit less than parallel, I think; still, the point stands. P.S. And of course distances and amounts of force and all all create delightful complexities for this (a pair of actual jet engines would need quite a bit of distance between them for a "shallow" suspension, for instance). But an object being suspended against gravity by two forces that don't provoke much friction is quite thoroughly "a thing" that can and does happen. --- This isn't a two-force (Push v. Push) problem. It's a three-force problem, so we're allowed to direct some Push energy upwards to counteract gravity.
-
No one's arguing that it isn't highly improbable for the coin to be suspended in that way, I don't think. Simply that it is possible, just about as possible as it being perfectly between the two. And I believe you're misunderstanding the scenario Voidus proposes, squirrel. It's not that both are Pushing the coin twice, but instead that the coin is simply slightly higher than their centers of gravity. If you imagine a straight line connecting Vin and Kelsier, the coin would just be a smidgen above it, enough that both of their Pushes are impelling the coin upward at a slight angle, rather than parallel to the ground. EDIT: NINJAAAAA!

Welcome to the forums. What exactly are you looking for for the panels? We'll probably need to start indoctrinating educating you now if you want to cover any in-depth Realmatics...

I'd pick out "SAFEABS" and "PARSHENDI NINJAS" as my favorite parts. I seriously grinned like an idiot for a few minutes after reading the first.

Well our group did try and take on TLR that one time... (it didn't end well ). There's a guy on the Crafty boards telling his tale of seafaring piratical adventure (featuring, among other things, mer-kandra), Kadrok has a pretty cool "Citadel" setting that could be fun...

Musket and Magecraft Fantsay-Help Wanted
Kurkistan replied to Heir of the Void's topic in Creator's Corner
Well (and once again I'm not a guru, so perhaps I'd be best to just stay quiet and wait, but...) it's my understanding that black powder, aside from being low-energy, is actually quite messy, and fouls just about everything something fierce. Sure you can manufacture some pump-action or bolt-action stuff (or even automatic if you're feeling daring), but it's going to start jamming a handful of shots later. -
Musket and Magecraft Fantsay-Help Wanted
Kurkistan replied to Heir of the Void's topic in Creator's Corner
I haven't read them myself, but so far as I know the Emberverse gets away with a "not arbitrary or downright contradictory" implementation of anti-technology by making it so that "high-energy-density" technology doesn't work. So the electricity flowing through your body is fine, but anything that releases/uses more than X/second units of energy isn't going to work. Like an internal combustion engine or an explosion, say. You could possibly finagle that and raise the limit a tad so that low-energy (read: iffy-quality black powder) explosions just barely sneak under the limit. Also, in my (not very knowledgeable) opinion, if you can mass-produce muskets you can mass-produce rifles (especially with modern knowledge of forging and production techniques), and there's no reason not to use a Minie ball if you know the trick to make it. -

Yeah, we have a WoB on that. EDIT: Oops, misread your question. That WoB is about Lifeless. Given that WoB, though, I'd hazard a pretty definite "yes", myself.
