  1. Coppermind.17thshard.com should be the domain it automatically redirects to now. So no matter if you start at coppermind.17thshard.com or coppermind.net it all goes to the same place. And performance of the wiki on this host is looking pretty nice, so hopefully, this will be fairly permanent. If you get any errors please, please post them in this forum.
  2. Set cookies as enabled (any malevolent cookie, really, will be picked up by spam/adaware programs). Does it still not work if cookies are enabled? Also, what browser/OS you using?
  3. Yuppers, we are waiting for DNS to propagate and get it on coppermind.17thshard.com, and hopefully it will work in the next day or so. (DNS servers just take a little while to spread changes)

    Burning Spikes

Sure, but at the same time, that's how we get what we know about cosmere stuff. It's the best we have. Probably not.
  5. I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say here. Could you elaborate? Why do you think there are four oathgates? I'm just very confused and want to understand what you are getting at.
  6. This is a fine question. It comes down to, "what is the focus on Roshar"? Metal is the focus on Scadrial, shapes are the focus on Sel, the Commands on Nalthis. But Roshar? It's hard to tell. There's a lot of questions there. I've wondered the same thing. No one has really figured it out. We've blabbed for nine pages on the Focuses On Roshar thread and haven't made much progress. I think let's close this topic and continue the discussion on the Focuses On Roshar thread, if you don't mind
  7. I strongly believe this is possible. After all, burning a metal creates an Investiture. If you were an Allomancer and a nicrosil Ferring, I see no reason why you couldn't store such an Investiture. I also believe this is how the Lord Ruler gets his enhanced brass Allomancy. He stores that Allomantic Soothing Investiture into a nicrosilmind, and then he compounds the nicrosil. So then he gets a massive burst of the Investiture he already stored, and in effect gets a huge burst of power. Since Brandon said that the Lord Ruler's Soothing was something Elend could only do while using duralumin, I'd assume that in practice doing nicrosil Compounding on an Allomantic Investiture would be like duralumin without the costs of it. Seems like the most likely solution to me.

    Burning Spikes

I have a few direct answers for you. So. Basically: 1. If you burn a spike that is currently granting you a power (like an Inquisitor), it's excruciating and you go unconscious. 2. If you burned a spike, you don't get a boost of Allomancy or Feruchemy, because to access that extra power, the spike would need to have fragments of your own soul in it. Not logistically practical So you don't get enormous bursts of power. 3. Otherwise, the only other effect to burning a Hemalurgic spike would be that spiritual DNA begins to get spliced, and we don't really know what that'd do. But, I'd imagine that it would lead to personalities fusing together (or something along those lines) rather than a burst of power.
  9. Yeah I pay 50$ for 15Mbps. This is all totally and completely awesome. And Montana will never ever get it.
  10. I'm moving this topic to Stormlight Archive, since Other Stuff is for short stories and such.
  11. Hmmm, interesting. I believe you are right, that Brandon has never come out and said if there's actually a Shard on that world. However, with the "ten core Shardworlds" thing, even including the Silence Divine planet, we don't hit ten planets. So it seems to me that there would be some serious Shardic influence. I'm betting on a single Shard, personally. Like Warbreaker. That said, it is entirely possible that since its planet is in the same solar system as Roshar, that the Shardic influence is from a Roshar Shard we've already seen.
  12. Well, it's been theorized that Elhokar has similar Soulcasting abilities as Shallan, so that means those figures are spren. But, we know that spren are either of Honor, Cultivation, or a combination. I strongly doubt that such spren are on Scadrial, since there's no evidence to say that Honor or Cultivation have been there. So, while you did almost have me there--it is an awesome quote--I do think Alendi is referring to the mist spirit. Perhaps the mist spirit assumed different forms to get Alendi's attention. It wouldn't have been hard for Alendi to misinterpret. He thought the mists were evil, as the Deepness. In that context, I'd be freaked out by mist spirits.
  13. It isn't clear. All we know is that in Imperial Scadrial life could only survive near the poles, due to the proximity to the sun. I'd assume that Scadrial has a bunch of continents, as would any other planet--it's just that the sun roasts them. It's not all oceans after all; further east on the Final Empire map, there's continent, and that region is called the Burnlands. Presumably, there are more than two continents as well. I've noticed that as well, and it's bothering me that aluminum is different and steals an Allomantic attribute. However, it states aluminum's Hemalurgic ability in the Hero of Ages Ars Arcanum. So I guess that symmetry isn't always right in Hemalurgy. Atium, though, is a "mistake" in that it was a mistake the Steel Ministry made in-world. An atium spike, given proper placement, can steal any Hemalurgic property. It's a wildcard. The Ministry made very expensive experiments with atium and determined that it steals Temporal Allomantic effects. They aren't completely right. You had me excited about the "enhance Allomancy" thing in the Treatise Metallurgic cover (which I had forgotten about). However, I'm sure that is just a phrasing thing. None of the "human attribute" spikes ever mention Allomancy or Feruchemy, and given when this was written with them still saying atium steals Temporal Allomancy, this must mirror the Hero of Ages Ars Arcanum. Same info. I think it just would sound weird to say "Grant a power of enhancement Allomancy." EDIT: I just checked the pdf of the Mistborn Adventure Game, and it explicitly says aluminum steals Enhancement Allomantic abilities. It is indeed just a phrasing issue. Nothing special. It's really subtle; I don't blame you at all for missing it. It's in between the time after Elend spoke with Preservation and Preservation died, but before Vin took up the mists. In that time, you have some Kelsier quotes to Spook, and it's not Ruin--it's actually Kelsier. It's pretty easy to see the difference, since the quotes are decidedly non-Ruin. I can't find a Spook viewpoint as a quote (I know they are there), but there's this Vin one. It's right after Marsh pulls out Vin's earring (hence it not being Ruin, and Kelsier--holding Preservation's power temporarily--can get through to Vin): Bolded part is my emphasis. And once you know it's Kelsier (which Brandon confirmed), you can so see Kelsier repeating the same advice that he does to Vin in the first book. Aha! There the Spook quote is. It's at the start of Chapter 64. It's Kelsier urging Spook to get the message sent, about Hemalurgy. He says "I'm proud" to Spook once. Now, I don't know if you know the reason why Kelsier took up the power. It's because a Shard's power needs a mind to control it, and once Leras died after talking to Elend, Kelsier stepped in temporarily before Vin could take the power up more fully.
  14. This is my bad. The Coppermind is down for a little bit longer due to server issues. See: I've done as many optimizations as I could, but it keeps using up most of the server CPU and has a tendency to crash the site. We don't quite yet know what to do. The data is fine, it's all still there. We're just working on a way to properly get the wiki up in a way that doesn't destroy the site. Better to save the forums and main site and turn off the wiki, for now. I completely forgot to put up the landing page again saying it is down. I accidentally deleted the file when I thought that the wiki was fixed. Turns out, not so much.
  15. @Crafty - Psh, this just makes it a collector's item I just got in my hardcover today. It's gorgeous. I might be rubbing my hands across the endsheets of the Tables of Metals like a total creeper. Maybe. You never know. I won't tell.
  16. I'm not sure, but it is definitely the song that plays after you have the conversation with Sovereign on Virmire. Which, by the way, is still one of the most badass conversations ever.
  17. Best track in Mass Effect 1. Stupid thing, it's a hidden track, not in the OST. Annoying.
  18. So about that whole "wiki" thing... yeah. Ahem.
  19. Omigosh that was so REDACTED hilarious. Especially the Hero of Ages one. I'm dying laughing.
  20. It really does, doesn't it?
  21. Hey, lookit that. Isaac Stewart on Twitter a few days ago tweeted that the Table of Feruchemical Tables is "hot off the press!" And man, I'm sure loving it. The design looks fantastic. If you didn't know, the metals all get different symbols on this table, representing more "triangles," a Terris style. Isaac reports that there will be 100 of them at Comic-Con, and 200 to be sold near the end of July or the beginning of August. Too bad that it doesn't look like we will find out lerasium's Feruchemical power--it seems that the "God Metal" entry doesn't say anything specific.
  22. News alert, lyssie is a bulldozer!
  23. I'm pretty sure isotope can't be used to describe words Eh. In any case, change it to "raining" and it's still hilarious.
  24. A book I will write soon.
  25. Congratulations Zucchini for writing the most offensive thing I've seen on 17th Shard. Really? You honestly believe your passive aggressive, sarcastic post was not at all meant to hurt someone. Why, there's no way you can be rude without profanity. I'm going to tell like it is: that was extremely rude, and inappropriate. If you didn't think Leon's post added to the discussion, you don't have to be a jerk about it. There's a perfectly good method of doing that, via downvotes. Downvotes don't cause flaming. If you honestly thought that being sarcastic and rude was the best course of action, that lacks some very serious common sense. You could have simply said "Care to expand on that?" Let's analyze the difference between Leon's and your post: Hey, look at which one actually refers to the topic at hand, and which one personally attacks someone. Hint: yours is the one that's far more off topic, not to mention incredibly offensive. 17th Shard is about intelligent discourse with intelligent people. Trolls or people making personal attacks is not acceptable in any way, shape or form. Just because it is "the internet" doesn't make it okay. You treat people with kindness, and that's all there is to it. If you can't do that you don't belong on this forum. But no, you're right. Obviously the proper way to "grow up" is to attack other people. Silly me. This is your warning. I don't want to see you attack someone like that ever again. It should be pretty clear that what you did was attacking, not joking.
