The Lost Metal Blurb & Release Date

It has been a long wait for The Lost Metal, the fourth and final book in the Wax & Wayne Era 2 Mistborn series, but the end of that wait has a finish line at last! According to a new Tor.com article, The Lost Metal will be published on November 15, 2022. We haven't heard official confirmation yet, but it's safe to assume that this release will likely be accompanied with "Dragonsteel Mini-Con 2."

If no one steps forward to be the hero Scadrial needs, the planet and its millions of people will come to a sudden and calamitous ruin…

That's still quite a ways off of course, with nearly a full year left to wait! Fortunately, the article also gave us a juicy book blurb that should help tide us over for a time. You can find the full details below, but first a spoiler warning! This blurb doesn't play around, getting straight to the point of the premise for Wax & Wayne book 4. It contains spoilers for the previous Mistborn Era 2 books AND the opening of Lost Metal. If you typically prefer to avoid prerelease content, you may wish to avoid this summary for the time being.

For years, frontier lawman turned big-city senator Waxillium Ladrian has hunted the shadowy organization the Set—with his late uncle and his sister among their leaders—since they started kidnapping people with the power of Allomancy in their bloodlines. When Detective Marasi Colms and her partner Wayne find stockpiled weapons bound for the Outer City of Bilming, this opens a new lead. Conflict between Elendel and the Outer Cities only favors the Set, and their tendrils now reach to the Elendel Senate—whose corruption Wax and Steris have sought to expose—and Bilming is even more entangled.

After Wax discovers a new type of explosive that can unleash unprecedented destruction and realizes that the Set must already have it, an immortal kandra serving Scadrial’s god reveals that Harmony’s power is blocked in Bilming. That means the city has fallen under the influence of another god: Trell, worshipped by the Set. And Trell isn’t the only factor at play from the larger Cosmere—Marasi is recruited by offworlders with strange abilities who claim their goal is to protect Scadrial…at any cost.

Harmony’s vision of future possibilities comes to an abrupt halt tomorrow night, with only blackness after that. It’s a race against time, and Wax must choose whether to set aside his rocky relationship with God and once again become the Sword that Harmony has groomed him to be. If no one steps forward to be the hero Scadrial needs, the planet and its millions of people will come to a sudden and calamitous ruin.

Era 2 is probably my least favorite cosmere series, but man did I just get so much more excited

If it isn't the start of the Ghostbloods, I'll be disappointed.

If I'm not mistaken, W&W takes place between Stormlight Eras 1 and 2 and since the Ghostbloods are already around in Stormlight Era 1...

Sorry to be a bubble-burster :(

I feel like that would be too easy. I'm hoping for something fresh. Taldain or Nalthis interecting with Scadrial is where my hopes are.

Way back in Secret History, the Eyree had a fortress in the hinterlands of Scadrial's Cognitive realm, so that makes them equally likely to be the offworlders in my mind. Though "protect at all costs" is not really the vibe they project. Unless they somehow have gained information that Bavadin was involved somehow with what Rayse did to Aona and Skai; that could lead them to oppose anything she's up to anywhere in the Cosmere, at all costs.

"A sudden and calamitous ruin?"

Ruin?

RUIN?

Is something intending to try to winnow Harmony back into Preservation and Ruin?
