Mistborn: Birthright

Hey Guys,

So, a website popped up the other day, and it's one that you're all going to want to see! http://mistborngame.com/ came to my attention, and they've already got a Facebook Page, and a twitter account. As previously mentioned, it's going to be cross platform on at least the PS3 and XBOX 360 (Might just be me, but I'm really hoping for a PC release), and is being produced by Game Machine Studios and Little Orbit.

More info will be added as it's made available!

Update:

The game will be an RPG set hundreds of years in the past, at about 700 BHA (Before the Hero of Ages). It will star Fendin "Fiddle" Fathvell, " an arrogant young man who must learn the art of Allomancy as quickly as possible to engage and beat the evil forces trying to destroy his family." The last name was actually created by the Mistborn: Inquisition RPG we have on the site.

“I’m a huge fan of the series, and I cannot wait to get this into the hands of gamers,” said Matthew Scott, CEO of Little Orbit. “Between the distinctive magic system, the story twists Brandon has planned for the game, and the rich depth of character skills, we’re creating something very unique for players to enjoy.” Also in the works is a motion picture.

PS- I dare anyone to say that name 3 times fast. ;)

EDIT 3/24/12- News from Brandon:

I'm going to write the dialogue and have a lot to do with the story. That's the only part I can really guarantee, but these guys are pretty awesome.

Also, I've seen early gameplay demos of Pushing and Pulling with Allomancy. It gave me chills.

EDIT- 3/27/2012

Little steps. I've pitched an open-world, Skyrim-like RPG (set in a new world I designed) to game developers before, but I don't have the video game experience to persuade them. These guys are solid. The games they've done before were to stabilize the company, but guys on the Mistborn team worked on Fallout (the original ones) and others worked on Baldur's Gate.

Our goal is a third-person action RPG like Demons' Souls or The Force Unleashed with a heavier storytelling focus and a good system for Allomantic powers. If I can get the city to be somewhat open-world, like Infamous, I'd like to go that way--that may or may not be viable. We don't know for sure at this point.

I'm hoping for Assassin's Creed style myself.

Except with an interface designed for the PC.

They can do a lot with this... I do hope its not liner, i would love prowling Luthidel in the night, raiding keeps to keep a solid atium supply, ect.

Hopefully they wont mess up the more "fancy" aspects of being mistborn, like steel/iron. Im trying not to get my hopes up... but only time will tell i guess.

I posted this in the comments section of the article, but people may have skimmed over it, because it was a part of my three comments in a row as I found more information. Here's a quote from their Facebook page.

Hi Nathan. Actually Mistborn: Birthright will be coming out on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Mac.

The website also has the PC symbol now along the bottom! Is there any reason I should consider getting it for PC rather then Xbox 360? A lot of people seem really excited about a PC release and I was just wondering what the benefits are.

Many people do not possess consoles. Also, some types of gameplay are much improved by a mouse, but I don't expect that matters in this case.

Looks like it will be for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac. Everybody but the Linux users are happy.

And the poor Amish. Nobody ever builds Quilt OS support into their games.

I don't know, man. Have you ever played "Barnraiser"? That game is awesome.

Also, I'm psyched about this game. All my friends are gamers and I've been trying to introduce them to Brandon Sanderson with little headway. It's weird, though. I'm used to Game > Book. Book > Game will take some getting used to.

Honestly, I've never heard of a video game adaption that didn't kinda suck... of course, that's when they tried to adapt the story straight across. Games that take place in-universe with their own stories tend to suck less (The Force Unleashed, Star Trek: Legacy).

I guess it remains to be seen. Maybe we ought to ask Cultivation. I here she's real good at this prediction sort o' stuff.

This game sounds awesome. I am definitely going to buy it. I do hope you can explore on your own in this game though.

There are some exceptions though. The LEGO franchise comes to mind. Those are pretty good.

No love for Nintendo, despite their new console coming out this year. :(

... What?

The game is not advertised as being available on a Nintendo console. The newest Nintendo console, the Wii U, is set to come out this November.

how would they, a 'new' and 'undiscovered' creators, get ahold of a Wii U devkit. If they're developing a 'serious' game, why would they even think about Nintendo? and how would a serious Mistborn game even work on a Wii-style console? If they've developed it to use motion control then the controls are either gimiky, or risk making multiplatform unbalanced due to the differences in interfacing, or they've spent 90% of their time trying to make a balanced motion control system rather than a good game (which I doubt, since Brandon seems to like them).

And I concur, the LEGO franchise seem to be pretty good

I agree with you that they shouldn't try to force in motion controls, and I was not advocating the inclusion of a Nintendo console for MBR. I was simply trying to alleviate Sweetness's confusion.
