Riva smiled evilly. "Oh, yes. Very much so." With that, she threw a small orb on the ground.

The Raveness did not spend much time in public; after all, her death was a dream to many a man because of her nasty reputation. Thus she made sure that when she was in public, she had more than a few tricks up her sleeve. The orb was one such trick. When shattered, it quickly released thick smoke, obscuring her. She was no witch, as many claimed she was, but stunts like this certainly did a good job of fueling those rumors. While the foolish, disoriented guard stumbled, Riva gracefully stepped behind him, unsheathing a small poison-coated dagger hidden on her garter and swiping at the man's neck. The incision she made was a small one, but the heavily concentrated poison made all the difference. When the smoke cleared, the man was screaming and writing on the floor, a smug-looking Raveness standing over him. "Anyone else?" she boomed. In the now-silent hall, her slightly-raspy voice was like a thunderclap.

Even Nicolae stirred, sitting up suddenly. "Mm, what, yer Majesty?"

"Shh - it's the Ravenness. She just did something."

"Aww, the Raven now?" He whimpered. "No, no, I doesn't wanna go to the Raveness miss." Nicolae teared up and trembled.

"Just be quiet and you won't have to. Shh!"

Nicolae's ears picked up the screaming. "Oh, dear gods, help me." He covered his face with his hands and started praying, begging forgiveness for each individual sin from every god he could think of. "I promised I'd be good, I did, yet I still end up like this. Oh..." He sniffled.

"Sir Kimby... just calm down. If she comes over here, I'll stop it. Or something."

"Sir Kimby, now probably isn't the best time to realise that or say it..."

"I'm dirt, that's all I ever been." He wiped his eyes but didn't let go of her. In fact, he seemed to cling to her for dear life.

"I'm not sure what to say... But you probably shouldn't be hugging me..."

"Oh!" he released her quickly. "I sorry, I sorry, miss. I'm not worthy o' touching you, no." He sniffed and wiped his nose, crying.

"No, it's just that I'm betrothed to the king." Alienor handed Sir Kimby her handkerchief.

He blew into it and nodded. "You shouldn't be so nice to me, miss... I'm... I'm... oh stars above."

Caden growled in displeasure, "you're not being as helpful as I had hoped, girl. Had I known you would have so little information, I would have killed you both. But now I have hostages, so I can thank you for that." He got up and turned around to the dungeon guards, "prepare them for transfer, captain."

The man nodded, "what's the destination, sir?"

"None of your concern, just have them ready when I come for them!" He gestured to his personal guards, "I go to report to the King, double the guardsmen down here so that none escape."

The captain saluted as Caden began to leave the room.

[Channelknight Fadran]

Wendy let out a breath, then looked back down at Arabella. Her glare melted back into a soft, loving smile as she brushed some of the child’s hair out of her face.

”Have sweet dreams, child,” she whispered, scooching back to lean against the wall. “I’ll take care of you. Don’t worry.”

From then, Wendy hummed quietly to herself until she, too, fell asleep.
