Upon seeing her, Wendy immediately shrieked and pulled Arabella into a massive bear hug.

Caden waited for only a moment before gesturing with his fingers for his guardsmen to separate the two. "Are you satisfied, rebel?"

Arabella broke into a massive grin and hugged Wendy back. When they were pulled apart, she looked at Wendy like what the heck is happening, why are you here?

"Are you okay? What've they done to you? Did they hurt you?"

Arabella glanced at Caden. "Not... much."

Wendy almost shouted back, but met Arabella's eyes and forced herself to calm down. She couldn't risk letting them hurt her.

"Alright. Let her go and I'll talk."

Caden's face twisted into a malevolent smirk, "oh, that's not how this works. I will keep her with me until you've served your purpose, only then will she go free."

"I don't believe you."

"Such a smart rebel," Caden chuckled, but it sounded as if he were performing an action that he had practiced over and over again to force it to sound natural. "If you won't take my word, then what about an oath from the King?"

"An oath from the king? King Ivian the first? That king?"

Caden growled in annoyance, "perhaps not as smart as I thought. Who else, girl?!"

"N-nothing. That'll work, yeah."

"Good," Caden gestured to his bodyguards, who moved to take hold of Arabella. "Then you have an oath, the child will be safe, and you'll be working for me."

"If you want to guarantee her safety, you'll do what you're told, girl." Caden stepped forward while in his typical slouching posture, "and we will start with questions."

"Hang on. I don't know if the king actually swore this or not."

Caden growled, "what do you suggest, I allow a rebel like you anywhere close to the King?!"

"What do you think I could possibly do to him? You've already searched me. Twice. And he'll probably be surrounded by guards armed to the teeth."

Caden leaned in close, glaring directly into Wendy's eyes. "You tell me, traitor! You've already tried to have him assassinated once tonight, trying to make sure that the job gets done?!"

"What? I haven't tried to assassinate him! I told you, I only came in to get her back."

Caden only growled, "would a document stamped with the King's signet satisfy you?"

"Sure."

Caden growled through his teeth before turning away. "Then you may have that, and only that." He stepped back and spun enough to cause his cape to flair before speaking to one of the dungeon guardsmen. "I will leave two of my personal guard here, while one of you comes with me to the King. This should be over quickly."
