Caden felt a sense of unfulfillment over his inaction, but he nodded. "Very well. Do you wish to accompany me, or shall I face m-" He cleared his throat, "our room with you?"

Riva brightened. "You mean you'll share with me?"

Caden rolled his eyes as he turned to the door, "it seems that I must."

She smiled and scurried toward him, taking his muscular arm to go with him. "Oh, that's wonderful. ... thank you."

Caden sighed, but didn't feel the immediate need to peel the Raveness of of his arm. He disliked how readily she had pushed herself into a scenario that he was unfamiliar with, but the longer she stayed, the better he felt with her by his side. He tried to not allow those feelings to show on his face, "let's get this done with."

"I... I hope you'll like the decorations. I realize they're not very... uh... manly. But, well, I like them." She smiled at him again, butterflies in her stomach.

"Why do I get the feeling that taking them down would be more work than it's worth?" Caden asked as he raised an eyebrow, glancing towards Riva.

"Perhaps because Daku spent so much time putting it all up?" She shrugged. "I do think it's really quite comfortable with all the decorations, but I realize it's been your room for so long now, it will be odd for you."

"If you've turned it into one of those 'pretty noblewoman rooms,' then I'll have issues." Caden shuddered, "I have no wish to ever go near that portion of a castle again."

She scoffed. “Ive never been in a noblewoman’s keep, so I wouldn’t know what it looks like enough to copy it. Keep in mind, I am not your common noble girl. I am the torturess, immortal and all powerful. And I can decorate better than a noble wench.”

[The Ward's Guard he/him]

"Good," Caden nodded, "it would be worth the effort to tear down the decor if it were like that of a noblewoman's keep." He felt himself drawing his arm closer to him with each step, and Riva along with it.

Riva, noticing him pulling her in, leaned into him just slightly. It was surprisingly good to be so close to someone. “I’m sorry I drugged your tea,” she said. “I promise I won’t do it again. You didn’t deserve that.”

"I hated it," Caden said, nodding. "Just as I hated it when you took my room in the first place."

She sighed and, with a small smile, ruffled his greying hair. "You don't have to rub it in. I said I was sorry."

When he finally realized, he took several steps back.

"With all due respect, sir, it's kinda..." a guard gestured to his goop-covered tunic. "It kinda exploded? I'm pretty sure it's touched everyone."

"Then come quickly, if you can leave anything that touched it behind, and come with me to the Church, we will come by later to clean the rest of this."

All the guards exchanged glances, then shrugged and started tearing their uniforms off.

[Frustration]

Brother Tomad lead everyone to the church and cancelled everything to have the acolytes blessing water, and preparing salts.

The People touched where cleaned, and every trace of goo was collected in a pot made from silver-iron alloy.

Later the room was cleaned as well with everything likewise collected, and the room cleaned with blessed rose-water.

All sludge was placed in the pot which was then sealed and placed in an unmarked grave on blessed ground.

It wasn't until several hours later that Brother Tomad could finally speak with the King.

 

"That man's soul was taken by Mal, and his Witherlord, and now that it has been taken care of, I need to inform you that the Archbishop will be arriving within two weeks time."

"Is there a scientific reason why that happened?" Ivian asked. "Anything the Raveness might've fed him a few days back, perhaps? Because claiming that the devil himself blew up a maddened prisoner isn't exaclty logical."

"Isn't exactly logical?! Ask the Raveness herself Ivian, she will inform you no potion known to men does that. And if it is some unknown potion why does the Church have dedicated procedures for dealing with such a situation?" Brother Tomad countered.

"Why do we know specific potions for making that sludge conglomerate, so it is easier to remove? Why do we have specific prayers for protection against it? Why do we have all of this, if it is mearly a potion?"
