Eri she/her Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 So we know that Hoid had been a Dawnshard, probably related to survival/protection/peace/life/something like that. We also know that one of his names is Topaz, because of an ancient gem he once wore (but doesn't now). And, assuming that Rosharan symbolic has anything to do with Cosmere as whole, topaz means something related to Taln, dependable-ness and similar. It's a long shot, but what it that topaz was (or was a name for) the Dawnshard? 1
Elegy he/him Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 There's also this quote from Oathbringer, Chapter 68, when he and Shallan have a talk: Quote "When I was young . . ." he said. "Yes?" "I made a vow." Shallan nodded, wide-eyed. "I said I'd always be there when I was needed." "And have you been?" "Yes." She breathed out. "It turns out I should have been more specific, as 'there' is technically anywhere." "It . . . what?" "To be honest, 'there' has -- so far -- been a random location that is of absolutely no use to anyone." This is the Stoneward's line in the Knights Radiant Quiz: Given that Taln is the Stoneward Herald, there just has to be something there. Even if it's just a thematic connection. 6
LewsTherinTelescope Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Relevant WoB: Quote luiz_m2 Is the fact that Hoid has been a Dawnshard related in some way with the "bearer of the first gem" title? Brandon Sanderson Yes indeed. Dawnshard Annotations Reddit Q&A (Nov. 9, 2020) "related in some way" is pretty vague wording, however. 1
Eri she/her Posted January 8, 2021 Author Posted January 8, 2021 I just noticed something in the epigraphs: Quote Have you given up on the gemstone, now that it is dead? (tWoK ch. 60) That's interesting in the context of this thread and the above WoB.

I think this is the answer for the one different from the rest. A dead dawnshard, held by Hoid https://coppermind.net/wiki/First_Gem this whole coppermind entry seems to support it, paired with that quote. themst the theory. I bet others have came to the same conclusion, but this is the deal. 1
Honorless he/him Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Good eye @Elegy! I was rather disappointed that I couldn't find anything with the polestone to connect to Hoid
