Giving a swift nod, Ni lifted himself off the ground with a muffled grunt. Remaining low to the ground, the small boy began sneaking towards the kitchen’s exit. His steps were light and nimble even with the bulky snowboots, and the wooden floor beneath his feet hardly made a sound as Ni carefully crept forward towards the source of the sudden noise.

Pausing just inside the doorway, Ni peeked his covered head around the doorframe with an air of caution. Down to his left, where the spiral staircase descended toward the ground level of the tower, a shout of anger echoed up the stairs; one that was most likely from the same person, or thing, as earlier.

Glancing back at Cara, Ni pointed down the tower’s steps before placing a finger to his lips. Then, turning back towards the staircase, Ni took a deep breath before slowly beginning his descent down the stairway.

Cara followed Ni, trying to be as quiet as him. Soon they reached the room where all the noise was coming from. Cara carefully peeked her head in and saw Orpheus.

Might be able to scare him. Cara thought. That would be funny

Ducking back out of sight, Cara pointed to the room then put one finger over her lips in a shushing motion. She then made a scary face. Hoping that Ni would get the message, she began to creep into the room.

Jumping out from behind the doorway, Ni made the spooky gesture that Cara had shown him towards the person standing in the room. There was a strange… muffle… that came from Ni, but nothing else as he simply stood there, frozen in a pose that resonated as much terror as a small boy could achieve.

Ni finished his pose then glanced over at Cara, giving her a thumbs up. He then spun back towards the tattered room, waving at the person standing in the middle of it before cautiously walking through the broken and smashed objects that lay scattered across the floor.

Avren remained unmoving, his face expressionless. 

Suddenly, the book on plant care slipped from his pack and hit the ground with a loud thud.

Avren blinked, then turned to face the direction of the noise. Wordlessly, he picked the book up from where it lay, checking to make sure it wasn’t damaged, and returned it to his pack.

Talnic furrowed his brow. "Well... If I ignore a prophecy, there tends to be some sort of negative effect that impacts me and others who are involved. Might that help you figure out what's going on?"

"This sounds like the probable effect of some separate entity. It probably means you are either closely connected to one or you are the chosen champion of one. What god do you worship?"

As soon as Cara finished her words, Orpheus felt something stir in his mind. Something wasn't right, but he couldn't place what.

Trying not show how much his coldness towards her hurt, Cara said, "Well, Ni and I were just investigating the loud noise. Now that we know what it is we'll be on our way. Come on, Ni."

Cara started heading back towards the door.

"Oh, you want to know about that. Well, Minuet and Ara are leaving me— I mean— our group forever." Cara said bitterly, eyes starting to well with tears at the thought.
