Corundum nodded and popped out of existence.

Q huffed, then fell to her knees. Her knives clattered on the floor in the dark blood, Thyella slipping from her grasp and dissipating into smoke, the little wisps curling in the air. She tried to wipe off the blood, but there always seemed to be more. Instead, Q grasped her head again as another headache came.

“I’m fine I’m fine I’m fine,” she kept repeating to herself as the revenant’s blood soaked through her pants. “Everything’s alright.”

Is it okay that I have a new kind of undead enemy? they look like revenants but are far more intelligent.

There were already higher tier revenants- the kind that attacked Q, with milky white eyes. Thanks for the name. :P

your welcome.

Ronin walked over to the dead Draugr and took his knives back, putting them back in his belt. He went over to Toran who threw the last Draugr far away.

Ronin sheathed his sword and said, "good job, what do you think of calling them the Draugr?"

Toran turned, "I think it is a fitting name." Toran swelled down into his former size.

Ronin lifted Toran and pocketed him. "so, where to next?" asked Ronin as they walked along the road.

"Hm." said Toran, "I think we should go towards Mjionor Keep."

ONE TIME SKIP LATER
Ronin walked along the long and winding road, it had been six hours since the battle with the Draugr, he had covered his wounds with bandages and had eaten five strips of jerky. Toran had chatted his ear off about different kinds of wood so much that Ronin was simply ignoring him for now when suddenly darkness swam over his vision and he saw a small glowing black figure above him, it had red eyes and an evil sound. It started chasing him and Ronin ran, it was pure fear for what seemed like hours beyond count until-

"RONIN!" shouted Toran loudly. Ronin jerked and shook his head from his daze of not-thought.

Ronin found himself running away from a surprised peasant man on a horse. Ronin stopped in the dust and realized a large city sat before him two or three miles away from him, "sorry Toran, I, I," Ronin considered telling Toran what he saw but something stopped him, "nothing, just tired from the fight with the Draugr."

So is Ellis just trapped in a plane of white, or did he wake up?

He was trapped in a plane of white for a few minutes, and then he woke up. So Ellis and Q should be back in sync chronologically.

Jolting awake, Ellis felt... drained. Weak. Almost normal.

And then he saw Yulong covered in blood.

"Q!"

Ronin walked towards the city gate and put his hood up, he had found a discarded cloak along the road. He kept his hand at the pommel of his sword at all times as he approached the squad of guards at the gate.

A line of people streamed up towards it, luckily Ronin had learned fast how to slip through crowds. When the guards saw him one approached him and asked, "Business here?"

Ronin then said in a husky version of his voice with a slight accent, "I hav' buisness withe eh' my brother, get that? eh'?"

The guard shook his head and leaned closer, "name? and that of your brother's?"

"I am, eh', Vizzini La' Spaccini. My brother is a certain Ferunetti Spaccini, got that eh'?" said Ronin, the guard couldn't see he was grinning.

the guard rolled their eyes and said, "sure, sure, Ferunetti is in the city, you may come inside."

Once Ronin was safely passed the gates Toran said, "That was a little over the top Ronin."

"I know, but that is how Sicilians act any ways." said Ronin as he turned down an alleyway.

And then he saw Yulong covered in blood.

"Q!"

“It’s fine,” she said as she clutched her head tighter, not seeming to hear Ellis. “It’s all fine.”

More bodies appeared in her view. One by one, they materialized and crowded the cave. Their blood added to the real bodies, the black mixing well with the crimson. All of their lifeless eyes stared into her, seeing her for what she was; seeing through the lies she told. They seemed to know who she was, even if they’d figured it out on the brink of death.

But she shouldn’t be having these sorts of problems. She should’ve been over them by now. It wasn’t like she needed anyone to help her through this, because she would only weigh them down. She would only bother them. They didn’t need her. They never wanted her. They…

“Everything’s fine,” Yulong muttered, hitting her head softly with a closed fist. “Nothing’s wrong.”

The contact made her twitch and initially shy away from him, till she looked at who touched her. She didn’t relax, but she stopped mumbling.

“I…” she tried, but couldn’t get any other words out.

Her hand shook, but she laced her fingers through his. Her unfocused gaze found its way to Ellis, wandering over the bodies for a moment.

“I… I failed,” she whispered, turning back to the bodies.

Posted

“I failed,” she whispered again, freezing slightly at the hug. “I can’t do it. I can’t be who he wants me to be. I can’t do what he wants. I can’t be two people at once. I can’t make a decision. I’m not the person people need me to be. I’m not… I’m not worthy of love.”

Ellis' gaze flickered back in forth as confusion ran through his mind. Who was 'he?' What was she talking about?

The last part caught him off-guard.

"I... Q..." Ellis sucked in a breath. "Yulong. You're..."

The amulet. He could feel its power waxing back into his mind.

He--I looked into her eyes, peering into what she was seeing.

Bodies. Blood. She was covered in it. Melody was dead; was dead.

"You're... not okay."

Posted

“I’m fine,” she insisted, her eyes falling on bodies of people who looked similar to her, trying to believe the words she spoke. “Nothing’s wrong.”

Posted

"I don't... I don't know why you're seeing all those things." Ellis held her close. His voice was growing steadily shakier. "I don't know who you were, or what you did, or who you think you're supposed to be. But... you're..." He swallowed, then took in another shaky breath. "You--I--"

Just spit it out.

"If you don't want me to, then that's fine." Ellis let the breath out. "But I love you. And... I know it's... because you're worth loving."

Posted

She blinked, surprised at what Ellis just said.

“Am I, though?” Yulong found herself asking. She held his gaze, not even glancing at the bodies around them. “Am I really that worthy of love?”

"Even if you weren't, I wouldn't care." He brushed a bit of her hair behind her ear, completely locked in the moment. "But you are. I know you are."

Then--probably completely out of his mind--Ellis leaned forwards and kissed her.

The action surprised her, but she didn’t pull away. In fact, Yulong felt her muscles release their held tension and allow themselves to relax and finally accept the physical touch from Ellis. The blood pulled away and the bodies slowly began to fade, letting her see reality for what it actually was; what was once fuzzy was becoming clear again.

She gently pulled away from the kiss, touching his forehead with hers as she didn’t meet his eye.

“I’m sorry,” Yulong whispered, her episode glitching in and out of reality. “I shouldn’t have bothered you with this.”

No lie, when I saw the notification for you mentioning me in here, the first words that came out of my mouth were: “Honey, I’m working on it.”
