They weren't doing anything in particular. Just... standing around. She was holding hands with Cadenza and Aryanna, looking ahead into an infinite darkness.

From the darkness came a figure. Janice couldn't tell who it was, but somewhere in her mind, a surge of dread coursed through her.

In these shots, Cruz's actions were displayed to be violent, showing him and Trace attacking several individuals. Just as the footage was nearing its end, a balding man who had a monkey's tail approached the stand.

The balding man turned to the judge and bowed his head slightly before the bailiff approached him, "do you swear to this court that you'll tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?"

The balding man nodded, "I do."

The bailiff nodded and walked off as the balding man sat into the witness's stand. Edgeworth approached the man, "Mr Callenway, you are a Video Analysis Expert for our law enforcement, is that correct?"

Callenway nodded, "that is correct sir."

Edgeworth gestured to the TV, "what can you tell me about this footage."

"When it was accepted as evidence, it was damaged, although I did manage to save what few parts that you are looking at there."

Edgeworth nodded, "yes my good sir. Now, would you say that the defendant is one of the assailants in the footage?"

"Well, it's difficult to make out many details because of the damage, but being a video forensics expert, I can say that it is most likely him. In fact, when we ran our software on the footage, we managed to get an 89.9% match. Which was surprising."

Edgeworth raised an eyebrow, "how accurate is this technology My Callenway?"

"Oh, within a 99.97% accuracy typically."

"Then why would that percentage be a surprise Mr Callenway?"

Callenway scratched his head for a brief moment, "well you see, the footage was really crummy, uh, forgive my language. It's just that we got lucky with the footage we were able to recover."

Edgeworth nodded, "very well Mr Callenway. Your Honor, I have presented my first piece of evidence." Edgeworth bowed to the judge before moving to take his seat, giving his opponent a undeservingly smug look.

Just to clarify, Trace and Cruz actually never did any attacking together...

Island #1) Cruz did not do anything, it was 100% Trace.

Island #2) Trace committed acts of mass terrorism, nobles escaped, Cruz picked off the nobles and only them once they were far away.

Island #3) Trace committed acts of mass terrorism, Cruz tries to kill Lena, is unable to, gets hurt.

So any security footage would reflect any of these three.

"Help!" She screamed, pulling away from the figure. Janice glanced over at her friends, but they stood in same way they always had: their backs turned to her. "Help! Please!"

Ms. Delacroix stood slightly as her opponent ended his drivel, and at the judge's ushering, made her counterstatement.  "A man is murdered," she posed calmly, "And there are ten suspects arrested.  The officers know that there are only nine conspirators, but they physically cannot identify whom the innocent man is."  She twirled lightly, then patted the top of the screen affectionately.  "Does the justice system execute all ten in a sweeping purge?"  She turned her eyes haughtily to Mr. Edgeworth, "No.  Our law system operates on the basis of innocent until proven guilty."  She stepped lightly from the television to the center of the floor. "I believe Mr. Edgeworth clearly knows that for a guilty verdict to be reached, the jury must, without a doubt or a question wavering their determination, believe to the fullest extent possible that my client is the man displayed in this video."  She nodded respectfully at the jury, reminding them of their duty, then glided toward her seat as she spoke.  "Not even ninety percent... it isn't good enough.  The jury must be absolutely convinced.  Faulty, damaged footage..."  she tsksd her tongue and sighed.  "I would expect more than courtroom theatrics from the prosecution."

That was all his first piece of evidence was, after all, a show to go on, and they both knew it.  It was insulting, almost, that he expected that ridiculous piece of evidence to be intimidating to her, as though she were a backroom amateur.

Well, he did have more experience, and she was relatively new to the profession... but if this was his opening piece of evidence, she knew that, just like the string of victories against other prosecutors before him, he too would join the ranks of the defeated.

Cruz considers. It was him in the footage, and he knew it, but he had enough trust in Ms. Delacroix to assume that she knew what she was doing.

He wasn't allowed to speak—to do so now would just make things worse—so he allowed his thoughts to drift toward Trace, whom he saw in the footage. Trace, who was somehow separated from Janice, and who needed his help. Would Janice's old friends even want to help? He might have to do this alone, and he wasn't looking forward to that.
