Within the hour, Vespyr had deposited Janice, all tied up like a present, onto the Queen's balcony.  Vespyr's heart was pounding.  It honestly should have spent the night at the spire, but that... that would have been foolish, to waste the Queen's time in the name of self-care.  Vespyr dropped to one knee, right hand splayed on the marble flooring, left hand clasped across the chest, head bowed reverently, waiting on the Queen's acknowledgement. @Negative_Null

Janice was a mess of crying and screams. Her face had gone puffy and red, streaked with tears that somehow managed to squeeze out her tightly-closed eyelids.

I don't want to die--I'm not ready to die--Please, please, please...

Most of Vespyr was annoyed.  It had warned the child.  So had the Queen.  Both had explicitly told the girl exactly what she could expect if she insisted on resisting.  It wasn't Vespyr's fault that this was the child's fate.  It had never been a matter of choice for it.

And yet... A fragment of Vespyr pitied the brat, who stood like she was about to collapse, face as red as an infant's, as if someone had painted the cheeks with blood, snot and tears draining out every orifice.  It was... tragic.  Vespyr should not think like this or feel like this.  Vespyr should not think.  Vespyr should not feel.

Much more of a crime, Vespyr should not feel such... guilt.

Tulcam nodded, visibly pleased the the subject was being changed. "I am curious, how did you get tangled up in all of this?"

"I went to the theater and they begged me to stay," Cadenza said, tossing her ponytail.

Tulcam raised an eyebrow, "another joke? I almost think that you're trying to force me to develop a sense of humor."

Let me just overindulge a bit here :)

If either Janice or Vespyr had been in the mood to look at their surroundings, they might have been overcome. The Queen's tower was the highest structure for hundreds of miles, allowing the pair to see across those miles of corrupted vegetation and scorched, black earth. Gigantic Qhoral crystals erupted out of the ground in various places, some as tall and wide as a tree. The grass was a kaleidoscope of different colors, and waved in the wind strangely, some towards the wind and some against. Bestial Yevon prowled the wasteland, and in the far distance there were mountains so covered in crystal that they shone like a second sunset.

The castle the two were at the top of seemed to belong here, despite the fact it could also have fit into the richest and most fashionable sector of Myria. It stood, carved seemingly out of a dark red stone, eschewing normal windows for panes of faintly translucent Qhoral. The architecture was almost unique, something that would never have been seen anywhere else on Siren. Four towers sprang out of the roof, the tallest in the center of the castle itself.

And on top of that tower, the door opened at a mental command from the Queen, and she walked out to meet the two. Her presence almost acted like a magnet for Janice and Vespyr, drawing them closer to her. She wore earrings made of Umbral Qhoral, glowing their sickly grey, and wore a black gown, looking exactly as her title denoted her to be.

"Good, Siren. Untie the girl, and then you may depart."

Vespyr stood from the deep bow.  "I request clothing," Vespyr said quietly, "and if it is still your will, another mask.  Travel also greatly depleted the nectar issued to me."  Vespyr knew that to speak such a request was necessary, but knew that it couldn't count on the Queen's geniality.  It moved and untied Janice, the ribbons falling from the child.  Vespyr swayed, exhausted, then took a knee again, waiting for its Majesty's verdict.

The Queen grabbed Janice's arm and jerked her to her feet with supernatural strength. "Come inside. I will give you what you need. I'm impatient to repay this child for the inconvenience she's caused me." The Queen walks back into the tower, towing Janice with her.

Janice struggled, gasping with pained notes of breath. "LET ME GO! LET ME GO!" She screamed. "SIREN!! HELP ME!!"

Vespyr knelt to the side, respectfully waiting for the Queen's attention.  Janice would likely be the first one to be seen to, of course; the Queen had waited patiently for this day.  Vespyr tried to clear its mind.  Janice was so much like another little girl, from many years ago, screaming almost the exact same thing.  She'd had red hair, though, but she'd had the same frantic snot-nosed, vermillion features as Janice did now.  Vespyr had done nothing then, too.

Inside the tower, there were shelves and cupboards holding many different types of Qhoral. A table had been hastily set up in the center of the room, and a strange looking Yevon stood in the corner.

The Queen gestured, and the door to the stairs opened. A corrupted human, barely recognizable as such, stood behind it, and bowed shakily. "Siren, follow this servant and he will get you what you need."

Not sparing another glance for those two, she lifted Janice up and set her on the table. A Voltaic and a Seismic crystal on the shelves glowed brighter and began drifting across the room towards the Queen at a gesture.

Vespyr nodded.  "With your permission, I will return to my post from this balcony," it requested.  After all, this was probably the best location to gather the winds and shoot off back to the spire.  To rest and lay down its head here, though... Vespyr had never slept in a bed, not even when ill while being trained.  Even a cot within a cell, sheltered from the weather, would bring great peace.  It knew better than to request anything more than the base requirements to maintain its function, however.  That would be... human.

That's something you'd have to run by our good friend Null. Although if I'm being honest, I can 100 percent relate to the feeling. I really want Janice to be saved from the Queen. If only my character were in a position to do something about it.

I mean no offense to you, but this does not make me less worried. It's just a thing I have where I don't like to rely on others, especially creatures that I know very little about (referring to your character).

"It's not a joke. They actually begged me." Cadenza batted her eyelashes. "Can you blame them? I'm only the youngest Duster in the history of Myria."

"Nothing yet. Why, one might think that you're scared or something." The Queen smiled, then crooked her finger. The Qhoral began shaping itself into long bands. The Queen shoved Janice down on the table, and the Qhoral wrapped itself around her wrists and ankles, then latched itself to the table.

"First, let's get little Trace out of your head. She has her own punishment to look forward to."

"Then explain to me how on earth a theater fits into all of this."

"I've never been to Myria, but I would think that I'd know if they had gladiatorial combat." Tulcam paused, "do they?"
