"Tomorrow's gonna be hell"

Lol frrrr

any (helpful) tips to help out a procrastinator? (pls pls pls don't suggest a planner i tried it on like two separate occasions and it only helps when im super behind or super stressed. when im normal stressed, idk. maybe ill try it again. but like actually helpful tips on how to not save literally everything for the day it's due. or the day before. Also i somehow am literally never late, and always get things done on time, despite massive procrastination.)

also why is ur day gonna be a living hell tmrw?

No, I don't appreciate planners. Honestly the best thing I can suggest that helps me is just keeping a running list and whenever you don't have anything to do just pick a random thing off the list and do it.

Aand because I'm working a booth at anime con tomorrow, which means I have to socialize

Reward system. -every success gets a treat, mental, physical, you pick

Batch it. -Don't do it a little everyday, just sit down and pick a day-or just a time, like the morning- then batch it. This doesn't work for everyone but it works for me.

Music. -classical is better for me bc other wise I get distracted but if its quiet thats ok. But you do what works for your brain.

And a list, but with small items not large ones, bc whenever you check one of its a minor dompamine hit. So if it was like "Write the essay" That sounds overwhelming but if it was "Write the opening paragraph" Thats slightly better. They can be as small as you need them too.

Like...instead of writing a sentence or two ever day, I write the whole thing? Or instead of reading a few pages, I read most/all?

Ye...I was listening to J-Pop (my new fave genre) but I find I can't concentrate with word music, so I tried Lo-Fi in the past day or two and it was much better (I think). There's something about classical (or jazz) that makes me feel like crap kinda. More like it doesn't help me focus and isn't calming and isn't fun.

Yeah... the thing is that lists and stuff are too much work (well, they are in my irrational brain) and I just don't wanna do them. Maybe a written one would work better... cuz it's easier. Also one in a doc or spreadsheet or wtvr is...just differnt. clicking a checkbox (with no animations or anything dopamine-rewarding) rather than at least paper lets you cross it out with ur hands.

Yeah, so if you have an essay, instead of doing a little bit every day, you pick a time or day to do it. I'm homeschooled, so for instance I do Language Arts and Writing on Mondays, generally in the mornings, with the afternoons off for the most part minus catchup, then Math is Tuesdays while Wednesday Thursday is Science and History, while Friday is Misc.

-Yesss and for me particularly the reading thing, as I absorb much better in one sitting. I also read crazy fast so multiple sittings is kinda a waste lol

I dont do all subjects every day, I batch them so once I do it its done.

Works well for me, but if it doesn't for you, I have 0 judgment.

Good! I'm glad the music works. I don't do Jazz either. Keep with the trial and error.

I use paper and pencil for almost everything.. but if docs or a spreadsheet works better thats ok too. I find something like that on a screen distracting, and crossing something out in pencil on a list is much more satisfiying for me.

Again, the trial and error, and do what works for you. This is what works for me and everyone's brains are different.

Good luck!

Ah, so like do each thing at once rather than little chunks of a bunch of things. That sounds much better than what I do tbh... Actually, I switch between doing it ur way and the bad way (my way).

...any tips for retaining info that I read? I might do it somewhat...but I usually don't get much out when I procrastinate and end up having to skim. I also don't consider myself the fastest reader. At best I'm average. With caffeine, however, I'm faster. And when I'm tired (which is very often), ...I struggle getting through a page sometimes. Or a paragraph.

You know the *realizes she's been reading and re-reading the same sentence for the past 15 minutes*? Or *reads a few pages, then realizes she has no idea what she just read*? That's me. Not always, luckily.

I use multiple sittings as a procrastination tool. I can tell myself "oh, I read a few pages. It's been an hour or two. I'm tired. I did enough work today already. I can finish it later. I have plenty of time." etc. etc.

Ok, so...anything on the screen is a distraction. Having my phone nearby is a distraction. Thoughts are distractions. When I see a word I'm unfamiliar with, I sometimes look it up. And perhaps get carried away. If I have a random thought, I'll get sidetracked like crazy. If I have the Shard open in another tab...

Yes to satisfying (tho I'll have to test it).

I should start off by telling you all about the person I like first
They're a writer
Not story driven but idea driven
Think stories like Metamorphosis, The Stranger, all that fun stuff
Ponderings on the human condition
I... honestly disagree with a lot of their conclusions but I still think it's beautiful

They're also probably the most Lightweaver person I've ever met
They can be manipulative, lie pathologically, deflect questions constantly, and trust almost nobody while still giving the outward vibe of being completely and utterly open and extraverted
They've also been in and out of mental health facilities before for being a danger to themselves and others

Anyways they told me about a guy who's into them
He's a Saudi Arabian exchange student
Honestly that's all I know
But they seemed to be considering it
But it was also weird
I sort of... got the vibe they might have been testing me to see if I'd be put off

. . .Huh. I. . . am wary of this. Be careful.

I'm actually impressed you have pinpointed what it is, that's an amazing first step and one of the hardest.

Ah yes sorry

I meant it as a little bit of a joke but it wasn't a very good one lol. Like, "I have 5 different school projects to finish but the entire kitchen is deepcleaned"

-Side note, don't fight the ADHD, channel it. If you're struggling with reading, work on writing or art instead and come back to it later.

...I have some practice in these areas if you can't tell....

Um. Tips for retaining.. I have a minor photographic memory so less there... but if you (if you can) underline or highlight, that might help, as then as you do a similar motion the pieces might connect in you brain.

Or read it out loud, I find this helps it soak into my brain if its not clicking, and that helps the "reading the same sentence over and over again" thing

Technology is distracting as rust. Don't feel guilty for falling for it, that's how its designed, and I do it too.

If its the phone, put it in a different room.

If its thoughts.. well, if you get sidetracked, try doodling your thoughts or writing little notes in the margins, or on another piece of paper, just so that they're there and not in your head.

If its the computer, I mean, you probably need that for school... do not disturb is the best I got, unfortunately. Make sure all other tabs are closed so its not a visual distraction.

I think that's all I have. *gives more lucks*

May the odds be ever in your favor
