mini-rant

  Reveal hidden contents

so my friend came out to me today

over text

and i didn't really know what to say

so i said all the wrong things

and he left me on read

and now i feel really bad

anyways i was just wondering

what's the best thing that someone has said to you when you've come out? what's the best reaction you've gotten?

and maybe what can i say to my friend?

Oooh ok

So first. Apologize. Sorry I wasn't sure how to respond.

Second support them. That's number uno. SUPPORT THEM IN EVERYTHING THEY DO!

Just need there for them.

My experience with my mom went less then well

My experience with my friends was great considering their all lgbt too.

What????

I didn’t really come out so much as was dragged out by my friends, so I don’t have any personal experience to offer

But I would suggest starting by apologizing if necessary, and then just trying to be supportive and asking what they need

*sigh* here we go again

Ok so currently gender apathetic, though maybe agender.

But now I'm wondering maybe gender fluid. Cause somedays I'm like no no I'm a guy but other days I'm like maybe a girl but 87 percent of the time I feel more guy-y ya know?

So does that fall under any f what I mentioned or something I dunno the name of?

Hmm…

k, I did some research and that seems sort of similar to gender fluid, yes, but maybe also sort of bigender, which means you have both male and female characteristics?

Speaking of gender… time for a sort-of rant of my own.

The way I see it, gender isn’t really a definable quality; it’s a spectrum. This may be something of a controversial opinion, but I believe that gender isn’t really… real. It is definitely something, because we believe in it. But when you think about it, gender exists because of the expectations and beliefs we have about how a person from a specific sex should behave. Some transgender people physically don’t feel comfortable in their own bodies, but many of them choose to identify themselves as trans because they identify more with society’s expectations for another gender, or they don’t conform with society’s expectations, period. But if we didn’t hold expectations or judge people based off their biology… then would such people feel the need to transition?

To make a long story short, gender only exists because we communally believe in it. But in reality, nobody perfectly fits the “male” or “female” expectations. Gender is different for everyone, so you shouldn’t feel the need to conform with any label.

Of course, you may completely disagree with my view here, and I’m fine with that. But yeah, it’s just something I think about a lot.

I absolutely agree with that, and would say it really extends to all parts of life. We are so obsessed with stark, black-and-white duality in EVERYTHING, when in reality instances where something is at the very extreme of either end are very rare. It’s just so weird how we as a general world seem to feel the need to limit everything

From a philosophical standpoint, i 100% agree on this. From a technical standpoint, gender arose as grammatical gender (like how Latin words are either masculine, feminine, or neuter). But regardless, i find this a sound & reasonable assessment.

Yay! How’d it go?

So, apparently, they had already figured it out two years ago. (I only started questioning my sexuality this September btw). They were pretty supportive, but i don’t think they really know how to treat me now. But it’s not outright hostility, so i think it went well.

Right and some people DESPISE THIS SPECIFND SCSM group and tbh people hate me enough already

And if I screw up any friendships on here I might actually DIE and I don't want that to happen and I am to scared to tell anyone irl because I hear so much crap about it and people hate it but I'm driving myself insane not telling anyone so I have to but if I do people will have me and I don't want anyone to hate me because I can't have people mad at me and if their mad at me then I messed up and I could get yelled at and if I get yelled at then I'm a horrible person. But according to my mom and half my CHURCHES BELIVES I'm already a horrible person.

I just wanna live my life and be me but I cant without everyone I care about leaving me and I can't be alone. I CANT BE ALONE!!

..........

I swear I'm 67 percent ok now

You say some days you feel masculine, some days you feel feminine, and other days you feel neither. Sounds like a textbook definition of gender fluidity to me. (In that what you feel your gender is different at different times)

As for whatever it is you're talking about in the spoiler tags, I'm not about to tell you have to say it or anything, but if it's something you feel strongly about, and you really want to tell someone, it's probably a good idea. Maybe not on this thread if you don't feel comfortable about it, but maybe a PM to someone you trust?

They didn’t turn the frog gay. The frogs were always gay

Spoiler

fun fact: male frogs have been known to “mate” with the same gender due to mistaking them for women.
