It's a way to look at it, but I don't think the word should be used for anything but the sexuality. I certainly wouldn't call a straight trans person "gay". I honestly haven't really seen the word be used in the same way as I'd use "queer" anywhere but this very thread.

 

Edit: Of course, I'll always respect what someone wants to be called. If someone calls themselves gay, then call them that. If they ask not to be called gay, than don't.

We don’t really use it as a term like that. More of a big term

Where i come from if your lgbtqia+ we just call them Gays if we are just using general terms…. I think it’s regional
