Maolg bounded across the landscape eagerly as his targets came within visibility. They'd been moving plenty fast, but not faster than him- and they'd stopped to take several breaks. His bonded withergeist let out a shriek of pleasure, flapping its tattered wings to keep aloft in the air besides him. The sound rang out across the landscape and echoed in the group's ears.

"Oh, dear," said Jeffery, who recognized exactly what the call signified. "This is not good."

"What is it?" Fadran asks, summoning his Channelblade.

I turn toward the sound that shatters the silence. A second blade appeared in my empty hand. I call the winds to me. A wave of thunder rolls over the the land. Spears of lightning descend and float around me. "I grin. Fadran, let's see if you can learn some mindscaping practically."

Spin concentrated, then formed into a shardblade in Vapor's hand. "What was that?" she asked.

Mindscaping? thought Jeffery, intrigued. He'd never heard of that before, but it sounded like... well, best not to get his hopes up too much. Even so, he made a mental note to ask about it during a less chaotic time.

"A withergeist," said Jeffery. "You wouldn't happen to be familiar with them, would you? They're a type of energy spirit involved with destruction and decay. Powerful weapons in the right hands- such as, I suspect, those of our pursuer."

"Yeah. No... pressure." Fadran smiles nervously.

"Scud. I hate withergeists." Fadran prepares his Channelblade. "But we are familiar with them; killed a small army of the things, once."

Jeffery raised an appreciative eyebrow. "Wild, I presume? An impressive feat, indeed- but I'm afraid you'll find this one somewhat harder to kill."

Queen had no clue what a withergeist was, but she did know that she wasn't a very good warrior. She mildly enhanced the strength of those she knew to already be good fighters, then enhanced the speed of the rest of them, as well as the healing powers of the few healers, including herself.

"Naturally."

Fadran fell into a stance, spotting the incoming creature from the horizon. "You're not a fighter, right?" He asks Queen. "Do you think you could take Kindness north while we hold this guy off?"

Vapor felt the enhancement and looked gratefully at Queen. "Thank you."

"Your sister? Where is she?"

The Fox stopped abruptly.

Suddenly, her arm was slick with blood, causing her leather jacket to stick to her arm. It was very uncomfortable, but that was the least of her worries. It was night, and the air smelled like gasoline. A towering lamp-post shined light on a man with a gun standing over a bloodied girl with red hair, who was sprawled out on the concrete ground. The gun was smoking. The man kneeled down, and checked the girl's pulse. He smiled cruelly. Then, he looked up straight up at Little Fox, who thought she had been undiscovered. She was crouching in the shadows, tears streaming down her face. Alice was dead. "You can come out now, Little Fox." He said with a sickeningly sweet sounding voice, pointing the gun at her.

Bam. Just like that, the Fox returned the group. She knew her face was probably twisted all around in pain, so she returned it to nonchalance. "My sister's... gone." The Fox didn't know for how long she had been experiencing that episode, it took from a few seconds to a few hours for that kind of thing to pass. She saw Vapor beside her still, so she assumed that it had only been a couple seconds. The Fox began walking again, and realized her right hand was strangling one of her knife handles. She tried to relax it, but to no avail. This happened sometimes too, so she just let her hand keep clenching the knife.

Though she is good at hiding it I can tell that Fox is hiding pains both physical and emotional. That was me not so very long ago. Has it been centuries. She is a kindred spirit of sorts. I recognize the style of her clothes. Baalhan was most descriptive. If she is from that realm then she truly is capable of great things. Trust must be earned. It's time to see about trust. "Fox, we have a tendency to get into trouble. Currently, we are on the run from an unknown threat, you seem to prefer knives to other weapons, and we need all of the assistance that we can get. Therefore, I think that you should be armed appropriately." I descend into my own mind. Instantly I am in the heart of a vast vault piled high with fabulous treasures, tomes, and weapons. I reach out and an ancient jewel encrusted dagger with a similarly formed sheath flies into my hand. In a flash I ascend again dagger now in my hand. I hold it out to Fox. "Welcome to our group. Do try not to cut yourself with it. It has a rather nasty tendency to eat away at the souls of those that it cuts. I got it from a friend who got it from a deity of your realm by the name of Anubis."

"Thank you, the Fox said, taking the knife with her left hand. "I will guard it well." She hooked the knife onto her belt. Then, realizing her right hand was back in her control, she withdrew it from her pocket, and wiped the sweat off her palms.

Vale takes out his gun and points it

A feeling of horror filled the Fox, as Vale took out a gun. She immediately averted her eyes from it, to prevent another flashback. She took her left leg, which was twisted the worst, and stomped the ground with it. Her whole leg felt like it was on fire. Re-focused, the Fox walked to the side of the group. She would fight to protect these people who had helped her, but she wasn't sure she fully trusted them enough to leave her back fully exposed.

Just assume that this all happened at the appropriate time. I was at school.

"Yes. I am well." The Fox said her rehearsed line, forcing a smile that probably looked more like a grimace.

The Fox grabbed a knife out of one of her pockets and allowed her fingers twirl it around. She let her emotion drain away back into the void. She was calm, like a fox. "Now I feel like taking off someone's arm." She glanced at Nath, thinking back to their earlier conversation. "As long as you aren't too disappointed, I think I'll focus my efforts on whatever wacko voodoo creature is chasing us."
