Three White Sand Comics from Dynamite, First in 2015

So, turns out becoming a redditor has its benefits. Found this (small) gem:

 

 

So there’s a White Sand, a new comic book series based on Brandon Sanderson‘s (Mistborn, The Reckoners) new concept, which will appear in comics first, and will be intergrated into his Cosmere continuity. There will be three White Sand graphic novels to begin with, the first for next year.

 

A brilliant, new fantasy world, White Sand is split into two halves: on one side are the Daysiders, and on the other the Darksiders. Daysiders have a unique ability to control and manipulate sand, bending it to their will to attack, or protect, as they wish. Darksiders have their own unique abilities and culture, and must wear thick dark lenses while on the Dayside. Generally speaking, Daysiders and Darksiders do not get along…and White Sand follows the adventures of one particular Daysider, a boy named Kenton.

Woo! It's good to finally have news about this.  Having read White Sand, I really can't wait.  I do wonder whether the "three books" are a serialization of the prose book or if they are the entire trilogy.

Most likely. I imagine the original White Sand will be treated like Mistborn Prime is now.

This seems like a decent enough place to ask this: is Brandon still handing out copies of White Sand? I got a copy of Aether off of him, recently, but now I figure I'd really like to read White Sand too, now that it's definitely not going to be a novel.

I'm seriously hyped about this, because I wasn't really planning on emailing in for a copy but I really didn't want to wait for it either. I haven't read any western comics so I don't know much about the company. Do you guys have any opinions on them?

Sad. Even when it comes out next year, those who have read the book will have to keep their mouths shut about later portions of the text.

I'm looking forward to the graphic novel, but I am a bit disappointed that White Sand won't be published as a novel as well (if that is accurate). I'd prefer more text over artwork.

Watchmen approach would be really neat (err, at least the all-in-one version I read. I don't know the details of how it was originally published) where, between chapters are in world articles and such that explains all sorts of world detail. Less in-character exposition frees up some space for better dialogue and such.

I'm sure most of the comic book world disagrees, but I'd be happy with a book on every left page and accompanying picture(s) on the right page.

Don't get me wrong, new Brandon book? That's awesome. His writing is really visual, with it's gravity defying fight sequences, or general 'cool' things, so seeing that spectacle should make the impact even stronger.

I'm just cautiously optimistic. Even people who exclusively write comics have the occasional misstep. It'll be interesting to see Brandon moving outside his comfort zone, and I'd love to hear him compare comic writing to novel... but I'm gonna reserve judgement on it until it's released I think.

The writer is the one who writes the scripts. They base it off of White Sand, obviously, but it probably won't be an exact copy. The writer also, IIRC, chooses how to do the frames. The artist then does all of that.
