I didnt remember the Sword thing at all, but I thought that the Half-pay rule was for Slaves vs Freemen, not for Light vs Darkeyes. Coppermind has no mention either way, Ill see what I can find.

I was getting it mixed up with when it is mentioned that Kaladin is getting paid three times as much as a regular soldier in WoR.
Bookish Ocelot she/her Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Kharbranth, because of the library!

Still your chances of being made a slave or something along those lines is much lower and life just tends to be easier if you have light eyes. 1
The Deity he/him Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Probably Purelake or Reshi, they seem very relaxed and give off an island kind of idea. Azir seems nice, but their laws are kinda weird, even though I kinda like the order.
Aggravatione Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 If I could change some things then depends. I'd love to be a duelist, and if i was Alethekar seems like the place to be. I'm not positive if my current eyes would allow for that though, they act oddly and sometimes seem pretty light and other times darker. Also not a huge fan of the whole vorinism thing, but I could deal if I had to. Otherwise i'd probably choose Azir or Kharbranth. If I would have access to the Palaneum and what not I'd love to be in Kharbranth, would never run out of anything to read. Azir, seems appealing because of the laws and everything.

The Vorin legal code establishes clearly how much each group makes and what kind of work they can be expected to do while employed. I guess my point is that the Lighteyes/Darkeyes split is not a simple Nobility Vs Serf sort of model, there's a more gradual distribution than that, and in the middle there is a lot of overlap. That's not to say being a Lighteyes certainly is a leg up and bypasses an awful lot of potential caste system hardship, but being Lighteyes alone doesnt guarantee an easy or even comfortable life (despite what Kaladin originally thought).

That is a pretty weird one yeah. Quote In Azir, you'd find something like existed in middle-ages India. (Some societies there had this curious system where a gay man would be given "social reassignment" so that he was treated like a woman, dressed like one, and had relations with men--even if he wasn't actually transsexual.) Ricocheting Windrunner Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 Has anyone else noticed that the map of the world with all the different countries looks like a sea serpent? With a curved neck and eyes?
Skaromas he/him Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 My options would be Azir, Purelake, Alethkar, Shinovar, or jah keved. Azir would be fun and good, problem is not sure i would like all the restrictions, i would have a hard time keeping strictly to them, purelake well it wouldnt be good for books but it does seem peaceful and rather enjoyable, Alethkar sounds fun, except the wars it seems quite nice and rural, although i certainly wouldnt really follow vorinism as i like to read withought being a slave. Shinovar because of how it is similar to earth and jah keved because it seems interesting from what we've seen. So Azir, or Alethkar, not sure what alethi rank i would be my eyes aren't dark but aren't too light.
+Child of Hodor Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Horneater Peaks so I can cure my airsickness.
Eternal Khol he/him Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 definitely Marabethia or Tu Bayla. any country bordering the Purelake is where you would find me
The Skybreakers he/him Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 If it was me I would probably choose Azir , I would chose a vorin nation but their restrictions on men reading are too much
Iarwainiel I she/her Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 At this point, it would have to be Urithuru for me - - somewhere that I could help the "good guys" win.
