KandraAllomancer he/him Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 I just stumbled upon it by accident - as it turns out, there was a historical event called the Night of Sorrows (La Noche Triste), during which the Spanish conquistadors (and their native allies) were driven out of Tenochtitlan. I wonder if it could have been any inspiration for Stormlight plot (possible given that Brandon probably researched Aztec history for the Aztlanian). If so, I see at least two possibilities for what Odium's Night of Sorrows could be: taking Urithiru from the Radiants driving Honor's forces out of Roshar What do you think? 2
Honorless he/him Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 Alternatively, the Night of Sorrows could be a thing old of design, like the Everstorm.
ScavellTane Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 (edited) I'd be cool if the Urithiru contingent had to move into Shadesmar. Edited December 7, 2019 by ScavellTane

Well, that does make sense. Taking Urithiru would be a strategic stronghold if it can be taken by odium. Though, I am not sure how they will be able to use the oath gate. As for driving out honors forces. Odium already said he cannot leave fragments of honor behind like he once thought. Which would explain why he is so determined to exterminate the humans. Makes perfect sense to me.
Use the Falchion Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 My belief is that the Night of Sorrows will be like an extended Weeping of sorts. The period where it rains without highstorms is called the Weeping, and I think Odium will wipe out highstorms in order to cut his enemy off from their power source. It'll start at the end of Book 5 and happen through Books 6 and maybe 7 (Lift and Renarin's books respectively). Why? Lift and Renarin are weird, and Sanderson made them weird for a reason. We know Lift doesn't need highstorms to function as a Radiant, and Renarin is just all kinds of odd but theoretically shouldn't either. So both of them could work to solve the problem of bringing highstorms - and by proxy Honor's Investiture - back to Roshar, if only for a little bit. It'd also have some nice parallels with The Girl Who Looked Up. 2

Toaster Retribution he/him Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 Night of Sorrows keeps reminding me of Long Night from asoiaf. I do like the historical connections though, and there has been earlier speculation that humans will have to escape Roshar. 1

That's adding a lot of assumption. All we have is the Stormfather saying "It is a new thing, but old of design." Simplest answer is just that it was based on the Highstorm itself, which itself is one of the oldest things around, having predated the Shattering itself. Giving Odium credit for the design or confirming when he conceived of making his own are both things we dont yet have confirmed. 1
