What Dapper said. My judgements were correct. I really didn’t want them to be…but alas, Dapper is purposely annoying us. I probably deserve it, you guys don’t.

Nah, it's a compliment. I truly think that Shadow really could have been a very interesting hero.

Also, you can thank Mr. Venture for the meme idea.

Why?

What motive would I have? I don't resent you, or anyone else here for that matter. There's no point in annoying you like this anyway.

I  just want to join something I should've joined a long time ago.

I'm not overly opposed to Dapper entering. We need to find a place to stick him in, of course; right now we're in a stage of the story with less exposition.

Tom knelt down and poured the serum down her throat. Then he jumped up and took a few steps backwards.

The serum awoke.

First, it thought, burns.

A red glow began to emanate from within Heather's fallen form. Slowly but surely, her burns began to heal, flesh spreading together.

Oh! it thought, as it felt something oppose it. What's this?

Gently but firmly, it pushed on the whatever-it-was that was resisting it. The charred skin began to evaporate in trails of smoke as the healing accelerated.

Next, it thought, loss.

It touched Heather's soul with a comforting embrace, healing her grief and putting her mind to rest. She would still miss those she had lost, but acceptance would put her soul at peace.

Finally, it thought, guilt.

Cautiously, the serum opened up the memories of failure and confronted the poor soul. This part was outside of its control- it could try to provide assistance, but the ultimate result was up to the patient's subconscious. They would either accept the responsibility and the guilt, in which case the serum would soothe the pain away; or they would reject it, and he would be forced to leave it unhealed.

At last, after each memory had been confronted, the serum released her mind. She had been rather disappointing, to be honest, rejecting far more mistakes than she accepted, but in other areas she had healed wonderfully.

The serum didn't have a mouth, but if it did, it would have smiled in satisfaction.

To Star, it felt like a weight had been removed from her shoulders. She hated seeing the poor girl in such pain. She knew, all too well, what burns like those felt like. Heather had done many things as Shadow that might have called for severe punishment, but she was truly trying hard to fight her impossible battle. That was valiant.

Ember shouldn't have done what she did. Deep in her heart, Star understood that she hadn't meant to damage Heather like that, but it was a hard thing to forgive, even when the offender was just doing what she was made to do. She glanced up. Ember was standing, stone-faced toward the back of the group, hands behind her back. It was only the slight downward tilt of her head that told Star that the Destroyer was hiding something. She sighed internally. Eventually, she'd have to confront her about it, but for now... Maybe it was good for her to feel some remorse.
