Why could they leave the little girl alone? Why did she have to be the one to take on a fantastical force of destruction? Why wouldn't the world just STORM OFF!? 2

She hadn't wanted to turn into... into whatever she had become. A pained, ragged thing. A murderer. Capable of destruction only. Skylar was dead now. He had hung himself because of her. What good had it done? What good? Nothing. There was nothing left. No home to run back to. Just the drink. Not that that would help her now. Not that she was worth help anyway. She didn't love him. In truth, she never had. She could never love. Not with that cold Sliver, and not with a human heart. 2

Of course Shadow had been under the influence of the destroyer. And underneath... a little girl. Just like Star herself. I understand you, Star said mentally, giving the child her love and empathy.
