First the AV PM and now this?

Doc waved to Cassie to run for the truck. He grinned as she ran out the doors, dodging cars and buses on her way to the truck. She ran around the front of the vehicle and yanked open the passenger side door. She jumped in as a thump sounded in the truck bed.

"Ok," the redhead shouted, "Let's go!"

Doc put the truck into gear and tore out of the airport.

~Later~

A grey truck pulled into the driveway, two people visible in its bed. Doc parked it where the jeep would usually go, and pulled the keys out.

"We're here." he shouted to the others in the back. Jamie hopped nimbly over the tailgate, surveying the large house.

"Nice place," she said to Doc, "What'cha do for a living?"

"Hum?" Doc responded, "Oh, I'm a freelance engineer. I design stuff and sell it to companies. It pays the bills"

"And then some" she quipped, snickering. Doc shrugged, a faint smile on his face, and walked to the door.

Jamie followed, looking up at the roof. It really was a very nice place. Well built, and fairly new. She was on the step before she realized that her bags were still in the back of the truck. She frowned, then went back and got them. Shouldering her backpack, she walked out of the drizzle and into the warm house. Doc had already taken off his coat and carefully hung up the truck's keys.

"We're back!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the large house.

Shana forced herself to smile at Ben.

"Don't worry. I'm exhausted."

She replied and asked with a glance to wait until later.

"In favor. But then we shouldn't sit around here, then he will worry. He will notice we went a bit over the top anyway."

Her eyes found the two dust piles that had been a stool and the useless remains of her weapon. Not to mention her blood splattered cloths.

Doc wandered into the kitchen, mind focused on other matters. Other types of Investiture existed. Doc didn't know how many, but there was at least one. Everything they thought they knew was wrong. There would be new ways to fight against the Voidbringers, perhaps finally turn the tides and wipe them out for good. And, perhaps, there would be enemies, stranger than anything they could imagine.

Doc was so lost in thought that he barely realized that he'd made a sandwich. He shrugged, taking a bite. It was a good sandwich.

Jamie wandered around the large house aimlessly, looking for someone to tell her the layout so she could finally relax. She rubbed her eyes. Lack of rest had seemed inconsequential when faced with a light pewter burn. Now that she'd stopped buring pewter, however, her exhaustion was almost too much to bear. Only years of training prevented her from crashing on the floor.

“Maybe you two should go and change clothes... If Docs sees the blood, he will likely know that something happened.”

Shana nodded and slowly rolled over, pushed herself up to all fours. Her arms started shaking and her head swam from the strain alone. Storms, it had been a while since she pushed herself that far. Gritting her teeth she looked to Ben and then inhaled a tiny amount of stormlight, just enough to stand up.

"Help me upstairs?"

She asked Ben, unsure how she should make it up the stairs on her own.

“Ok. You all cover up the blood that’s already here.” Rob groaned, and moved to a squatting position, slowly standing up and balancing himself. He saw Shana ask for Ben’s help upstairs, and Rob realised he might have needed help too. But he didn’t say anything.

“I will stand, where others fall,” Rob said, repeating his second oath to himself as he tried to walk back in the house on shaking legs. His shirt was practically non-existent, large burns ripping through it and barely holding it to him. He continued walking, he fell a few times, one time he fell down the stairs and it was pretty painful, but continued to his room.

Shana leaned on Ben, let him take a part of her weight. Tiredly she followed him to the door, exhaustion let her stumble over her own feet.

"I'm sorry."

She forced the words out of her mouth, they were a couple for a few hours and she had spent most of that time beating herself bloody with Rob.

Wincing everytime she heard Rob stumble, and the fall down the stairs she wished to was strong enough to help him. But right now she was glad she didn't fall down every few steps herself, and that was only because of Ben's help.

Supporting Shana with one hand, Ben opened the door with the other. He saw the blood covering her, watched her stumble over her own feet. He again felt a wave of guilt that threatened to crush him. He should have done something more to protect her, to keep something like this from happening to her.

”Shana.”

He looked into her eyes and brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear, wishing he could somehow take her exhaustion from her.

“You don’t need to apologize for anything.”

He paused, words failing him again.

Her room was a mess, but usually she would have explained, that there was a system, that she had sorted her cloths and what she needed to do sports, carefully checking her equipment. On her table were her books, next to some half finished homework. But right now she was too exhausted to care, instead she simply rested her head on his shoulder, hugged him weakly and trusted him to keep her upright.

When they entered the room, Ben noted its messy state. He would have to ask Shana later if she would be alright with him organizing it. Ben wrapped his arms around her, hoping he was comforting her. He then led her to the bed and sat her down.

”You need to rest.”

Shana nodded, sank on her bed. Sitting was good, better than standing or walking. Tiredly she started to get rid of her bloody shirt and stopped when she realized Ben was watching. Blushing deeply she stared at her feet.

"Turn around for a moment?"

Ben blushed deeply as well. He walked to the other side of the room and stood facing the wall. He felt incredibly awkward. Should he make conversation?
