“Ok, I will come then, I guess,” Ben said, rising. He forcibly kept his hands at his sides to avoid any more humiliating mistakes.

Happily Shana took the cookies and waved at Tyler.

"You should come as well. Can't hurt you."

Grabbing Ben's arm she nudged him into the general direction of their pool.

Ben allowed himself to be led along, still confused as to why people would want to go swimming, but still content, as he was still able to read his book.

Eek, bean. SLOW DOWN. But you should totally have Jordan end up in jazz band with Tyler.

Tyler, in a rare moment of kindness, smiled. "I would love to, but I really need to practice. Jazz band tryouts are in three days. I got in last year and the year before, but this year, I've got competition."

Shana kept her smile and showed him a thumbs up.

"Alright! Good luck with practice!"

She towed Ben outside and sat down next to him.

"Ben, you're smart. You're reading a lot. I have this maths test in a week."

She trailed of, looked at him pleadingly.

“Err... I guess I could help? I mean.. I’m not that great a teacher, but it can’t hurt to try?” he smiled awkwardly. “Soooo... what do you need help on?”

”Smooth,” Glint whispered in his ear, completely sincere.

Tyler walked down the hallway, up the stairs to the top floor, and then pulled down the trapdoor to the newly soundproofed attic.

"You really shouldn't be so rude," Douse said. "They have feelings too."

"Feelings that I don't care about. Sorry about the way I treated you earlier. Now shoo. I gotta practice," Tyler responded.

Doc smiled and checked his watch. It was a Friday, he had eight new emails, and there was a single text, marked URGENT, from one of his Radiant contacts in downtown. He pulled out his phone and opened the text,

Possible Voidbringer sighted at the docks, please advise.

he wrote back with:

Probably a false alarm, but keep an eyeout for redeyes.

So, on the topic of Voidbringers, I was think that they're hidden in secrect locations all over the world, and they occasionally do raids on Radiant enclaves.

And they're probably human.

"Analytical Geometry."

She sighed.

"All these lines and planes and functions. I'm at a loss, I have no idea what they want, or what it is about."

Mahad whirled around her hand, a small cloud of dust and then flew over to Glint, seemed to poke him friendly.

I can change the subject, was the first one I could think of.

Glint, terrified of the attention, remained completely still.

I kinda know about that? If anything I’d be better informed on Algebra stuff.

As you prefer and how detailed you want to explain it to her. I'm fine with either.

Mahad picked up a small leaf and floated it over to Glint, placed it on Ben close to Glint. Then the small cloud waited to see if there was a reaction.

Glint inched a bit closer to the leaf, peering at it curiously. “How did you do that?” he asked, his curiosity overcoming his fear.

”Ok,” Ben said, “Wait, uh, do you have any paper or pencils?”

"What, now?"

Shana looked longingly at the water and then nodded.

"I'll fetch them. Give me five minutes."

She hurried upstairs and quickly showered, then changed into some comfortable shorts with a top. Afterwards she felt better more like she could sit down next to someone and grabbed her bag, returning to the pool.

Mahad whirled around happily.

"I don't know. I only do it. it's light enough for me to move. You like it?"

“Oh, I do like the leaf, but I am more interested in how you managed to move it. I can barely even show up in the physical realm, yet you are here strongly enough to move objects. It’s fascinating!”

The cloud stopped moving, seemed to sag down.

"I don't know."

He repeated sounding diminueshed.

"I never questioned it. Maybe it has something to do with my Radiant?"

“That’s ok!” Glint said, not wanting to upset the only potential friend besides Ben he had had in, well, ever. “You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.”

Andrew stopped his wheelchair in the middle of crosswalk. Oh, yes, I forgot to call Ben.

He picked his phone, the old, veird and heavy thing made of three or four normal phones, and called Ben ignoring car drivers that started shout on him. Then he finally slowly moved to the sidewalk.

Mahad repeated.

"I would tell you, if I knew."

He pushed the leave closer.

"Maybe try it?"

Shana looked at Ben and opened her book, showed him what she had to do for homework.
