I'd recommend some of the Legends material as well since some of it is quite interesting. Though I haven't read it in a while Darth Plagueis By James Luceno was pretty good. The original Thrawn trilogy of books by Timothy Zahn functioned basically as the sequel trilogy of the Legends universe, it's kind of like a cool alternate history novel.

There are some great Legends books. I read the 9 book series about Jacen Solo’s downfall, and it was truly amazing.

I still like the NJO stuff. Did not like LOTF near as much but EU’s last series FOTJ really was fairly solid and very interesting things were happening.

i will never buy another SW book though. Not risking having another axe drop after 20 yrs and 1,000’s of $.

oh and Resistance SUCKS! I don’t even recognize it as a Filoni project like TCW and Rebels. It is just dumb.

Even Rebels was a bit of a step down in some ways.  The animation was great and we had some good moments but generally mea.

I think weirdly enough I would not have minded RoJ if FA had not been so great and so ingrained in me.  I expected a sequal that was cohesive and answered my questions and I got laughed at for having questions at all or believing that this would in any way tie into the first one.

Don't want to turn this into a TLJ flame war, as I don't actually hate the movie, but I'm curious why y'all like it more than TFA.

TLJ is more risky and disruptive and has a sharper direction. TFA is cool, but very nostalgic and safe, I've already seen the plot in other movies before. I don't like when any franchise try to bind the public through nostalgia, feels like the producers have nothing new to offer

I can totally see where you're coming from! I mean, one of the early critiques of the prequels (Which are genuinely my favorite SW films) was that they weren't like the original trilogy.

I discovered SW trough prequel trilogy when I was I child so I didn't have the nostalgia effect attached on me and the movies themselves were enough to make me a fan, but now I find the prequel trilogy a bit problematic in technical points.like the plot (though I find it a bit confused), but the character development is pretty bad and the screenplay is not really the best. Sometimes I felt like Obi wan was the truly main character, his journey was usually a lot more funnier and enjoyable than Anakin's

I think overall first and third trilogies are much better, I give the original trilogy the crown atm, but only for innovation purpose and legacy, because while A New Hope was great and Empire Strikes Back was marvelous The Return of Jedi was basic and underwhelming. For now I find TFA funny and competent and TLJ a great movie, if the next movie somewhat manage to close the plot holes left by TLJ and give this trilogy a true epic end then I'll give the crown the the newer trilogy just because I find sequel trilogy the most consistent

Not even one of the Timothy Zahn books? They're pretty good.

Nope! I passed the test when Thrawn came out which was my biggest hurdle. I’m one of the movie only fans I used to make so much fun of.

TLJ did kind of loose track of the difference between subverting expectations and telling a new story.  If star wars had not already been an established series no one would realy know what they were going for when they made the movie.  It did not have a clear message and it kept pulling out new twists that instead of making it better just kind of lost most of us.  Example if you don't want to make Rey's parents important then that is fine but make sure that your audience knows that they are not important(or at least foreshadow it).  Don't build them up and then make us all feel betrayed.

It reminded me of a butterfly knife, in a way.

That poster looks horrible and cheap and turns out that the Palps on it was shot from a toy. Sigh

That lightsaber Rey has is all kinds of dumb. Even dumber looking then the Inquisitor spinning sabers in Rebels.

That Rey v Kylo shot seems a straight rip of Obi v Vader on Mustafar.

I want December already.

I hate being on board the negativity train,  but that poster really is an abominable cg nightmare.  It's looks like a knock off ps2 cover.  From a bargain bin.  In China.

I'm hoping the movie is good.  I'm not particularly looking forward to seeing it, and nothing looks all that exciting so far.  I'm gonna give it a chance though, and hope for the best.  The Mandalorian looks excellent at least.

Making one good looking cg frame of a movie is easy.  Doing so for an entire movie is hard.  I also doubt they want to show their absolute best scene right now since the casual viewer is not yet paying attention to star wars at all.

Definitely pretty dang hyped for this movie. (But then again, I at least like every Star Wars film.)

All of them?

Those Lightsabers were inquisitor cheat mode as a way of quickly killing more skilled opponents(I am going to pretend the flying thing never happened).  It also makes sense for Rey to choose a weapon that conforms better to her fighting style.

Parts of the actual fight scene were good(even if the movie was awful).

Raises eyebrows.  How do you manage that?
