. . . Okay.

He reappeared deeper in the branches of the tree.

She looked up and tried to smile--he was almost directly overhead. "I won't hurt you," she promised.

Five stared at her for several seconds in heartbroken horror.

Her mother… her mother hadn't wanted her.

She’d left her to the dark, the pain… left her alone.

The fire was growing hot now.

“Kind of, but more eagle-ish. Ours are nice and tame.”

“Beautiful,” she breathed, reaching for the candle.

Just before her fingers brushed it, the candle faded. A new one winked into existence off to the left, ahead of her.

Glen didn’t see that one, though. He saw one off to the right, instead.

Terry scowled but did as commanded. Before he entered a building, Bob came out of it with the people— more than Terry had rounded up.

The people did as commanded.

they gon be traumatized for generations—

“I… no.”

4 hours ago, Through The Living Glass said:

N-no . . . are they still here, like you . . . ?

Frrrrrr

Utility nodded.

And then he left. The people's feet and legs became stuck to the stone, and wouldn't come away.

He gestured for Terry and Bob to follow him, then went to the lower levels and ordered them to do the same as they'd done before.

She frowned. "Something bad happened. Something really bad."

Okay, so Malevolence is going after the Plotblade Antagonist, which is bad because then that makes him the ultimate villain or whatever, right? Well basically- anyway, we don't want him to get it, so Rebus is trying to get it instead and prove he's a better villain or whatever, and he needed my help to do that.

“Oh. Cool.” He paused. “Prove to who? He’s not coming for us…?”

13 minutes ago, Dragonheir said:

“Alright, hold on.” Rebus’s trolley dropped downwards, using something like the weapon he’d given her to drill through the ground. “I’ll open the gate, and then we can rescue those people.”

“No,” she said sharply. “No. Please trust me. Don’t go near them.”

She took a deep shuddering breath and buried her face in her knees.

“You know she was right.”

What? What happened?

“Yeah, what happened?”

“Of course I won’t! I’ll take a couple of these things, cover them with Nullite paint and add some actual weapons, and remote control them so I can rescue the people.”

A girl with long, wavy brown hair sat on a flat wooden swing tied to a tree, humming into the breeze. Her skin was pale, her eyes paler. She was tall and slender, and her twentieth birthday was rapidly approaching. She was alone but looked content to be so. There was an empty spot next to her on the swing.

She hugged herself again, then got up and shook her head, got back on the swing.

Jay happened to be walking by.

She stared at him for a moment. “Y- yes, of course, that’s… that’s… yes.”

Rose nodded. “That’s probably a good idea.”

I DID SI THERE

She froze.

“Wh- what?”

He nodded, opening a portal to Tam and Bat.

. . . No.

Utility only smiled and waited.

"Only if you swear your allegiance. You can help Terry and Bob gather the people," he said with a grin.

"... never. Not to a monster like you."

Rebus began to laugh. “You failed, you know. The most important failure you could make. You stopped making your Author like you.”

Rebus hopped on his trolly, balancing on top of it. “Alright, then, come on!”

"... why?" he asked, gasping for breath. The question didn't seemed aimed at Rebus though.

A Narrator has died without his power being fragmented and destroyed? Nameless sighed with a half-real sound. Honestly. What was he doing?

"You don't..." The guard squinted at him. "This is the kingdom of Marind. If you are a traveler, how did you get past the beasts?

Bah. You hardly need experience, what with the low quality of Narrators and the like these days. You'll be just fine.

"All right. I'll draw them off. Wait until I've distracted them, then run for it." Palsu picked up the broken spear that the Shade had been using and charged off into the camp silently.

Moments later, an alarm went up, shouts and cries echoing through the camp.

I'm going to assume that Cricket was a typo, but let me know if I'm wrong.

Malevolence pressed a few buttons, transporting the thirteen hunters away. He turned an imperious stare on those who remained. "So. Will you follow me?"

The hunters who had been teleported appeared onto a green hill overlooking a large walled city. Surrounding the city were four massive rifts that stretched into the sky, jaggedly curving in a partial dome above the city. The rifts opened into an endless darkness, and shapes moved within them. New cracks spread from one of the rifts as the hunters watched, moving towards the rift on its left. Soon, it seemed, the city would be utterly surrounded by the void.

"I am well enough." Malevolence ignored Aelinor as he had Unintelligible, a cup of tea appearing in his hand. "Although I have been better." He gestured to the numerous medical devices attached to him, then took a sip of tea. "I understand you have questions for me?"

yeh sorry

I was in a mode

The hunters shivered. Then as one, they began to teleport away.

The hunters stared in awe. One, however, strode forward, taking in the field of battle. Simon. Malan's oldest and most powerful hunter. "This is it, then." he sighed, lighting a cigarette from his pocket and puffing on it. "Our last mission."

He sighed.

"Why is it your tree?"

YAYAYAY

Tam shuddered.

"It was scary," she said in a small voice. "I don't remember much else."

What happened? Are you okay?

-

"Why?" Utility called over his shoulder.

Uhhh... I'm fine. he settled. Dwelling on the pain did no good. He needed to be stronger than the pain. Always.

-

"I'm valuable!" he called out in desperation. "My parents are rich!"
