Tam stood and took Bat's hand.

Huh. I hadn't realized we'd walked so far down.

He nodded. It’s easy to lose track.

Apparently, she yawned, stepping out of the elevator with him.

He stopped and gave her a squeeze, then walked with her back to his house.

Then he paused. What would they tell his family??

Uh . . . what are we gonna we tell them?

I dunno… I guess just play it by ear?

A few things may have led to this misconception. First, the Narrativium in your core is substantially more dense than that in the dream crystal you gave to Balitan. Second, your clones are, unless specifically cut off, linked to one another, and will share energy. Third, you are correct in assuming that there’s an external source of Narration. Ambient Chaotic Light energy can be commanded by Narrators, and the Thread is filled with it. Beyond that, they subconsciously absorb it over time, replenishing their strength.

Moni sighed. “What does Surtur want to judge us for?”

You've broken every law by entering Ragnorok. You must die."

What followed seemed to him quite strange, most likely. His sight stopped functioning halfway through as they messed with his eyes, took them apart, put them back together… but at least he didn’t feel any pain.

She sobbed.

She nodded approvingly. “It fits.” She returned a new monocle, but upon closer inspection, it only floated near her eye, rather than touching it.

“Ah, here we are,” she said, standing as they arrived at a very normal looking cliff.

She shrugged and knocked on the first one. There was no answer.

“Come on,” Rose said eagerly, and jogged in that direction.

He nodded, blushed, and put his arm around her.

They waited for several minutes. The woman called out seemingly random numbers— five, sixty two, twenty three, forty. Eventually she called forty six and Bat reluctantly let go.

Cricket followed after her, heading down the dusty road until they hit a crossroads, where a woman was sitting and weeping.

“You don’t look so good,” Rose observed.

The woman grabbed her hair by its roots. "Why?" she wailed. "Why do you take them from me?"

After a long long time, it did return, and shortly after the numbing began to wear off. He’d been moved to a cot in a dark room.

-

She sobbed harder.

"Just remember, we're not monsters, this could be you too." she said as she walked out to find the Manager

"Can we at least turn the lights on?"

"She's broken down. Didn't take long, a few details about how much pain he's in and she just snapped. She shouldn't be a problem"

There was no reply for a moment, and then an intern stepped in and flicked on the lights.

His vision seemed normal.

He nodded. “Good, good.”

“Yes. Though I’ve been thinking it might be interesting to get some in the girl as well, since she’s not manifested any powers yet.”

A woman joined him as he walked.

“Hello,” she said. “You’re rather new.”

Regulus didn't blink. His parents had long drilled into him the ways of adventuring in TLT, and his father's words ran through his mind as he turned to greet the mysterious woman.

"Son, always remember the guiding rule of TLT: If someone appears next to you without explanation, then they're most likely a Narrator. So be polite."

Back in the present, Regulus broke the somewhat awkward silence that had ensued while he replayed his flashback. "Yes, I am. I'm Regulus, what's your name?"

Regulus frowned, momentarily confused. "I do?" Understanding dawned as he remembered some more wisdom from his father.

"Now son, if you ever meet a Narrator, the first thing you're going to want to do is shield your thoughts from their Narration. It's a relatively simple technique. All you have to do is-"

Regulus stared blankly ahead for a few more seconds, then continued speaking. "Nice to meet you Symbol! I presume you're a Narrator?"

Rebus nodded. “That all makes sense. I should know all of that already, but you know how Authors are. Maybe I’ll compile a lecture of some sort, something a bit more detailed than Fate’s overview… We’ll want the Diffuse Chaotic Light entity to tap into that ambient energy, though if they parallel the Chaotic Dark equivalents it will have far less raw power than a Narrator.”

“Ah, good. My scanning agrees - though we should probably run a few more to figure out exactly what’s below us and how to access it.” Rebus stepped off the vehicle, which collapsed into a floating cart. He then unfolded an antenna, hitting a few buttons to begin a highly conspicuous scan of the area.

@TwinStorm

Kion was presumably there, and presumably unconscious and tied up.

Hm. Perhaps. Or perhaps Withergeists are weaker because their nature is antithetical to existence.
