Max decided to follow in Jasnah’s footsteps and get an education. He was immediately accepted to university, being a Radiant.

He didn’t even have to finish the test. He just wrote his name then placed it on the desk. Another aspiring university initiate was rather peeved about it, as she thought that was extremely unfair.

And then a thermonuke hit her.

Asneps found herself expelled from the flight academy. Max tried to console her.

She just screamed things like "I will feast on the marrow of your bones while drinking of your blood" at him.

Apparently Truthwatchers couldn’t heal insanity.

At least that of Asneps. It was too ingrained in her spirit web - she had no idea what she would be without her over-the-top threats.

Her grandmother had taught her these terrible habits, but was now blind, deaf, and mute.

So Asneps had killed her for being physically disabled. Which is very wrong because you should never kill anyone just because they are different or have conditions that you don't. Equality for all, even those who can't speak, see or hear. ... Wow, that got kind of preachy.

The gods of Justice and all that is good in the world struck Asneps down.

It hit Max pretty hard. It was like Edna dying all over again, even though he never really knew Asneps.

As he would always give her free ice cream when she was sad.

Sympathy didn’t come as easily for Jasnah.

When Vin was sad, she would take away all of her ice cream so she could "focus" on becoming happy again.
