Cricket sighed. He shouldn't be thinking about that. They were his friends, and deserved to be happy. He had killed Malan after all, and could start a new life. No need to be dwelling on the past.

"You're good." he said slowly. "I'm fine."

Bat nodded, eyes on the eggs. “I’m still sorry,” he mumbled. “I— I should go help with the dishes, or…”

And with that, he fled.

Cricket stayed. He crashed on the bed, staring upwards, feeling every emotion that could possibly be felt.

Moment pulsed within, and then grew into form. Form. Yes. Emotions needed form. They needed shape. Moment buzzed and then suddenly, shadows erupted from Cricket.

The shadows ignored Cricket. They didn't understand Cricket. So they went after everything that caused Cricket emotions. Shades of blue and red started running through the room, silhouettes multiplying.

"I... uh..." Stop! he commanded forcefully, hoping the shadows obeyed.

They didn't. Instead, they all paused and stared at Cricket.

Something more was needed.

He sighed, confused. Come to me. he said hesitantly.

The red shadows and blue shadows came together and formed an exact reflection, a silhouette of yellow.

No.

What do you want?

I, the silhouette said, want to exist. I want to feel. I want to live that Moment.

My Moment of pain? Or my Moment of... everything?

Ruia dug it up and accepted the request from her black palace.

It’s real late, so I’ll continue this conversation tomorrow.
Rebus appears, still dressed in his sleek black and white armor. The electrical arcs have stopped, but orange lights - as always - pulse along his long coat and the groves in the armor. He smiles brightly, not showing the lingering sense of mild disappointment and bitterness to non-Narrators. “Ruia. Excellent seeing you, as usual. You did well, with Malevolence and Malan. Have you received your other visitors yet?”

The moment of being fully alive. The moment of being real. The silhouette stopped moving. The moment that makes you a character.

Oh. I... don't know what to give you, then.

Give me your emotions. Give me... Your character...

Something started shimmering in the Silhouette's hand.

You... A pause. Become one of them. A shadow. The forgotten.

What! No! he said, scrambling backwards. I can't! I won't! Not now!

What does it mean? How are you... A character? What makes you a character and myself not?

I don't know! he replied desperately. But I don't want to fade!

Don't we all? I am just an emotion. I am just a byproduct of how you feel. The silhouette summoned an exact replica of Moment as a sword. Additionally, an exact replica of Moment appeared in Cricket's hand.

"I challenge you to the Trial of the Character."

"Oh, okay." he replied, gripping the sword.

*gets to 3414*

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Tam finally woke up.

"Ugh- hey, guys," she mumbled groggily.

The shadow rushed towards cricket, swinging in a downward arc. It slashed in front of cricket, just inches from their face, and then brought the thing down.

A Rainbow glittering slash persisted in front of cricket, in the exact place where the blade had slashed. It was razor sharp too

"You get the first move."
