Then, realizing she was asleep, he closed his eyes, lying down again.

He had been useless. Stone had been toying with him. He felt sick. He had done nothing against Stone, failing to protect Tam from him, leaving her at his mercy, though she had managed to win.

Cricket was already gone for the response and did not hear it.

Cricket looked up from where he had lying. “Hey.” he said, grinning weakly, raising a hand before collapsing again“Just… give me a sec. I’ll be back soon.”

The Ennuller grabbed Cricket by the wrist.

Rebus nods thoughtfully. “Yes. That is what I want - so I can get what I want. What do you want?”

Rebus grins. “Did you hear that the stolen Plotblades seemingly have not been returned?”

"The cost depends on what you ask. Is it simply power you wish for? The ability to make a difference?"

He received an indication that Omen was prepared for his trial if Rebus wished to seek him out.

Subversion blinked at 656. "Well if it's that important, I'll tell them. Not sure they'll believe me, but I'll try to be convincing."

"Thank you," whispered 656, leaning back. "Thank you..."

14 hours ago, NameIess said:

"Indeed." The traveler replies. "I hate paperwork. How's the trial going?"

The Dreamsmith rises as well. "So you require a weapon that can deal with undying creatures? I am tempted to recommend Mordite, but weapons made from that metal come with high risks and I have none of it here." He strokes his metal jaw in thought, eyes glowing like embers as he examines the Emperor. "I can see a way to help you. You are a Narrator, and your soul is infused with the light of your gods." He nods to himself. "Yes, I think that would work. It will not be without consequences, but I can see a way to make a weapon that will allow you to contain them indefinitely."

Yeah, Platypus has been called as the first witness.

"It's just started. Someone's about to testify."

Somewhere else...

Bacon exploded onto the scene, dual-wielding bacon-sandwich guns.

"Did somebody say SANDWICHES?"

Cricket had broken free of his grip, and had left to find Tam already, unfortunately.

Cricket looked at her nervously as she awoke. When she didn’t shout at him, he calmed down slightly. “Hey.” he whispered, smiling sadly.

Cricket got more blankets, throwing them over Tam, just in case, but quickly returned to her side.

Bat smiled thankfully at him.

The Great Wizard remained silent, and eventually the Wise Judge sighed. "Very well. Which charges do you plead guilty to?" ... stood, repeating what he'd said to Selppaenip. The Wise Judge nodded. "In that case, we shall focus our trial on those claims you have pled not guilty to. Prosecution, call your first witness."

The Adventurer's lawyer stood dramatically. "As my first witness, I call... Platypus!"

“Truly? What we’ve been working for all this time? What is the secret?” Not yet knowing what “it” is, Rebus begins to improvise. He wracks his brain for more modified memories, and looks around the laboratory for context.
Artificial Rebus looks up, impressed Malevolence hacked his nanotechnology. “Interesting… how long have you been in this ‘world of evil’? It seems other evil people could benefit from these devices; a secret communication network that only works if their goals align with yours. It weed’s out heroic infiltration, too, though evil backstabbing wouldn’t be prevented unless you fine-tuned the device. Of course, it isn’t that important.”

"I have finally been able to synthesize a miniscule amount of Luxite!" Balitan laughs. "I can create the until-now hypothetical Balancium, a combination of all four metals!"

"Oh, I've just entered the world of evil recently. Finally prepared enough for it, you know? I suppose I could give this tech to other evil people. Then I could use it to perform evil backstabbing on them!"

Platypus stood, and walked his way down to the witness desk. He'd been expecting to be called by the prosecution, but not as the first witness. This was certainly a strategy. Time would tell if it would pay off.

“Well, I’m quite good at getting into places I’m not expected to be in.” Love shivered, glancing back at the outer door. “Particularly when the other option is freezing to death. I’m here because I got lost in the snowstorm outside, obviously. As for who I am, I am merely a humble traveler.” He dug into his pockets, muttering to himself softly.

It’s not the Priest. He only comes around after a profession of true love.

”Luxite can, as I have theorized, be gathered in extremely small amounts. It is after all the substance that the foundations of reality are forged from.” Balitan holds up a very small vial with a few minuscule grains of metal in it. “It will take time to figure out how to increase production, but I believe I could easily increase my yields by five or six times with the improvements to my procedure. As for synthesis, we’ll have to find out! I assume you’ll let me access your stores of the other fundamental metals?”

Malevolence’s voice is hushed for some reason as he replies. “Well I’d be happy to help you in any evil endeavors, just call me. I’ll leave a line open to you.”
