Maybe I can find a purpose as well.” Rebus, having effectively been re-granted an informed ability, sends a thankful letter anyway, careful to use mundane (or non-Narrative, at least) channels. He looks through the letter for applications or techniques he isn’t using yet, hoping that in doing so he’ll get some more information out of the description. The Render perks up at the inexplicably transmitted message, pausing construction on its now-sprawling monument. “Who are you? I need to return.” The letter was absent of tips on how to be a Narrator. Presumably, Onyx figured that it would come naturally. 7 hours ago, Ookla the nostealnamepls said: “I don’t know. A few of them approached in the form of shadows, we didn’t see them until they were on us. Me and Tald got away. But that night…” Palsu’s eyes took on a haunted look. “They called in the voices of our friends. Tald ran ahead of me and they- they-“ he looked down. “I ran. Found this cave, and hid in it. I’ve been here for… three days now? I’m almost out of supplies.” Subversion sent a return letter. Plotblade are normally found on quests, and there are other malevolent entities such as the denizens of the Maelstrom or some Narrators that are particularly nasty, but the Witherlord is, in my mind at least, the preeminent evil of the Thread. And don’t worry about compensation. As the battle continues, the Emperor’s forces begin pushing back the forces of chaos. Soon the Beast is among the last standing. Oddly, despite the terrible odds against him, he laughs. “You have lost, little Emperor.“ “Indeed!” Subversion smiles broadly. “Don’t worry, I’m safe. What are you here for?” "Safe? How can you be safe?" 7 hours ago, Ookla the nostealnamepls said: “Very well. I shall finalize the preparations for the trial. We can set the date to… later today, perhaps? We’ll have to see how the ABF affects things.” "ABF?" 7 hours ago, Ookla the nostealnamepls said: The Wise Judge looks down at it. “Ah. Well, the AB factor will be quite low. Perhaps the AGFM factor will be high too, although it’s hard to say. "AGFM?" 2 hours ago, Ookla the Dragonslayer said: Tenth hesitated. On 12/17/2024 at 7:57 PM, Ookla the Inconclusive said: Odd. Alright. "You'll have to forgive me," said Bacon thoughtfully. "For some reason, my memory seems to be on the fritz. But staying safe from relentless, unstoppable creatures? That was something he knew how to do. “That must have been terrible. You may not believe me, but I can relate. We’ll find you more supplies, and either shore up this cave or help you get somewhere safer. I hear there are resistance organizations.” Rebus sends a letter back, as such a communication method is indistinguishable from dialogue, at least to a Narrator. Thank you for the information. I’ll avoid the Witherlord, and though perhaps not other evil Narrators. The head demon of the Maelstrom actually contacted me, but I annoyed it away accidentally. It withdrew, I think, because even token assistance from an Author’s characters can open up their other characters to harm, due to buy-in. Unless of course it is my Author, who’ll apparently let anyone with a plausible explanation kill me, or perhaps someone particularly God-mod inclined, who may no-sell everything I do. 4 hours ago, Ookla the Irreplaceable said: a dying person told them the one who is seven title. Before him knelt a cloaked woman. "Mighty Emperor, I have come to offer my aid to you in the coming conflict. I can equip your army with mighty weapons that will destroy your enemies." "What do you care about?" Ista studied the proceedings interestedly. You’ll tell me if you notice anything I don’t? Yes. 7 hours ago, Ookla the Inquisitive said: Template does indeed back away, trying not to be transformed into a pile of water or something. The gasoline fountain once again becomes a satisfying pillar of fire. The normal fountain doesn’t do too much, although some of it does boils off. But when Rebus hits it with a piece of sodium, burning metal flies is all directions, then, landing in the bottom pool of water, explodes again. “Do we want something more interactive than that? Or maybe simply more impressive?” Rebus asks, smiling a bit dangerously. Rebus shrugs, then sends a new letter to Onyx asking about the Narration forbidding rules in his realm, and the other policies it has. He’s interested in visiting, apparently, and would rather not lose all his powers by doing anything rash. He asks specifically about the destruction of property charges he could incur by, say, opening a portal to the sun and melting everything within a mile to fight those small mosquito things. “I can do that. I promise to do that.” Kion is solemn and determined. “I don’t care how much magic it takes. I will free you from this terrible place, even if it costs me my own life.” Jilu abruptly disappeared and appeared as a witness in the Great Wizard’s trial. 16 hours ago, Ookla the Bacon said: The letter was absent of tips on how to be a Narrator. Presumably, Onyx figured that it would come naturally. "Safe? How can you be safe?" "ABF?" "AGFM?" Well, now that you know what it is, what are you going to do about it? "You'll have to forgive me," said Bacon thoughtfully. "For some reason, my memory seems to be on the fritz. Did you say you have an answer?" Tenth thought for a moment. It is obviously not in your body, so it is not essential to my survival. I want it out. Maybe one of the Ennullers remembered something about a specialty method of doing this that the unnamed mystic mentioned when securing compensation for Tenth.

He discovered the existence of the two most dangerous Plotblades and attempted to find them in secret so as to protect the Thread, telling no one, not even his fellow council members of his actions. His actions were discovered, and the Brave Adventurer, leader of the order and a very shifty fellow, was able to get the Great Wizard removed from the council and declared a fugitive thanks to a very conveniently worded letter from the Dreamsmith that implied the GW was attempting to claim the Blades for himself. Some people on an adventure snuck into the council room while this was going on and caused a fight as they escaped, then met up with the GW and planned to help him find the Plotblades before they fell into the wrong hands (read: any hands). Before they could start on that, the Brave Adventurers caught up, and the ensuing battle ended with the party scattered, the Great Wizard captured, and several brave adventurers dead. Now the GW is on trial to determine the extent and true nature of his crimes, and all is progressing as the Brave Adventurer planned. A hush spread over the watching crowd as the Great Wizard was led into the room, hands chained with glowing lines of magic, two dozen guards surrounding him. The imprisoned old man walked slowly to the Chair of the Accused, where he was locked in place with enchanted chains. Before him sat the council of the Brave Adventurers. The General, an imposing Ghanderflaffle wearing full ceremonial armor. The Valiant One, a young man who glared at the Great Wizard with the anger of one who has been betrayed. The Unseeable Thief, glancing from side to side as if expecting an attack at any moment. The Wise Scholar, head bowed. The Ancient Flaffle, a grandmotherly Ghanderflaffle in a simple brown dress. The Silent Hero, an impassive, implacable man who stared at the prisoner with an unreadable face. The Wise Judge, a thin man with round glasses and thin gray hair, wearing the robes of his station. And the Brave Adventurer, a short man with perfectly groomed blond hair dressed in a black suit. He sat polishing his iridescent pocketwatch, face filled with self-satisfaction. The Wise Judge stood up, gripping his gavel tightly. "Are both sides prepared to make arguments? Who stands to accuse the defendant?" An adventurer rose from a table beside the Chair of the Accused. "I am, your Honor. We are ready for the trial to begin." "Very well. And the defense?" The Wise Judge turned his gaze to the table of the defense. "That's us." ... whispered to Selppaenip. "Stand and acknowledge that you are the defense and that we are ready for the trial to begin." Platypus was there, but his Author would be heading to a swim meet and would not be able to do stuff for a while.

The voice , that once sounded as if trying to intimidate, now sounds genuinely curious. "Your kind, don't normally treat me with such care when asking questions."
