Intellect glared. He twisted his influence to them, and they felt an overpowering, insane, horrible urge to study the world around them. They lost all interest in anything around them, and felt content with starving to death while doing so. He raised a hand, and dropped his defenses against Madness against them.
Fools.

Madness saw the defenses drop and immediately invaded their minds. She gave them separate minds, both loyal servants to her. Before anything could happen, Intellect stepped in and returned his protection. They returned to normal, but Intellect kept their thirst for knowledge.

How… Dare… You…

Zanitar just looked at him, deadpan.

"Was that supposed to do something? And attempting to change my thoughts against my will? And you're supposed to be the good guy? It sure would be a shame if I were to have the protection of the gods against mental manipulation, so it didn't work, wouldn't it?"

Then he muttered, "and yet I still can't speak rabbit."

Wait, what had they been doing before Sasha showed up? Shoe thought for a moment.

Oh!

"Oh, yeah," said Nogard. "Well, this Madness character sounds like she's not going to be terribly cooperative. And it seems like it'll also be a challenge to get the Brave Adventurer to agree to not try and use the power of the Plotblades, considering."

Intellect grinned. Of which gods do you speak? It is funny of you to assume I cannot counter them. This is not mental manipulation. We are your mind. You see what we wish you to see, and you think what we wish you to think. Intellect spat, and Zanitar could feel it hit him. You may think nothing happened. But where did you get that pencil? And what are those lines in the ground? Calculations, it seems.

I am not the good one. She was betrayed, and now I am the only one left to contend against Madness. He scowled, and the skies suddenly began dropping blades, ripping into Zanitar’s skin and tearing him asunder. The air turned toxic, biting into his skin. Zanitar could feel himself die. Yet it still continued. For years, it seemed. It never let up.

Zanitar came to, writhing on the ground, bleeding with the pencil he had been holding impaling his skin.

Beosta reluctantly headed that way, since Livetha didn’t seem to be having any changes of heart.

See my earlier points :P.

Also I don't think it counts as action if the involved parties are both ignoring the other person's attacks.

Zanitar continued looking at him. "The gods. The ones that control everything. While in TLT, you are controlled by a god. I am controlled by a god. Some of us know the true nature of TLT. I cannot tell you what most refer to them as, because there are some here who do not know the true nature of TLT. Their god has chosen that for them."

"It's not that I think nothing happened to me, nothing did happen to me. What pencil? I have no pencil! What lines? Besides what was basically called a diagram of this 'Archstone' you speak of, there are no lines."

He turned to walk away, but then decided he wasn't done.

"If you're here to fight Madness, then go contend against her elsewhere! We didn't ask for your help! Take her and yourself back to where you belong. You claim to be so powerful, but you can't even hurt Madness at all? All you can do is shelter us? I don't need your shelter."

Then, through the power of one of the gods controlling TLT, he cast Intellect out of his mind.

"Why. Not." Platypus forced out in a growl. "I say the trials are finished, or I can fight you for my last one. Your choice."

As the link broke, Subversion could hear Hacob laughing.

Zanitar looked at the group, memorizing the people that could claim the Blades.

*cough* "except Endings." *cough* Hacob muttered.

“I-I just can’t! I’m sorry, could you please come back tomorrow?” The misty being was clearly terrified. Listen, I don’t care how much you’ll pay me, it’s not worth what he’ll do to me! You told me this would be easy, that the assassins would kill anyone who tried to seek the Dreamsmith. You didn’t tell me someone like this would come through!

Subversion appeared next to Hacob, grey eyes burning with wrath. “So, Endings is dangerous? Well, I’m sure you’ll love it when I ran that Blade through your chest! Now shut up, unless you want me to start getting creative.” She vanished, not caring what Hacob’s response was, only that he left her alone.

"Ah!" said Selppaenip. "So we must destroy them?"

Nogard brightened as Subversion reappeared.

Nogard made a pensive expression. "A lot of the people the Great Wizard mentioned are here right now, in our party. Does that mean we're supposed to watch ourselves? I suppose, with so many potential wielders, the chances that we find the blade are fairly high."

He thought some more, standing up and beginning to pace. He looked to the Great Wizard. "There were a few people you mentioned I haven't heard of. Madness. The Dreamsmith. The Valiant One. The Witherlord. Who are they?"

The Great Wizard pointed to the slideshow rabbits. “The Valiant One is a great hero, and a member of the Brave Adventurers.” A picture of the Valiant One appeared. “Madness… I have not heard this name either.” A picture of static appeared. “The Dreamsmith is a magical being who makes weapons for those who seek him out.” A picture of a man with a mechanical jaw and a grey scar across his chest appeared. “And the Witherlord…” utter darkness consumed the slideshow. “The slayer of Luxsprites, Lord of Darkness, the one who caused TLT’s birth. He is a great evil, and I very much doubt that he will join up with us.”

Subversion appeared next to Nogard and smiled at him, the shadows of her dress seeming to lighten slightly. “Hey! You doing alright? Hacob hasn’t spoken to you, has he?”

Hey hey hey! Neither am I! You don’t have to do exactly what I say, but please. At least acknowledge that some part of you is betraying your greater will. This is complete retaliation to y’all telling me that your characters can immediately destroy mine at will.

(and please understand. I’m not actually arguing with you. It’s hard to transmit the usual joking tone I nearly always adopt. [it’s my child, of course])

Intellect is unable to leave, but withdrew his influence. Madness is the most powerful of us. I am fighting a losing battle against her, he said. And then a flying wombat appeared and took him away. He was kinda strange.

Ista rolled her eyes. “Please. Let’s get back to our quest, and just be wary of Madness.”

Shoe thought that those people sounded quite odd.

Wait, haven't we met the Witherlord before? he thought.

Perhaps he was thinking of the wrong person.

“I know Madness. She is what she sounds like. Her goal is to conquer, not just our world, but every other one as well. She has no set shape, but she will always take the form of whatever will drive her victims the most insane. For my friend, she appeared as his mother, whom he had abandoned and then consequently died.”
Ista gestures to the diagram of the Archstone.

“That is how she focuses her power.” The diagram was maddening, no organization, nothing but a jumble of logic near impossible to follow.

"I asked you a question. Why. Not?"

Platypus stepped forward, eyes grim, looking like an apex predator on the hunt. Now his Blades were inches away from the misty being.

"I can hear your thoughts. Who are you talking to? Why can't I talk to the Dreamsmith"?

Hacob shook his head, confused. He didn't know why she was so angry all of a sudden. This was extreme, even for Subsy!

"Can you go back to the Valiant One? Is that a live feed?"

did I ever say that? If so, sorry about that. I don't mean it like that.

Also, Zanitar is directly controlled by me, his Author. Unlike most characters, who kind of have their own decisions and are given knowledge by their Author (by my understanding at least), he is directly controlled by me. Basically a front for me in the world.

And that was a harsh reaction by me. I'm sensitive to what I perceive as godmodding, because I used to do it, and I don't like it. Sorry about that.
