Nameless glanced around, looking for the source of the voice, but he could see nothing. "I see. Well then, I suppose I must-" Nameless winced as he opened his hand and let Shar disappear to mist. "This- *grunt* hurts- a bit *wince* more than I antici-" Nameless collapsed to his knees, stretching, before bursting apart into energy before recollecting himself. "Good day to you X, Vapid. How can I help?"

"You're not substantial enough," whispered the voice. "Your body still lives..."

"Body?" Nameless grinned. "I'm afraid you are mistaken. My body is currently quite dead. Shar hasn't finished repairing the link between my body and my soul, and in the meantime he was acting as a "bridge" of sorts. Keeping me alive. Now that I've dismissed him, I am as dead as you can get without going to the Beyond.

Melody is curled in the fetal position on the floor. Her head is hidden between her knees, and she slowly shakes her head, tears dripping down her face and onto the black ground. She seems to be trying to block out the world around her, but it is failing, for the whispers penetrate all. "You're not good enough." "You don't deserve to be on this quest." "The world is ending and you can't stop it." "Death is inevitable, and your friends will be the ones to cause yours." "You can't trust anyone."

Schrodinger realized that these monsters were the ones that were causing Melody's negativity, and said so to his twin.

"Melody," whispered X's avatar, putting his hand on her shoulder. "It's alright. I'm here."

"Of what? my life? I told you, I'm dead. I have no connection to my body." Nameless glanced at X. "Or do just want X to do this by himself? Melody did ask for me, if you remember."

"It is recovering," whispered the spirit. "Pulling you back. It calls for you..."

"My body is doing nothing but being dead. All that was repairing it was Shar, and he had made no real progress. I have no bonds, and Melody is in need of help, and you will NOT stop me from helping her." Nameless ripped himself free of all physical bonds, appearing next to X, before collapsing to the ground, exhausted.

Author Void reminisced about the glory days.

”Ah, the insanity,” Nebula said. “Such a joy.”

One thread still lingered.

"If you do this," warned the voice, "you can never return. Cut that thread, and you will strand yourself in the deep layers of the Land of Dreams." Wind whistled around his not-quite-substantial form. "Your sword will not be able to pull you back."

"Well, I have been meaning to go on vacation in TST..." Nameless summoned his Narrationblade, cutting the final thread connecting him to life.

Fate chuckled. "So be it, Unnamed One."

Nameless felt his body coalesce and gasped involuntarily, falling to his knees.

"So this is death, huh?" he muttered to himself. "Not so bad, really."

He stood up, taking a couple of steps over to where X's avatar knelt by Melody.

"Is she okay?" he said quietly.

X's avatar sighed. "I... I don't know. She's in a lot of pain."

"I mean, minor godmodding, but okay." Nameless rolled his eyes. "Have you tried asking her how she is? Hey @Condensation, are you okay? How are you feeling?"

"I don't think she's in a state to respond, currently." said X's avatar. "The demons have her..."

He looked up, staring into the inhuman eyes that lurked just beyond the spotlight.

"Cursed demons," he muttered. "Nameless, you mind taking them out for me?"

Nameless grinned. "With pleasure." He stuck his hand out to summon his blade.

A second passed and nothing happened.

"Not going to work," X's avatar said wryly. "You left that behind when you abandoned your life."

Nameless grin faded. "...what? What am I supposed to use, then?"

X's avatar shrugged. "Here." He made a motion with one of his hands, bending the light into a sword. He tossed it to Nameless. "Try this."

Nameless caught the blade, inspecting it critically. "You think this could take down demons?" he said skeptically. "It's weaker than paper."

"Try it," said X's avatar. "You might be surprised."

Nameless sighed and turned to swing it at the enemy. "Alright, but don't blame me if it-"

He was interrupted by an inhuman scream. Bright flame burst from the point where Nameless's blade met monster substance.

"Huh," he said, somewhat stupefied. "It works."

Nameless scowled at X. "Can you please not godmod me? I wouldn't have tried to summon Shar, he's busy, and I wanted to use this instead." He tossed aside the sword made of light and summoned his Narrationblade, chopping through the demons like warm butter.

Good explanation, xino! Sorry, my brother was doing his computer time.

Melody seemed to get better, relaxing infinitesimally for each demon vanquished.

The world ripples, like a dream...

Nameless chopped monster after monster with a sword made of light, silently wondering to himself why his Narrationblade would fail to materialize.

X's avatar's words echoed in his mind. You left that behind when you abandoned your life. What did that mean? Surely, he was still a Narrator, even if he was dead, right?

It doesn't matter, he thought to himself. Even if is... repressed... I'll get it back when I return through TST. For sure.

Fate chuckled. "You are mine, Nameless," he hissed.

X breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness," he said. "She's getting better."

"Great!" called Nameless. "Does that mean I can stop slaying demons now?"

X shook his head. "There's still a lot preying on her. They might leave of their own volition if you kill enough of them, but they aren't quite scared enough yet."

Nameless glared at X. "That's it. Stop it right now, or else these demons will be the least you have to worry about. If you intend to change the rules, you can tell me. Don't force me to act as I wouldn't." He summoned his Narrationblade. He had died before, and he was still a narrator then. This was no different.

The world ripples.

X's avatar frowns and looks up, confused. "A conflict," he said. "The world is becoming unstable. Someone must be challenging Fate."

"...what?" said Nameless, still hacking away at the monsters. "I don't quite follow."

"To be perfectly honest," said X's avatar, "I don't either." He looked down at Melody anxiously.

Come on, he thought worriedly. Please, wake up... before its too late.

"I told you," said Fate. "You need more than death to enter this realm."

"Seriously, stop. Half of the stuff you are making me do I would have done myself, and the other half I would never do." Nameless continued fighting demons. It had been a long time since he had used his Narrationblade in combat, but if anything his time with Shar had only made him more proficient with it. No demon could get close to him with their claws, and they all seemed to be... slower, somehow. Ah, I'm just remembering my fight with Y. She's the last person who's challenged me in a honest duel since... since ever.

After hesitating a few more seconds to make you all more tense . . . I shall pause for me to eat dinner, feel free to continue while I'm gone.

Melody's eyes fluttered open and she moaned. "What happened? Where am I?" However, she was still in the dream, so her physical self stayed asleep. She looked around at the dark world, the monsters being vanquished by Nameless, the bright spotlight, and finally on Mr. No-Name. Her eyes narrowed in confusion. "What are we doing here? Am I still dreaming? If so, why are you guys in my dream?"

The demons pulled back. Nameless dismissed his Narrationblade, then slumped forward, hands on his knees. So tired. He didn't know how long he had fought for. Should he be this tired? He turned to look at  Melody, and was happy to see X helping her to her feet. he straightened, and walked over to them, refusing to show any more outward signs of his exhaustion.

"You're in the Land of Dreams," said X's avatar. "Some Nightmare demons got ahold of your mind and trapped you here." He raised his hand. "Never mind how we got here. Now... WAKE UP!"

He brought his hand down and Melody vanished, her spirit returning to her body.

X's avatar sighed. "Alright, Nameless. You can stop fighting."

"At last," said Nameless, grumbling. He tossed the blade of light back to X's avatar. "So... what now?"

"Your actions have consequences, you know," said Fate.

Nameless walked over to X. "She's gone then? All right. I guess we'll continue this in the land of dreams, then. You start narrating there, I'm going to... make sure that Melody doesn't come back." He looked at X, and though his posture was normal, his eyes were tired. More tired than X had ever seen them.

This is my way of saying you need to post on TST first, I've got the last post there.

Melody woke up with a gasp in the physical world, her positive spirit restored. "Wait. Where are the others?" She saw the bodies on the ground and burst out crying. "What--what happened? Why are they d--dead?"

I can't remember if anyone is still here or not. Schrodinger's asleep, X is dead, Vapid's dead, Nameless is dead, who else?
