"And I always keep my word."

“Well that-“ he points to Crusade- “looks like a weapon. And you-“ he points to Atreides- “just called someone else your master, so excuse me if I’m not entirely impressed with your claim to rule. Better to appreciate life’s fleeting beauty than to try and pin it down and wrestle it into submission.” He fingers the spheres. “Like these. Look how pretty they are. Pale, pale white, and dark, dark grey. Look how the shadows spin across them. Beautiful.” He looks up at Atreides. “All else pales in comparison.”

Inkwell is disinterested. “Yeah, so, I’ve already done the whole ‘Malevolence boss battle’ and that was fun and all but I’m not interested. Cool sword by the way, I wanna make one of those someday.” He popped the spheres into his mouth and swallowed. Sure enough, he felt a reserve of metals in his stomach that burned at his mental touch, a lerasium-steel alloy, which gave him temporary access to the steel which he had swallowed. He flared it, pressing on the blue line that led to Crusade, then slashed a rift in the air before him and stepped through as the sword flew off into the trees.

Atreides cursed, not expecting the movement. Crusade slammed into a stone, wedging itself firmly in the stone. He stalked over. Inkwell had escape.

"Heh." he spat. "Clever. You can go for now. I must talk to Malevolence. Next time we meet though . . ."

He reached down, seizing Crusade and drawing it from the stone.

The Guardian's Magenta head let out a shrill laugh that echoed throughout the battlefield. Malevolence's predicament was quite unfortunate.

"I would've offered for you to join the Guardians of the Plot," Center head hissed at his crippled form, "but it doesn't look like you're quite fit for the cut."

The Guardian's strong strike landed nearby. Magenta shot up some lightning, which arched to the sky and back again. Holding the blade in both hands, he charged with a feral rage, swinging blindly whilest the lightning rained down.

Lmk if I still need to reply to anyone

Malevolence met the Guardian's onslaught, spinning Darkseeker artfully as he deflected blow after blow. Despite his skill, he was unable to do more than hold off its blows. He stumbled backwards, cursing softly as his footing was made unstable by Fog's trickery.

Fog sighed. She knew it wouldn't be that easy, but regardless, watching him be crushed would have been very satisfying.

So boring, she sighed, feeling increasingly apathetic for some reason.

No, not for just some reason, she corrected herself.

Mordite shot from the ground every time he stepped, grabbed onto his feet well enough to at least make him stumble, while at most trapping his foot and growing up his leg as it attempted to encase him.

You can leave, you know. Malevolence pointed out. Inkwell got away just fine. The Guardian will likely allow it since you have not attacked him, and I will certainly not chase you. I am satisfied with my performance thus far. Rebus is far behind in our competition.

A drone appeared next to Atreides. "You wanted to talk with me?" Malevolence sounded tired and out of breath. "I'm rather busy at the moment, so make it quick."

She floated lazily above him as the stumbling blocks became sharper to impale his feet.

She shrugged.

Not yet. It's fun to antagonize you.

With a flash of lightning, the Guardian lunged forward, grabbing him by the throat and lifting him up off the ground. The Magenta head let out a growl.

"Malevolence..." Center head said, "Join us..."

Green fire started to trickle up the arm that was holding Malevolence, slowly but surely making its way towards the hand that held the Withergeist.

"Become one of the Guardians of the Plot..." Magenta added, sizzling with electric power.

"It is our Prophecy..." Center said, "We need more capable fighters like you to regather the remnants of the Plot."

"Join us!" Magenta and Center both screamed in unison.

Inkwell hesitantly emerged from the rift some good distance away from Malevolence and the Guardian. The guardian had grown a second head and was sporting a wicked magenta and green color scheme that gave off strong Arcadian vibes. Inkwell approved. Near him, an explosion had destroyed the top half of Malevolence’s armor, spraying the ground with mordite shrapnel even as the rest of the suit teleported away. Inkwell cautiously unclipped the empty explosive powder pouch from his belt and used it to pick up a mordite shard. He tightened the pouch and clipped it on his belt. The temporary abilities of a Coinshot disappeared, spooking him. He immediately cut another rift, to a new place, nestled in a valley near the base of a mountain, and hurriedly left the arena.

In retrospect, if he had been you’d have described a gun.
Rebus smiled. “I think I will bet on the super-soldier.” Then he stood there, seeming completely taken by surprise until Kyler was almost close enough to touch. Moving perhaps a dozen times faster than his opponent, Rebus stepped sideways and stuck out his arm to clothesline the other supersoldier.

Asharak stiffened. He left an avatar of himself in his place to continue speaking with Rebus, and retreated into the Mindscape.

To clarify, my idea, if you think this might work, is to have him use the Mindscape as a connection point to keep himself out of Rebus's control while hunting down and driving out the nanomachines in his body.

It was a very long time ago. Before the duel. Before even the party when it was declared.

Rebus spoke in Cricket’s mind. Now, before you try to report this, I’d like to inform you I can kill Rose at any time.

That had been the beginning. The very moment, perhaps, that Cricket made it his very purpose to kill Rebus.

-

The nanomachines immediately began trying to fully hotwire Asharak’s brain and isolate the Mindscape.

Yeah, that could work.

So the two adventurers travelled, and surprisingly (for TLT at least) the forest granted their request. Their journey was both boring and swift, as in a few hour's time they found themselves standing outside of a rather rundown building at the outskirts of the forest. A sign on the wall proudly proclaimed the establishment's esteemed name: Good ol' Gen'ral Store.

Lyric ended his singing with a final refrain of: "April iiis indeed, the month, be-fore May." He peered into the shop's darkened windows, then looked up at the sky, which was quickly becoming the same. "Hello?" He called. "Fine owner of this store, are you there?"

I've got a shopkeeper lined up, tomorrow.

Jack was glad things had gone as well as they did, though perhaps that was a sign of further troubles to come. Troubles like having thrown his money at an insane mall-dweller… He quickly checked his pockets, and was relieved to discover everything but the oil-can still present.

Omen also knew all about chaos. The Dreamsmith had told him of it, days before plot became commonplace. Meat had been listening, in fact. Since danger was great, and kelp and sea slugs clearly belonged in the ocean, they were. Omen would probably be fine - Meat had no money, after all, and couldn’t pay his - but Mischief might be just like the music.

The smear of ink within the sketchbook uncoiled, slithering its way into the bindings to hide. Nothing else happened - Inkwell had a tendency to remain synchronous and escape, which demanded an even slower burn than usual.
