Rebus nodded. "Atlas isn't mad, though she might be swinging back too far. Ryna I have not seen in some time."

-

"Knowing me, I would have immediately tried to replicate it - to get you back, reunite with Symbol from a timeline I died instead, then find other mes and other resources. From my absence, and what you just said, I conclude that-" Rebus pointed at the timeline- "refers to me. If it doesn't, replicating what happened from where it actually occurred is incredibly difficult or time consuming - even with magic this will not be easy."

-

"That is quite understandable."

-

Rebus did the same.

-

"Of course not - the capacity to simulate the emotions of others in a requirement for empathy. When imagining a close friend, many people can extrapolate their feelings and reactions in various situations. And many actors do the same with the roles, getting fully into the character of a fictional person."

elinore nods. "Well ryna does not like yoj. And im inclined to side with her. You may stay on the ship woth rebyl but dk not go near ryna."

-

She looked at the timeline and sat down with a sigh. "Truth is i dunno if your dead." She tapped her fingers against her table. "I cant remember much of it. I mean... would it help if you knew what went wrong? And what exactly we were testing?"

-

He nodded as they got to the center. He scanned an id and walked in.

-

atlas nodded "fascinating." she didnt fully understand what rebus said. For she was in fact still a child.

Alli grabbed his head while he was on the ground and inspected 9/10.

9/10mmHB#2 appears to have sustained a concussion from repeated blunt force trauma to the head. He looks up at Alli, who he sees as a dog with strands of purple entwined in its fur. He opens his mouth. “Hi, puppy!”, his mouth says. What was that? He tried again. “I just stole this body officer, and I’m taking it for a ride!” Something is clearly not right in his brain. He remembers he has to kill the girl. What girl? There’s a cute puppy dog looking at him, though? Where’d Inkwell go, anyway?

Her eyes widened.

"Inkwell?"

She healed the head trauma.

Suddenly, Inkwell feels as if he’s just woken up from a deep sleep. Rested. Energized. Excited. There are two things in his head that shouldn’t be there. He shoves them, one starts to slip from his mind, the other clings stubbornly  but submits control. @DragonHeir

Rebus swept a hand out, utility fog dropping the Blade into his hand.

"Of course," Rebus said, though it was possible Ribbon had gone. "I would die, more or less, without plot relevance. And half the Thread might break with me."

It did not, but Jack did not question it. "If you do not need to rest, I suppose we should get going."

-

I approve, Rebus broadcast.

Is that a plot device? Allusion could work, actually...

Rebus began to speak, only for Inkwell to flee.

It did? Where'd the pieces go?

Asking for a friend.

Meat is literally the product of a fever dream, and since I seem to be coming down with a cold, I'll be in top shape to write him.

The shrieking echoed around the cave, harmonizing with itself. Meat played the beginning of Eye of the Tiger on the bread, and a slowly descending slide whistle could be heard.

Rebus was abruptly covered in ink, the plot progressing too fast for him to escape before it was gone again and he had his armor back. Except... there was one line left in the notebook, a tiny piece of the drawing that refused to fade. Nothing more, of course - Rebus had too many things to do to be interrupting an active battle.

Rebus nodded, and Elinore could feel him recall a similar emotion. "I have magical senses too - not for feelings, but events. I might be able to help you, though it's not quite the same thing and you should never trust me all the way."

-

Rebus sighed, smiling at the pictures. He waited, fairly certain that Rebyl would tell him what she needed.

-

Rebus smiled. "I can take it. 'May I have your name' and all that lets me make bargains paid with abstract concepts."

-

"I'll be here." Rebus smiled. "Relatable, escapist, interesting - and evil, of course."

-

"We can." Rebus smiled, glad to have a chance to explain this once more. His Author really needed to get on that metafictional philosophy essay. "It's thanks to empathy and method acting. Fully written characters have personalities - the Authors, or at least mine, imagine simulations of us; think our thoughts and feel our feelings."

I think Atreides has them actually

im sure you could get them from him tho

She looked about herself, frowning.

“Gotta say,” she said to no one in particular, “this is not what I was expecting to find upon my release.”

She glanced over at Alli.

“Who is fighting who?”

True, true

Matter of fact

His Author was a little slow on ideas, so Dark Cep Narrated them adjacent to the brawl, assuming Rebus didn't try to stop him.

"Of course. I would not expect it for free. Yet I would prefer to set the terms now—I know your skill in manipulating deals, and would not like to be left in your debt open-ended."

Rebus was fine with that - while his Author would soon sleep, until then brawling would be a worthwhile activity.

"That is wise of you - what, perhaps, would you offer?"

That made sense, though it did not bode well for the revelation she'd had.

This was correct, though not because it had been stated. "I suspect we shall speak again soon - for should you need help, I can likely provide it. Strings attached, of course, but perhaps you can spin that to your advantage."

Incidentally, Rebus had just physically appeared near the brawl.

“9/10mmHB#2 is on his anime villain arc, but he’s still an idiot. And Rebus showed up in there. He thinks I’m his protagonist now, which is great, because I don’t want to be. Anyways, 9/10 still owns the body right now, but he’s out cold from the concussion. Thanks for that, by the way, I have control until he wakes up now.”

He looks at the newcomer. “Hi. Please don’t kill me. What’s your name?”

“We tried to get rid of it. Usually that’s my body, and it’s in the passenger, but something went wrong. Now I’m in the passenger, it’s slumped over the wheel, and I’m reaching over and hitting the brakes. I hate to give it its own body… but it has mine, now. If we can, we need to get it out of the car, even if it gives him narrative agency.” He looks up. Rebus is now joining the brawl. Of course. “Fog, where’s the pen?”, he yells, suddenly noticing its absence.

She'd dissolved the pen into her being. She didn't respond either, nor could he see where she was.

Which of course proceeded to fry.

This made very much sense, for he was indeed himself. This was a problem, of course - making sense was not nonsense, which would prevent him from buying particular types of bread. This would, in turn, interfere with the music.

It would seem @NameIess had much to say, and for time to progress, all authors would have to wait for him.

instead, Queen Elizabeth III materialized next to Mischief, also dressed in year old fish. She would glow as well, except she was far too old to glow. 167 years, which was coincidentally as long as it would take @NameIessto hurry up and kill someone.

i am not being subtle enough.

Queen Elizabeth III is granted by the authors a Fender Stratobagguette, the ultimate bread. She begins to shred a bread solo, nailing the intro to Sleep Token’s Gods, a reference so vile that the air itself transforms into vanilla pudding at the molecular level. She has not yet begun to scream.
Let’s try harder.
Queen Elizabeth III, completely engrossed in the music, abandons all queenly decorum and begins screaming. She uses a false cord which should not be possible by a 167 year old woman, and also is the incorrect variant of metal scream for this song. Regardless, she begins screaming. The entire Thread shakes under the pressure of her vocal gymnastics. It is at this time that the dogs, attracted by her inadvertent mating call, begin feasting on the fish and pudding.
