She tilted her head again.

"That's a nice sword you got there."

"I don't have a sword at all. I used a rose petal on you."

I don’t know exactly what he is. I made Inkwell at the Clearing, then when I brought him here, it showed up. Its purpose was to keep me from overwhelming the Thread. He is more aware of the Thread than Inkwell, but less powerful. He can’t exist without a character to latch on to, like a parasite, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be Inkwell. He’s obsessed with the idea of order and restoring the Plot, so I guess he’s lawful neutral or lawful evil?

hmm

He just sounds like a Thread-aware character

A character who knows about the Thread but doesn't have the power to manipulate it in the way a Narrator does

". . . Ah, I remember now. Inkwell had a sword. Regardless, may I see the petal?"

Ribbon brought back the petal from fading and handed it to Fog. It was completely unremarkable.

It dissolved in her hand once she grasped it.

"Interesting. What else can you make?"

She performed an elaborate hand gesture and a ribbon-like thread appeared in her hand.

She didn't seem impressed.

"Anything else?"

"I'd have to be fighting to do much else."

Good, I can decide whether or not to make a Narrator later.

Spoiler

A relief.

“I told you,” Inkwell said. “Why don’t you go live your own life?”

Spoiler

We need to find out why I am a part of you now. Now that I think of it, I have no memory of existing before…

“The dog,” they both said.

"I'm sure we could find someone. What sorts of things can you summon in combat?"

Screams continued in the distant woods. Someone was crying out for help.

She shrugged. "I can create terrain when I fight. I shape the world when I fight."

"Oh? Why is that, do you think?"

"I was created by a narrator, so I can't possibly be one!" She snapped.

". . . Yes, you can," she said darkly, suddenly serious for some reason.

"I can't. There's no way. Rirrom is still alive. He is still a narrator. He created me to kill him, because he hates narrators. He would never make me one."

Inkwell looked down at the sword in his hands. Ten years of cosplaying and a month long hyperfixation on fencing YouTube videos had better be good enough. He took off into the woods towards the sound, thorns ripping at his jeans, pine needles crunching softly under his sneakers. He discarded the mask as he ran. “What were you thinking with the mask? So melodramatic.”

Spoiler

I haven’t seen you come up with any better ideas, 9/10mmHB#2 thought.

He pictured a jacket, blue, hooded, plates of lightweight armor sewn between layers of cloth. A raven embroidered on the left breast. He added a belt with a sheath and ran faster.

9/10mmHB#2 pronounced the word “Harrumph.”

Her mist swirled violently. She didn't respond.

Someone hung from a tree, upside-down, in a body bag.

"HELP! ANYONE? HELLO?!" they screamed.

She calmed herself after a moment.

". . . Not exactly. It's nothing."

"Either way, I'm not a Narrator, so that doesn't matter. If I was a narrator, I could just eliminate you from the thread via lightning strike or something."

"I see . . ." she said skeptically.

The mist of her being changed to rose petals.

"May I see that ribbon?"

Inkwell blinked, standing before the tree with the body bag. “Uh. Hi. I could cut you down… but not sure how to do that without dropping you on your head.” Physical power was never Inkwell’s strong suit.

"I DON'T CARE HOW YOU DO IT! JUST GET ME DOWN!!"
