Cadewyn's vision flashed black, and a force shoved him back from the gate. When his vision cleared, it revealed a gate with a broken lock, as well as several broken bars around where Resolution had struck. However, where the physical bars had broken, bars of solid darkness took their place.

"That's... interesting." Unintelligible stepped through softly rustling grass, walking up beside Cadewyn and frowning at the bars of darkness. "I suppose it means we're in the right place. Do you think you could get through that darkness? Or... Wait. Ryver, can you make a portal to get us past the gate? There might be defenses against it, but I have a feeling they'll be easier to bypass than the gate."

I don't remember, is it night or day here?

"I could just fly over the gate." Cadewyn stood and sheathed Resolution, then poked at the darkness. "What is this stuff anyway?"

"Some sort of chaotic dark energy, most likely." Unintelligible reached to the ground and grabbed a rock. "I second Aelinor's suggestion. It probably isn't good to touch it." He threw the rock over the gate. There was a flash of darkness, and the rock rebounded off of something invisible, hit the ground, and dissolved into nothing.

Unintelligible grimaced. "Yeah, I don't think flying over it will work. We can try Conflict, if Ryver can't make a portal past the gate."

Cadewyn snatched his hand back, then started pushing blue flames against the bars, curiously.

"I can try. There's not much sunlight here. And this medallion is only supposed to go between worlds. Though... " he stepped up to the gate and looked at it long and hard, solidifying the image of the grounds past the gate. "Ok, ill try this."

He opened a portal back to his apartment and stepped through, then closed it and tried to open one to the yard past the gate.

It would be tough, but Subversion didn't cheap out on the medallion. And it works across short distances too. (forgot to answer this earlier, it's daytime. Although there is a bit of an unnatural gloom around the mansion and its grounds)

The flames that touched the bars grew more violent, darker, then were consumed. The bars thickened, absorbing the flame's power.

A portal partially opened in front of Ryver, then stopped. He could feel a force opposing the portal, but it did feel like he could push past it, with effort.

Ah, got it. I thought it would only work between worlds. Thanks for clarifying! and thanks for the day time answer!

Cadewyn jerked back again warily. He stopped messing with the bars.

Ryver grabbed the edges of the portal and pushed it open a bit more, then stepped through onto the lawn.

"It works! Here, come through." With effort, he opened a portal between this side of the gate and the other, letting the others in.

Ha! This is as good a time I will get to introduce my character!

Suddenly, someone was standing behind the others as they stepped through the portal. She was a slight young woman with a wiry build, a dark pixie cut, mismatched blue-and-gold eyes, and a thin scar on her cheek, her satchel of notes resting against her side.

With a sharp crack of lightning, Malevolence appeared in front of the Trisolaran ships. He held a Shardblade sheathed in aluminum, and the Bondsmith Honorblade was held by a tractor beam emitted from a drone beside him. "I have succeeded." He announced. "This Awakened blade is capable of granting the surges of Tension and Adhesion."

"I will need other Honorblades then, as a model for the surges. A Skybreaker blade and a Stoneward blade should do the trick." With his free hand, Malevolence pulled a tablet from his lab coat. "I'm afraid this Blade does not grant Bondsmithing, merely the lesser applications of the surges. As for the dragon blood, I was more successful in that area than I thought." The villain tapped the tablet, causing two large crates, glowing with an indeterminate energy, to appear. "These crates contain a breeding pair of dragons, from which you can harvest blood. I've included instructions on feeding and care, although you should know they are sentient and not particularly inclined towards lives of captivity. I'm certain you can find workarounds for this." Malevolence smiled. "Now, I believe I have shown the capability to fulfill all of your requests. Now strikes me as a good time to discuss my payment."

"I... will get you these Honorblades when I return to Battle for the Sandwich," Sandy said. "These dragons are far smaller than what we'd expect, and a single pair will mean low genetic diversity. As for your payment, we can give you detailed instructions on how to negate the electromagnetic force in an area of your choosing, and how to create SIM with this. We can also give you instructions on how to unfold baryons and turn them into sophons. We can give you the secrets of curving spacetime. We can also give you all our Dark Forest weapons, though I doubt you'll use them."

I was pretty unspecific on the size of the crates, but when I said 'large crates' I meant freight container sized. So a little small for dragons, but they're young.

Malevolence nodded. "That will be acceptable payment. As for the dragons, they are creatures with enormously long lifespans, and have a naturally low population, so they have robust genetics-scientific and magical-aiding against inbreeding. Perhaps in a few millennia you will need to find another dragon or two, but that's a bit outside the realm of my capabilities. If you wish, I can give you instructions on how to access the dragon's native worlds, but be warned. Powerful enchanters guard those worlds, and they are very opposed to the smuggling of anything related to dragon's blood.

Oh okay

Sandy nodded. "By then the Trisolarans should be well versed enough in their biology to find a solution. Now, I shall go get the other two Honorblades."

Sandy disappeared, falling into 10 dimensions.

The drone began transmitting the agreed-upon information.

Edit:

Two honorblades appeared and clattered to the ground.

A few seconds later, Sandy appeared.

"Re-entry into 3D is becoming more difficult." He picked up the Honorblades. "I recommend you don't hold them both at the same time."

Unintelligible stepped quickly up to the mansion's gravel drive, reaching the door with haste. Awkwardly due to holding Sequence, he turned and grabbed the door's knocker and knocked on the large door.

For a moment, nothing happened. Then the doors of the large mansion swung open soundlessly.

Regulus poked at his stew, remembering once more the words of his mother.

"How many times do I have to tell you! If the food's over a month old, throw it out!"

Looking down at his stew, Regulus wondered what time last month the stew was from. It was possibly still safe. The woman was distracted, so he couldn't ask her. Perhaps... he poked the something with his spoon. It didn't look too bad all things considered...

So lost in thought was he, that he missed what the man was saying. When he finally noticed the man, he blinked, looking up. "Hello? Sorry, did you say something? I missed it."

After a very long pause, Regulus eventually decided that the man was probably not going to answer him. He looked down at his 'stew', and was pleased to notice that it was now certainly over a month old, and was more mold colony than food. Carefully, he set his spoon down on the bar. "Thank you for the meal." He said politely, then stood from the counter. "You said the dragon is in a cave just outside of town? I'd best get going."

The woman, who had been standing there, a layer of dust collecting on her person, shook herself back to life with a hacking cough. When she could somewhat breathe again, the woman blinked pointedly at Regulus, and down at his 'stew'. "Ain't hungry no more boy? Well, you take care, ain't nobody wanna clean up yer remains. But yes, right outside town, or at least it was last we checked." Then, wiping down the counter where Regulus had sat, she waddled away to other customers.

Regulus hurried out of the inn and into the street. There, he dug into his pack of supplies, removed a biscuit, and ate hungrily. Fortunately for him, his mother had placed an enchantment upon the pack, keeping all the food within as fresh as when it had been placed within.

Now. He thought to himself. Time to go fight that dragon.

It should be noted that despite Regulus's extraordinary parentage, there was nothing altogether extraordinary about his own natural abilities. Traipsing off to a dragon's cave alone and with only a sword to his name was as stupid and foolhardy for him as it would be for any other hero. However, the fact that fighting dragons is extraordinarily stupid and a good way to receive a free cremation has somehow never been quite as discouraging towards men of dragon-slaying age as one would think. And in Regulus's case, he was merely doing his best to follow one of the most important pieces of advice either of his very wise parents had entrusted him with.

"Regulus," his mother had said. "Whatever you do on this quest, please just remember one thing:" She had fixed him with a firm, motherly stare at this point, the kind she tended to make when her children were partaking in activities like stealing from the cookie jar, or insisting they didn't need to change their shirt for the third day in a row. "Don't do anything stupid. Not unless you have a very good reason."

Regulus took a deep breath, then another for good measure, tightened his swordbelt, retied one of his boots, and set off towards the edge of town, determined to fight the dragon and save the kidnapped girl.

On his way out of town, and towards the cave, Regulus would have passed a rather ridiculous number of signs, all saying something along the lines of "Big ol' dragon down this way, turn around". What made the signs so useless was the entrance to said dragon cave, it loomed large and was easily seen once past the princess's mansion. You would think, before settling in an area, such large potential large reptile inhabiting caves would be at least closed up, if not a reason to not settle anywhere in the area. But for the people of the Big ol' Town, it was just another big ol' cave. At least, until the dragon decided to move in. Regardless, the entrance was dragon sized big, and had one main tunnel that sloped downwards deeper underground. The cave was dark, wet despite no water source above it, and smelled awful. Bones littered the entrance, but decreased in number the further one ventured inside. Dank, with little light, moss grew abundantly along the rock wall, missing in patches where long claws at scored it, and eventually, there was a fork in the road. . .

Bones littered the entrance, but decreased in number the further one ventured inside. Dank, with little light, moss grew abundantly along the rock wall, missing in patches where long claws at scored it, and eventually, there was a fork in the road. . .

By the time Regulus reached the fork in the tunnel, he had long since begun regretting his choice to go fight a dragon with so little preparation. He felt almost as if he'd lost all control of himself the moment he'd begun walking towards the cave, dragged along by some force or being beyond his comprehension. Still, he felt an obligation towards the maiden. Since he'd delayed so long at the inn, he did not feel it was fair to keep her waiting any longer, and so he decided to press onwards.

Regulus carefully considered the fork in the road, and thought back to a seemingly incomprehensible piece of advice he'd received from his uncle, Butt Venture.

A young Regulus, having just gotten out of bed to use the restroom, overheard the following snippet of advice from his uncle. "She's always right, eh?" Butt had said to Eof. "Never could stand to be otherwise."

For long hours, Regulus had pondered this piece of advice, never able to truly understand it. Now, however, its meaning became clear. Confident in his choice, Regulus headed off down the rightmost tunnel.

Again, it should be noted that growing up with a father capable of seeing the future who has a tendency towards giving cryptic advice that doesn't make sense until years later, has an effect on a child's understanding of conversational banter.

Placing a hand on the pommel of his sword in a way he thought looked cool, Regulus strode down the corridor of stone towards his goal.
