It doesn’t honestly have to be fundamental if we can’t find a place to put it. Maybe the gem shattered into many many pieces, each one for a magic system that exists. The biggest four related to the Fundamental Essences and are together are enough to be read, a slightly smaller one is Shaping and has the knowledge they’re looking for, and others that exist could be used to access other information and powers. Maybe one fragment from the actual gem is needed, and it can emulate missing pieces or decrypt stored information if given a piece of the relevant magic. Or maybe that’s a terrible idea and it doesn’t even relate to what the gem is supposed to be.

I was theorizing on a fifth fundamental force, similar to gravity, that can permeate a second dimension of time, causing us, who exist in the first temporal dimension, to align with the thoughts of the Authors, who exist in both, by their time weaving closer and further to ours. I commented that we would not be able to use this connection the other way to manipulate the Author's existence since we exist in linear time." 

He pauses.

Chaotic Darkness’s magic system boils down to “disintegrate everything I touch and everything in that direction”, with some additional corruption-related mechanics (turn people into withergeists through exposure to Chaotic Darkness and mess up magic systems someone corrupted already has, mainly). It messes with your mind and makes you want to destroy things, and slowly eats away at the souls of those it makes contact with, preventing wounds it inflict from being healed. Uh, and I believe one can bond with a withergeist to order them around and use the powers without being annihilated, at the cost of the slow corruption of your mind and soul, eventually making you an new withergeist. The Witherlord (the most powerful incarnation of Chaotic Darkness) has a few other powers I don’t know much about, but I’m not sure they’d be Shaping. 
That being said the Fragment of Corruption does sound like Chaotic Darkness, even if Shaping is just Chaotic, not Dark.

Very true - I think Platypus, Thread extraction devices, time travel, Essence switching, and Balancium are the only sources. But unless you’re already a Narrator, where are you gonna get Prismite?

I would probably say Chaosalloy works the best here. I'm still not sure it would, but I'm more confident it would than Mordite-Luxite.

you wouldn't want Chaotic Darkness. That would just be Mordite, which is not especially easy to change. simple Chaos, with a slight lean to Light (in order to make it work) would work much better.

wounds inflicted with it can be healed, it just takes forever and a half. I haven't been paying attention to what the FoC is. From what I have heard, it sounds closest to watered-down Prismite.

And Platypus, when he's a Luxsprite. I bet the Ennullers keep some inside the Wall. Time travel is definitely the easiest way, and that's not particularly easy  

As for where you get Prismite, you ask a Narrator. You duel a Narrator who doesn't have a Plotblade, they'll probably use their Narrationblade, and if you can chip that, you can have Prismite. You raid Platypus' base (not recommended), he has plenty in there. etc.

well, that doesn't really help, cause I haven't been paying much attention to what shapers are either  if I wasn't quoted or pinged in a post, I probably don't know about what's in it. and I thought time travel could only be achieved through the whole Gem?

yep. if it's to the core, it'll probably kill before it could be healed, but plenty of characters have been nicked and survived. I think Unintelligible is the most recent one.

alright then. Around the back of Eof's house was a Dark area. It exuded the same feeling of profound wrongness that the Darkalloy had. In the center was a slip of paper, pinned under a chunk of Nullite.

Well, Shapers are like just... super powerful hyper shapeshifters that can extend to other things, not just themselves. Smokite is the Shaper's fundamental substance. And, yeah, Ive done a LOT of retcons. Like, A LOT. Also, shapers can create smokite at will. So it isn't as much of a matter of getting the luxite and mordite as figuring how they would combine. And the only way to create or use smokite is through shaping.
