The biggest four related to the Fundamental Essences and are together are enough to be read, a slightly smaller one is Shaping and has the knowledge they’re looking for, and others that exist could be used to access other information and powers. Maybe one fragment from the actual gem is needed, and it can emulate missing pieces or decrypt stored information if given a piece of the relevant magic. Or maybe that’s a terrible idea and it doesn’t even relate to what the gem is supposed to be.
