He seems to have the ability to resurrect the people whose souls he's taken (see Keys). I'm not sure where Keys is. I think she might be back in her bead. 

I gave him a pair of goggles recently. It remains to be seen what they do.

and it's uncertain how long he's been there. The citizens don't seem to fear him, so perhaps the deeper caverns have destigmatized Narrators, at least to some extent. Needs further study. 

Theories

-Somehow engineered the Nullite race

-Created their lore 

-Took over the colony later (unlikely outcome--- the caves seem to be incredibly well hidden 

-Born Narrator as one of the Nullite people (whatever they're called--- needs further study) and rejected the tattoos in favor of his power 

"What specifically seems to need clarification?" 

"It looks to me like you two need a plotline," Lady Bug said. "How would you feel about being part of an experiment?" 

Don't worry. She only wants to cause them great emotional pain. 

The chickens began to sing a full choral arrangement of all Lady Bug's favorite songs, artfully arranged into a single whole. A flock of origami cranes craftily folded from stained glass flew through the air, refracting light intricately.

I think it's 'cause he's a little clueless and is persistent about answers.
