Rebel nodded. “It was pretty strange - I guess that’s what I get for going there after dark. But if you need to bring me somewhere, I understand.” He also coiled a cloud of invisible utility fog around the man, to kill him at a moment’s notice.

Okay, so Malevolence is going after the Plotblade Antagonist, which is bad because then that makes him the ultimate villain or whatever, right? Well basically- anyway, we don't want him to get it, so Rebus is trying to get it instead and prove he's a better villain or whatever, and he needed my help to do that.
