The rabbit was rather tired of eating things. She had already consumed three humans sacrificed to her by a town, and she figured maybe she shouldn’t eat anymore.

Actually, it might be very Fun to have a Pet.

She eased closer to the Person, slowly so as not to Scare It.

Pssh. :P

Odd choice of capitalization. I'm sure that's not important.

Tam wiped her eyes and sniffled, then finally noticed the rabbit.

Not really wanting to interact with it, she looked at the ground.

It is to the rabbit!

She swelled with Pride. Her Pet had a sense of Self Preservation! Very well. She would just sit here until her Pet got used to her Presence.

She sat in the grass, watching her Pet out of the corner of her eye and trying not to be too Assuming.

What are you doing with this rabbit? :P

She summoned a piece of paper and a pencil and started writing something down.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Aw! Her Pet was trying to Articulate Thoughts! She felt even more proud.

She hopped over and used her paws to pull the pad down. Unable to read it, she ate a corner of the paper and retreated back to sitting in the grass.

She went back to writing.

Hmm.

The Paper had actually been Quite Delicious.

Perhaps her Pet had decided to Give to her as an Offering!

What a Wonderfully Clever Pet she had.

Tam finished writing and took some more deep breaths, putting her head in her hands.

She kind of wished the rabbit would go away, but whatever.

Rebus scoff. “That’s not a very helpful or consistent statement. Not only are language and clothing technologies, my body is over twenty percent nanomachines by weight.” He tries to stick his hand into the Nullite fog.

During early portion of the explanation, Rebus laughs. “While I must admit, you know much about history, you clearly have little firsthand experience with Narration or actual writing. I am more alive than you would think - otherwise I would be very speedily written out of existence. Of any of my Author’s creations, I am the most emergent; his mental simulation of me causes him to root for me, and makes me have personality and agency.”
At the end, though, the mirth recedes. “They made themselves an Author? Why would they want to do that or think it would work?”

"Inklings have been around since before the dawn of Narration." Desolation answered his quip.

"They made themselves an author- one that would be able to let them do what they actually wanted." Desolation pointed to the mold in the ground. "I do not know where the tale continues, but I do know they were successful."

Aw, her Pet was scared of her.

That was okay. That was, In fact, To Be Expected.

She moved over to her Pet and rubbed against her, leaving her Scent so No Other Rabbit would Ever Dare eat It, and then she vanished down her hole so her Pet would not have to Be Afraid.

Well, you do have a stamina bar. Each hit halves the bar that magically appears above you.

The shield helps regain that, but your bar is low now.

Rebus sighs and attacks the gargoyle with his sword. It had fewer weapons than he and Atredies, so it shouldn’t be too hard to beat. Rebus also attempts to determine what kind of rock the gargoyle is made from. @SpiritOfWrath

Rebus nods, not sure how that mattered.
“Yes… a theoretical Author that could still affect things like powers and lore. I fail to see the issue with Narration.”

She watched it disappear, still very confused.

Whatever.

She stood and stared at the paper.

A few minutes later, she appeared back with Bat and the others.

"Hey, guys."

“Hey, Tam. Are you… okay?”

"Narration," Desolation said, "Is a gift. It is the gift of ability, but not of choice. By taking up narration, you lose your identity. You become nothing more than bold letters on a silly Brandon Sanderson fan site."

"Those are not your powers, Rebus. Those belong to the Free Author, the one that was created with all Narration made and all Narration to be. And now, it's time to return it."

"Well, I know you already know all this, but every time we get attacked or Authors become a serious object of discussion or my Narration is Nullified, I either have a panic attack, a mental breakdown-" she counted them off on her fingers like she was recounting the events of a normal day, "-I become super angry, stressed, I can't handle my emotions, I end up shivering like crazy, I feel useless all the time . . . and a few other things you probably don't know about." She put her hands down.

"And we already figured out that I can't Narrate my symptoms away, so I figured I should find out what the root of the problem is, y'know?" She summoned a muffin and began munching on it.

"Anyway, pretty quickly I came to the conclusion that the problem was just the things I'd gone through in the past, right? My experiences and all that."

She offered him a muffin.

Rebus laughs. “As I said, it seems you’ve never written anything before. I am much more than words, even if they make up my substance. You believe that if I lose my Narration - the thing I already gave up to be here - I’ll somehow get out of the Thread? That is oblivion to me! I’m an idea; the ability to modify myself is welcome, and my presence here, maintained by an Author I have wrapped around my finger, is honestly the best thing that could happen to me other than being published and ubiquitously known.”

Bat will be fine. Maybe not in the moment, but once Malan is dead, he'll see why keeping him in the dark was necessary.

The rabbit by Malevolence, it shall be noted, stayed very far away from Tam.

She emerged from the hole to check on her---

Aw, her Pet had run away! Poor frightened Pet. She would have to Reassure It somehow.

She found Tam rather quickly and hopped over by her foot, eyeing Malevolence's rabbit.

"Hey, where'd that one come from?"
