“Thanks.” he said, smiling.

He led them to the wedding which was in a massive white pavilion in the front yard of the inn. It was decked in multi-colored lanterns.

Bat was impressed.

Just now, Through The Living Glass said:

"Mhm!"

"Oo . . ."

She shoved her gift into Cricket's arms, then turned into a hummingbird and zipped between the lanterns playfully, laughing.

Bat smiled. She was such a cute person.

Absently he wondered what it would be like to be a bird.

Dust covered her face and arms, and hair, as well as other smaller cuts from smaller falling rocks having sliced her skin, she looked up, and screamed as Palsu leaned over her. “Get away from me-!” She yelled, kicking at his legs to put space between them.

Palsu stumbled back. "S-sorry." He said nervously. "I was worried you'd been hurt."

"You must command it." She stepped over to the wall, lay her hand on it, and whispered a single word. "Corrupt."

It crumbled to ash-like dust from her hand outward, leaving the dark countryside visible beneath the hundred-foot cliff. She turned to him. "Living things will resist you, Malevolence. Trees, grass, people... those are not yet yours to command. Someday, perhaps I will teach you of them. For now, go make use of what I have given you already."

Malevolence nods. He focuses on the glass in his hand. Corrupt. he thinks, focusing intently. The glass crumbles into a fine powder. "Excellent. Thank you for your tutelage. I look forward to learning more of evil from you soon." He left, stepping carefully through the pile of dust that was once a castle wall.

That is not the case. In fact, there are several testimonials that indicate that the Survivor number 655 was skipped over entirely.

It was a sunny day without a cloud in the sky. The grass underfoot was green with life, and flowers seemed to sprout all around the wedding pavilion. Birds fluttered gracefully through the air, and all was right in the world. The Priest stood at the head of the aisle, robes cleaned and ironed, large book held closed in front of him. He breathed in the clean air and smiled. As soon as the bride and groom arrived, it would be time to begin.

The Priest barely blinked at the blinding light, flipping through the pages until he reached a blank page. Then he cleared his throat, and began to speak. "We are gathered here today to witness the holy union of this man, Julian, and this woman, Tempest." As he spoke, golden light issued from his mouth, spinning in a loop around him, the bride, and the groom before coming to rest in the book, forming new words within its pages. "Julian, will you have this woman to be your lawful wedded wife, to live together after God s ordinance in the Holy Estate of Matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others keep you only unto her as long as you both shall live?" The copy of Rebus who’d cured Cricket considers going to the wedding, but doesn’t. The other copies continue what they were doing.
Rebus reaches out to Malevolence, sending a well-encrypted message to his computer. I see you have been busy while I was away. Your mentor does have a good conception of evil, but I think there are a few things missing. You and I have a lot in common, though not everything. For instance, I avoid giving everyone nearby radiation poisoning if I need to use overkill, and generally when I do, it will work. I wouldn’t say I’m evil, but I’ll give you some advice.

The Render is still stuck in the Endless Field. It’s beginning to lose hope, honestly.
Malevolence gets another message. This one is encrypted both magically and technologically. It says the following:

We could use fantasy aesthetics but futuristic capabilities, having ‘magical’ servants that are truly utility fog constructs. That would let us shield the place from excessive magic, protecting it.”
