A brave adventurer burst into the control room. "Who authorized activation of the lava defense systems? We're supposed to be in stealth mode!" The brave adventurer at the keyboard typed furiously. "Sorry sir, it's some kind of backdoor access. We're working to shut it down, but the protocols protecting it are quite hardy. Some kind of leftover from the previous owner of the system that we didn't catch when we rewrote the security systems."

The rabbits ran right over the lava, black eyes growing darker as they drew nearer to Hacob.

 

"Uh," said Selppaenip, peering down at the eruption, "Is the volcano supposed to be doing that?"

The doctor created a dome of safety around them both. Whatever it is, it is most definitely not supposed to be here. She began to make patterns with her hands, muttering under her breath.

The blue crystal/mist represents the refined dragonblood. It is not malevolent, but not benevolent.

The yellow vines are the aggressive material that’s doing the bad things.

Normally (for Pyk and Tenth’s people) these two are existent in everyone, but  they cancel eachother out. Certain things can cause an imbalance, allowing one to be used. And sometimes, one is entirely removed. This can happen two ways, but the more common and more dangerous one is the death of one who had an imbalance. If the imbalance favors the golden strands, that’s when things are dangerous. Because the strands use the death to eradicate the other one, the dragonblood. Then they take control of the dead body, etc. zombie situation.

But the strands are always aggressive, just don’t always have a chance to show it. The Nullite (well, and a fourth thing, but that is unimportant) that was added to the mix interrupted the conflict between the dragonblood and the strands, distracting them and allowing them to act with the Nullite. But the Strands have a mind of their own, and use the Nullite to hurt others as much as possible.

The reason the dragonblood attack was that it was retaliating against the Strands.

Wow. Magic system drop…

Tenth cowered, but the Strands kept coming. They surrounded the bubble, squeezing, pushing in.
