Tell them we're going to take the soul far away from here.

“We’ll take him far away,” Beosta said. “I promise. He won’t come back to hurt you.”

The woman hesitated.

"What?" exclaimed Bacon. "Why not?"

“Same reason I’ve got this,” she snapped, pulling up her sleeve to reveal the dark ink.

The machine appeared.

It was large, filling the room, and entirely covered with clocks of all shapes and sizes- pendulum, counterweight, spring-loaded, digital- the only thing they had in common was that they were all shattered.

Everyone stepped closer, examining it closely. “So replace the clocks. Doesn’t seem like that big a deal.” They touched the side of the machine, leaning close and searching for a way inside.

Shoe suddenly remember that they'd . . . left the body . . .

on the ground . . .

at Bacon's castle . . .

Ew.

Cricket groaned. "Bacon, they have nullite weapons and are in a nullite bunker. Did you really thinked they liked narrators?"

“I don’t have to. Your kind thinks you can reshape the world however you want! Well, guess what? We aren’t going to stand for it!”

Her words were met with hearty cheers from the other warriors.

I… don’t know.

“Is that Nullite?”

“Duh,” the woman scoffed.

Shoe got excited before remembering that these people didn't want anything to do with them. He sighed. Maybe things would get cleared up soon.

"The machine will recycle time. That is all it does."

Onyx replaced the clocks so the machine was in a fixed state.

Bacon assured Shoe that the body remained in stasis.

Bacon scratched his head. "I'm afraid I don't see the problem... why is that a bad thing?"

“Oh, are you worried about the little prick we gave your boyfriend?”

Beosta blushed angrily. “He’s not—“

“Shut up. Don’t worry about it. We’ve spent years engineering the ink to have minimal side effects. And that’s a pretty small dose, comparatively.” She held out her arms, covered in artsy tattoos. “I can’t say anything for sure, of course. But it should fade in a few days.”

Bacon couldn't help but notice none of them had injected it into their bloodstream.

Shoe blushed. Hey, I'm not-! Wait, a few days . . . ?

Hadn't Bacon's friend said something about it needing to be out of his system by the end of the day?

Uh- I'm sure it'll be fine, he thought to himself.

Beosta repeated the concern at the end.

“We add a whole lot of stuff in there to make it last longer. A tattoo renewal every day? Ew.”

“Whatever. If you’ll keep him far away… we might consider some kind of trade.”

“Can you flush it out somehow?” Beosta interrupted.

“Sorry. No.”

May I suggest side effects of adaptation to Nullite

She shrugged. “You’re the Narrator. You tell me. Oh, and you also owe us a new wall.”

Bacon scratched his head. "Uh... give us back the soul and I'll forgive you for breaking into my castle?"

A predilection for order, longer lifespan, and less vibrant coloration. Also potentially a preference for the cold and the dark.

You just described me without the longer lifespan

Shouldn't be too hard to write 😉

And for stabbing me! Sort of.

You know what I mean.

You mean to say Shoe has a predilection for ordered darkness?
