The destroyer remained pinned. Alone.

"One day," he spoke. "One day... you will understand. You will use my gift. And you will join us..."

With that, he melted away, flowing into the ground. In moments, nothing remained.

Bacon muttered something and then teleported around a little.

"Well, I can give myself the ability to teleport, at least," he mumbled. "I guess that'll work."

Oooh phew

i got scared there, man

Ista looked around. “Are we ok?”

"Beosta, where are we?" asked Cricket, attempting to shift again.

“We should be in the Eternal Mountains.”

Erif seemed dazed. "Yeah... yeah, I guess."

"If I may ask," said the inspector, "what... happened?"

"I guess you guys'll just have to walk," said Bacon, shrugging. "See ya."

With that, he teleported to the top of the mountain.

"Yeah, I got that much. But what exactly are the Eternal Mountains?"

“The destroyer got really mad at me, then tried to merge our souls or something. Make me one of those zombies or something. But I said nuh-uh!”

“Oh yea and the destroyer placed a worm in my Thread. But it’s okay. It’s just a minor annoyance. All it really means is I can never die and can use my powers infinitely.”

“Oh well I heal and use my powers by taking advantage of emotion and or Ice and I guess the destroyer’s presence now, and the destroyer left his anger with me.”

"What?" the inspector suddenly seemed alarmed. "And you've been using it?"

"Power," whispered the anger. "Yes. We will give you power."

“It’s pretty useful. It’s not like I’m actually using it. I don’t take in the hatred of a Servant of Wrath when I take advantage of it. That’s not really how it works. It does talk to me, but I’m pretty much used to that by now.”

She addressed the anger. “Sshh… You should meet Rage.”

"Perhaps..." said the inspector. "But this is not like any anger you have encountered before- it is alive. Be very, very careful, Ista. I fear this is what the destroyer wanted."

"You should kill him," whispered the anger.

Bacon examined the top of the mountain curiously.

The top, which was covered in snow, rocks, and minimal shrubbery, afforded an extensive view of rumples upon rumples of mountains beyond. On the next mountain range over was a small group of specks— a line of wagons.

Bacon gave himself incredible eyesight and examined the wagons extensively.

Cricket opened a portal suddenly, falling back as he did so, to the top of the mountain. "All right, everyone through. " he said, making sure to shove Bacon when he found him.

“I literally live in a world where emotions are personified. There is a sapient and intelligent force named Rage that is the source of all anger; at least, on that world.”

"Have you ever had Rage in your head, influencing your thoughts? Have you ever connected to Rage, drawn power from him?"

“Nope! But this is different. People who got power from Rage literally tethered their souls to him. But your warning is apt. I will allow you people to warn me if I seem to become… different. I have Intellect and Mirth as bastions, so I should have the presence of mind to take necessary precautions.”

"I wonder if your situation might not be even more intimate than that. But I suppose if you are sure your other emotions can keep it in check... I will have to be satisfied with that." He sighed. "I fear your visit here has only brought you pain..." He glanced at Erif, who was staring off into the distance, and Tull, no longer a Narrator.

Bacon gave himself incredible eyesight and examined the wagons extensively.

They appeared simply made and colorfully painted. A young man of perhaps twenty, or perhaps thirty, stood at the front of the wagons. No others were visible, nor did there seem to be any animal pulling the wagons.

“Is there any way he might gain back his Narration? A service to Onyx or something?”

"Ow," said Bacon absently. "Hey, Beosta, who are we looking for again?"

"Well, the last Narrator to lose their powers in such a way was able to petition Onyx to recover it... but that was when Onyx was receiving visitors. If he won't even see you..." the inspector shook his head. "As long as Onyx remains reclusive, I don't think it's possible."

“A caravan thing. Shouldn’t be too hard to find.”
