"What!" exclaimed Bacon. "We don't get to hear?"

“Of course not,” the man scoffed. “It’s hers, not mine yet. You aren’t the one paying her for her secrets.”

@Through The Living Glass Shoe could steal them or buy them second hand without Beosta’s knowledge if you think that’s something he’d do 🤷‍♀️

Bacon couldn't see what the point of Beosta revealing her secrets would be if she wasn't revealing them to everyone, but he supposed he could probably find a way to figure them out if he really needed to.

Sorry to disappoint; it's not :P

Shoe watched the interaction, intrigued but also frightened of what this man could do.

“Come on.” The man led her into the back of his wagon.

“Is it… do I have to… to talk about it?”

“Thankfully, no.” The man sat her down in a chair and pulled several glowing strings out of her head, then mashed them into a small handful of tiny glowing spheres— gold, but otherwise similar to the soul she carried. “Zeddikar’s outpost in this thr— uh, planet is in a cave beneath Grendville. I have a map for you.” He handed her the parchment.

Beosta glanced at it, folded it up, and stood to leave.

“Wait,” the man ordered, examining one of the spheres closely. “Wait. Do they not know?”

Her gaze dropped to the floor. “No,” she whispered.

“Hrm. Well… you’ll have to tell them, yes? Preferably before they find out?”

Beosta twisted both hands in her hair and squeezed her eyes shut. “No. I don’t want to.”

“Just consider it.”

”I’ll… I’ll consider it.”

They both stepped out of the wagon, the spheres vanishing into the man’s pockets. “Anything else anybody would like to know? The location of a lover, perhaps? A song long forgotten?”

This is low effort… sorry 😅

I tried

Erm, can I get a rundown of what has happened since entering the portal to the mountains?

They found the caravan Beosta was looking for. The dude told them that the sphere she has is a soul of somebody who looks like Shoe. Then he took her backstory in exchange for a map.

Hey, it's all good. You don't have to apologize :D

Shoe was surprised. That was fast.

He and Tam shook their heads. "We're fine," Tam said.

“What about your brother’s voice? I’m curious.”

"Yeah," chimed in Bacon. "We defeated Ciara, but you still haven't said a word. What's up with that?"

Haly, you're incorrigible in the best way :D

Tam laughed. "I don't think he'd like that very much," she said, rubbing Shoe's head like he was a child. He rolled his eyes and swatted her hand away, but nodded admittedly. Yeah . . .

He thought for a moment. What about something happier? he said to Tam.

"Oh? Like what?"

Just something, he replied, walking up to the caravan man. Caraman? he thought to himself.

“Yes?” The caraman responded, strangely.

Oh. Wait, you can hear me? That makes this a lot easier. He chuckled. I wasn't talking to you just then, sorry.

I want to get a memory to show my sister.

“Ah. Your own memory?”

He nodded.

“Simple! As long as you will allow me to keep a copy, I can do that for you right away.”

Uh, sure. Shoe thought that was a little weird, but he didn't really mind.

PUN INTENDED

*laughter*

*crickets* (pun intended) *laughter*

Cricket studied the caraman, wondering if he could tell him anything about the message.

The man asked him to step into the wagon— the inside of which was cluttered with a whole outfit of eccentric items— and sat him down on a chair.

“Just out of curiosity, what do you think of that girl? Beosta?”

I’m sorryyyyy I just really like herrrr

Shoe thought for a moment. Not much, truthfully.

“Ah.” The man reached into the air in front of Shoe’s forehead and tugged on some invisible string, gently drawing out a long golden strand. “But you do know some things?”

Um . . . he watched the man pull on the thread. Huh. Er- maybe, I mean. He thought about what he'd seen back at Ciara's fortress. It's all . . . very confusing. Just bits and pieces.
