Cricket rolled his eyes. "I've spent ten years traveling the multiverse and the suspicious cave is NEVER where the evil hideout is. It's somewhere innocuous, like under a hill or a waterfall."

[You have faced only villains without panache, then. Everyone knows the lair of a proper dark lord is lightless and foreboding!]

I don’t like this, Beosta thought (only Shoe should hear her, and Bacon, cuz narrator)

[Smart of you. Evil is very unlikable.]

A normal pigeon joined the group. [But can you imagine the ruler of the withergeists hiding behind a waterfall? It would be hilarious!]

Then he flew off, probably never to be seen again.

[That's what I'm saying! The Witherlord wouldn't be caught dead basing behind a pretty, peaceful waterfall. It just doesn't fit the brand at all!]

[Witherlord?] Yrank asked. [Withergeist? What are those?]

[Stereotypical dark monsters, probably] answered Cricket.

No, Bacon's right. It's in a cave.

Just not that cave specifically. He veered off to the left and landed in front of a different cave.

It's this one.

[Are we really ready to do this] sighed Cricket [Mr. uh um.. Shoe?]

Yrank, disappointed that he never got his answer, landed next to Shoe, staring into the dark mouth of the cave.

[Pretty much, yeah. With any luck we won't run into them.]

Ready as we'll ever be, I guess. Without an Ennuller as backup, at least.

Shoe shivered and began walking into the cave.

Bacon followed on short pigeon legs, uncharacteristically quiet.

As the feathered friends bobbed into the darkness, something strange occured. The walls seemed to stretch, almost imperceptible at first, but becoming more noticeable the further they walked into the cave. When they looked behind them, the sunlight seemed much further away than it should have been.

Suddenly, all the light vanished, and they were left in smothering darkness.

After a moment, light ever-so-slowly drifted in from above. They were in a room made entirely of stone, with no furnishings save a cast-iron chandelier with burning candles. There were two doorways, one leading to the left and one leading to the right, both shadowed so completely that no one could tell what was beyond them.

Well, here we are, Shoe announced. Let's not talk anymore, just to be safe.

As he looked around, he wondered . . .

I wanted to make that joke so bad

You're welcome

Oh, and feel free to just wander around a bit. I'll be back later or in the morning.

Xino and Fox, your Narration won't work here, and everyone else powers won't either.

Bacon pecked at the ground in his best pigeon impression, carefully keeping an eye out for anything important. Where was this Ciara?

Are they not speaking into each others' minds?

Bacon decided to take the left door. No one ever discovered anything by standing still, after all.

[Freaky.] Beosta instinctively tried to pull strength from Livetha, but whether it was the lair or being pigeons, she couldn’t.

Nope.

Everyone woke up in the same location.

"Where are we?" asked Erif, looking around the overgrown room. No one answered.

[I see we've all gotten the hang of it now! I thank thee for thy service, sir Natsu. Wouldst thou perchance be able to direct us to a multiversal travel hub?"

Bacon suddenly wondered what had happened to the portaler. What was his name- Cicada? -no, Cricket!

Secrets?

“It was said the dream eaters wold take us to Onyx, so it sounds like we must move on. We might need to just progress this… ‘dream’ before we can see him.”

Beyond the door was a long, stone hallway. As Bacon walked further in, the space was illuminated by some unseen source of light. There were many doorways further on, though he couldn't see into any of them.

A loud crash suddenly sounded from the right hallway. Shoe jumped and skittered after Bacon.

The crash came from the hallway Bacon didn't go down, just to clarify.

Beosta didn’t like how nervous Shoe was. She also went after Bacon, with Livetha in tow.

"I'm afraid you're in a defunct storyline at the moment," said the clone of Bacon, still disguised as a tree. "@NameIess vanished, and so nothing's moving here. If you wanted, we could start a chaos storyline. It's been a while since we've had one of those."

Bacon wondered what the crash was. Hopefully Yrank and Cricket would explore that direction.

He walked over to the nearest doorway and peered inside.

Erif tried the door, but it wouldn't move- the vines had locked it shut.

"Catfish," he muttered. "Inspector? Are you here?"

The only response was a whistling sound, as of the wind. But there was no wind.
