Natsu blinks a few times, realizing how close to death he had just gotten, but still not daring to make a sound.

The lights from the both hallways faded out, leaving them in darkness for now.

I'll be back in a few. She's gone for now, and if you step out of the rooms the lights'll turn back on.

The woman walked through the hallway, a suspicious look on her face.

I know there's something in here, she said to no one in particular, peeking into the first few doorways but not seeing anything. Then she turned and listened to someone behind her.

Let me see, she said to the person in the other hallway, walking out.

Shoe breathed a shaky sigh or relief.

Yrank looked at Bacon, for guidance. The former's pigeon-ing was by far the least believable.

At hearing what he assumed to be Ciara walk away, he cooed a sigh of relief.

[That was Ciara, yes?] muttered Bacon softly.

[See? We're fine.] Beosta nudged him with her wing.

Yeah. Shoe shuddered again.

Certain he was gone, he stepped back out into the hallway. The lights flickered back on, wherever they were.

I mean for now, but she'll be back.

He looked to Bacon. Seen enough yet?

Yrank continued to very unnaturally peck the ground. He knew that he'd be captured anyway as soon as Ciara saw him, disguise or not. He continued to peck in his mechanical fashion.

Well... maybe not, though.

Ista tried freezing a vine.

The vine shattered into fragments. Black slime oozed from the broken vine, pooling together into the form of a eyeless bird with tattered wings.

The inspector abruptly turned. "A dream eater?" he mumbled, bewildered. "But how...?"

The bird let out a screech and struck at Ista with viciously sharp claws.

[Who's the person she's talking to?] asked Bacon curiously.

[Perhaps an assistant of some kind?] Natsu muses.

I . . . I have an idea, he looked at Bacon, and I think you do, too.

[I do?] said Bacon, bewildered.

Ista immediately restrained it, using her remaining energy to heal. She kept it down, then started studying it.

Wait, I'm confused now.

No, as in Shoe thought that Bacon had an idea too, but then said that he doesn't have the vaguest idea.

Maybe I'm missing something, I dunno 🤷

He's saying he doesn't believe that Bacon doesn't have an idea who it is

Ahh yes I see, I see.

By all means continue.

Bacon gasped. [You don't mean... surely not!]

The surface of the bird-thing was etched with fine patterns that seemed oddly familiar to Ista. Were those... faces? As Ista studied the strange creature, it twitched against its restraints, letting out a strange hissing scream. The lights in the room flickered. More of the vines began to melt and flow into the creature, causing it to grow.

The inspector stood up, pushing Erif aside. "Did you bring this here?" he asked Ista sharply.

“Nope!” She says brightly. Feeding off his emotions, she freezes the goo reaching for the bird. “Cool pun intended scream. I wonder.” She attempted to see if it’s emotions could fuel her.

I'm torn though . . . I want to see her more than ANYTHING, but . . . I don't want to put any of us in danger. She could be in danger, too.

[Well,] said Yrank, [that's more of a reason to get her out of there, don't you think?]

[Besides, we've been in mortal peril before, but the reason we keep going is because of our resolve. We'll get your sister back, I promise.]
