Drawing her Blade, the companion faces the voice.

A man steps out from behind a tree. His skin and hair are ashen grey, and his clothes are ragged and torn. His eyes are closed, but he faces the travelers one by one as if he can see them perfectly. He exhales, letting out a sigh of some unidentifiable emotion.

"That is unfortunate," he states. He raises his right hand. Black mist swirls up from the ground, forming into a shimmering steel blade inset with veins of blue and black. His eyes open, and twin voids stare out at the travelers. "There is room for only one victor in this little game. And it's not going to be you."

Around him, the ground breaks open as skeletal forms claw their way free of the earth's crushing embrace. No sooner have they breached the surface then they charge at the brave adventurer and his companions, jaws open in a soundless scream of rage.

The brave adventurer curses, pulling a dagger from his coat and hurling it at the void-eyed man. Two more knives appear in his hands as he charges the skeletons, expression grim.

The void-eyed man leans to the side, letting the dagger fly past him while his skeletons bite, claw, and tear at the adventurer.

"Only one? Darnit!" The Elf-creatures form shifts, and there stands Sequence. "I guess you can have this one." She turns around and walks away, ignoring the fighting and offering no help whatsoever. "Now where am I going to find another Plotblade..."

“Um, Sequence? Could you maybe help me out here?” The brave adventurer fights furiously, barely managing to prevent the skeletons from killing him.

Sequence turned around. "Hm. I don't know you and I've always been taught to not trust strangers... but you seem like you legitimately need help..." Sequence thinks for a moment, saying 'eeny meeny miny moe' under their breath a few times. "... Yeah okay, I'll help you." Sequence clears her throat.

Brave adventurer suddenly became the most skilled swordsman on the thread.

"How's that?"

The brave adventurer continued fighting with his daggers. “I don’t have a sword.”

"Oh. My bad!" Sequence cleared her throat again.

Brave adventurer's swordsmanship skills translated really well to daggersmanship.

“Many thanks.” The brave adventurer attacks with renewed vigor, now easily avoiding the skeletons attacks and getting in strikes of his own.

The void eyes narrowed as the adventurer tore apart skeleton after skeleton.

In a flash of black light, he was standing behind Sequence. "You cheat," he hissed.

"I'm a Narrator! Cheating is kinda my thing." Sequence said happily.

Sequence froze. That's when Everyone appeared and shot the void-eyed man in the back of the head with a rubber-band gun. "If she dies, I die too so maybe don't do that."

The rubber band bounced off harmlessly. The void-eyed man grinned a joyless grin. "I don't need to kill you." He ripped his hand out of Sequence, pulling a swirling orb of light out of her chest. "I just need to take your Narration away."

Sequence gasped, falling to her knees. Everyone shrugged. “Guess I’m okay with that.” They vanished. Sequence was curled up in the fetal position, shivering.

The ally suddenly springs up and stabs the hand holding the light with her Cosmosblade. She picks it up and gives it back to @Sequence. "Get out of here! I've got this." She turns confidently and begins attacking the void-eyed man, forcing him back with her strokes.

The void eyed man laughed out loud as the light in his hand resolved into an amulet of green. "Ah, it's been a while... I've missed this."

The man suddenly gained the ability to conjure fireballs.

He grinned, conjuring a fireball in the hand that wasn't containing the amulet. "Yes!"

The wound was suddenly healed.

The fireball rolled off his hand onto the ground.

What fireball, I didn't pick one up.

"Um..." The ally backs up a little.

Platypus suddenly forms.

"You want a Narration fight? Come and get it! Adventurer, ally, go do what you need to do! I'll take care of this joker." Platypus says tauntingly.

"You're the one that just got an aspect of your being stolen. I'll be fine. GO!" She yells, running to the adventurer.

Then it turned back. It was, after all, immune to Narration from anyone but the wielder.

The woman who had welcomed the adventurers into the lands of Onyx appeared without warning and removed the amulet from the hand of the void-eyed man. Onyx lays claim to this power, used without authority. She waved her hand and the powers that the void-eyed man had given himself were removed. You have been warned.

i see. I don't think that's quite possible because of the Cosmosblade's protection of itself and the wielder from Narration, but... minor continuity errors are fine. plus you didn't know.

Platypus holds off his assault and Narrates the skeletons back into the ground from whence they came.

The ally reaches the adventurer, barely breathing hard. "Ready to move on?"

The brave adventurer finishes off the last of the skeletons, then turns to confront the void-eyed man. He blinks in shock at all the Narration-related shenanigans that are going on. “Uh, hello strange Narrator. I am glad for yo-” He’s cut off as Subversion appears, grabs Platypus, and disappears.

Sequence attempted to sit upright to face the guardian woman. “… Can I have my N-Narrator powers back?” She asked softly. “If this Onyx fellow needs power, I can give him some of Everyone’s.”
