To find Nicroburst, zoom in on the "northwest Edmonton" text.  You will see a building called Steel-Craft.  That's his base.

The mystery Epic is in the four-block-wide area centering on the intersection of 153 ST NW and 112 AVE NW

Re: Phytomagnet's Plant Structures

Phytomagnet has used his powers to uproot and distort large portions of the Sherwood Park Natural Area. He appears to have been able to use his ability to pull plants to pull only portions of them, and it resulted in many rather unique sculptures. There are even a few places where entire trees have been uprooted, flipped upside down, and locked in place on their head. How his powers were used to do this is unknown, as I haven't been able to actually watch him construct any of the structures. Attached are a couple of quick sketches of two of his creations.

[NTD - Here ya go! I treated this somewhat as a field agent scouting the area, seeing the incomplete report, and adding his/her details. Feel free to rewrite this however you'd like to fit into the initial summary, and let me know if you have any more questions.]

This is perfect!  I will add in tonight or maybe tomorrow (I have a dinner after work tonight).  For now, I did add a border for Phyto's territory, so let me know if it looks correct.

Just a note on personal preference, I wouldn't ask anyone to rewrite something and if the general preference was for present tense then I could probably switch over.

I prefer third person past tense personally, just to add my two cents.

@Comatose, a few suggestions to fill in the blanks in your summary:

Lead Epic of Calgary: Chrysalis

Primary: Enhanced physical strength and endurance, allowing the proportional strength of a horned beetle (approx. 1000 times his own body weight)

Secondary: can grow thick carapace from his body, impervious to nearly all weaponry, including gunfire, fire, hard light, and all but the most powerful energy weapons. The carapace appears red and black, with green accents.

Tertiary: Can gift these abilities to minions, up to about 1000 (His "Swarm")

Quandary: Directs a hive mind over these minions, and can direct their actions en mass. Note: cannot specifically control one minion.

Chrysalis is usually covered in his carapace, and is remaking Calgary into his Hive. Employs several insect-themed Epics.

@Drake Marshall Possible name for Epoch's faction: EON.

Dead Epic, former Edmonton faction leader: Doubletake

Basic bio: Precog PI, can make false doubles of herself, super reflexes. She preferred to take on her targets personally, and usually killed them easily. Incredibly difficult to take down, because she needs to be checkmated, but the secret leaked out that it was possible to dissipate her doubles using strobe lights. During an intense duel with another neighboring Epic, which she mortally wounded, she was checkmated and thrown from a building.

Doubletake's faction: Most feared not because of Doubletake's strength, but because of their reach. Her agents had surveillance in nearly every corner of the city, maintained by a cadre of minor Epic's under her command. They became quite wealthy by demanding tribute from landowners and weaker Epics in return for "protection." Those that didn't keep up their payments, or openly opposed Doubletake, would disappear.

I like these, and I'm glad we are adding a woman leader, since we don't have enough of those in Edmonton right now.  I'm assuming Chrysalis will be an NPC (if you want to RP him then let me know), and so I was wondering about changing him to female as well just to even things out a bit?  Especially since our female epic leader in Edmonton is dead.

Then again, the leader of the maple government will be female (I have an idea for her already I think - I'll slip her into the prologue), so maybe Chrysalis is fine as male, even if he is an NPC.

*facepalm.  I was zooming in on the northeast industrial area.  I found it now.

Is it four blocks wide and four blocks tall?  I added the center point, but would like to add the borders as well.  I think it's important this one has borders due to the force-field. Also, I'm assuming they'd want at least a section of the residential area directly south of the center point so their maples have a place to live?

For the mystery epic, do you have any more notes that we can add in about their interaction with the rest of the city?  What do the people who live there do?  Do they basically just keep to themselves?  Also, let me know how tall the forcefield is and what it's shaped like.  We should likely add that as a landmark (also is it translucent, or just black?  Can people see in or out?).

Edit:  I included a suggested area on the map for the forcefield. Let me know if it looks right or if it should be changed.

@Comatose I was actually planning to RP Chrysalis, but he would only come into the story later, once things in Edmonton have shaken up enough to warrant his attention. I’m also totally fine with making him female, if we need to. It doesn’t really matter to me.

If you have a specific character in mind, I’m totally fine with him being male, especially if you had plans for him.  It was just a suggestion in the event he was more powerset than character at this point, and his gender wouldn’t matter much.

Edit: Also, for the remaining bronies and pegasisters in the group, I will not lie that the idea of having an epic Queen Chrysalis did cross my mind, haha.

Okay, here's what I came up with for a summary (prologue can follow once this is approved and filled in).  With all the epics flying around, I tried to only include the major ones (epics with notable or unique powers or epics who seemed to be in charge or like they could be in charge in the future, plot drivers basically), and the ones who are being ported over from Oregon.  Things that still need to fill in are emphasized.  There was a lot of information to collect and comb through, so I'm expecting some revisions will be necessary.

MAP LINK (Will put in Thread Once Done) - I can't quite find Nicroburst's location.  Could you send me an address?  A big part I need is locations.

I don't think we should let anyone edit the map, but if you are interested, reply here, and I will set it up so multiple people can edit and then it's not just me (actually you will need to send me an email address, so maybe just PM me).

NOTE: Not all of the stuff below actually would be in the knowledge of the Reckoners - writing it from their perspective was just a fun way to put this together.

Edmonton Summary (DRAFT)

  Hide contents

Reckoners File YEG - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada - Most Recent Update - 2025 [NTD - New name for Edmonton?]

Overview

Following Calamity, a fairly large number of powerful epics from around Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the northwestern United States, all set their sights on ruling over Calgary, one of Canada's largest cities.  After several destructive battles and minor wars, the major players were either killed or fled the area, leaving the city in ruins.  Recently, a new epic has come into the area, and finally managed to gain control over what remains of the city.  This epic [NTD - name?] is still solidifying their borders and starting to rebuild Calgary in their image, and thus far has not turned their gaze northward.

Edmonton, however, was left relatively unscathed, either in spite of or because of the focus on Calgary.  Home to a variety of mid-tier--and a few upper-tier--epics, rule of the city is currently divided between several different factions, including one headed by the former Albertan Government.  There are approximately 1000 epics in the city at any given time, and the maple population is around 700,000 - 800,000.  While the epic leaders of the different factions are in constant competition for dominance, thus far the conflict has yet to turn overly bloody, and no one group has managed to gain control of the city.  [NTD - Dead Epic Name] , arguably the most powerful epic in the city at the time, recently made an attempt at asserting his/her dominance, and their failure seems to have had a chilling effect on the remaining Edmontonian leaders.  Furthermore, Epoch, another epic of considerable influence in the city, recently suffered a leak of his weakness, making him unlikely to make any sudden moves.

Life for maples in Edmonton is fairly normal compared to the rest of the world.  Many still go to work and raise families.  Businesses in the more stable areas are still operating.  While the city lacks the wealth of services and amenities it once provided, so long as people steer clear of the Belt, and other dangerous epics, they can be relatively happy with their lives.

Unfortunately, Edmonton's fragile stability seems to be in danger of shattering, as several epics fleeing the destruction of Oregon with varying levels of culpability, have been seen in the area.

Layout and Landmarks

Aside from several points of destruction from epic battles, there are several key notable features of the City of Edmonton to be aware of:

(1) The "Time Zones" - created by the epic Epoch, different parts of Edmonton move through time at different speeds relative to one another.

(2) The "Dream Storm" - likely created by an Epic, but no one knows which one.  The dream storm is about a third of the size of the city, and moves around it, usually at night, but occasionally during the day as well.  The storm starts with a luminescent mist spreading out across the ground, about ankle height.  The storm then produces ghostly rain (also luminescent, the same colour as the mist) which falls up towards the sky.  People walking in the storm cannot touch or feel the rain itself, but it basically just makes people feel cold and clammy all over.  After reaching a certain point, high in the Edmonton sky, the rain stops, forming "puddles" which develop into strange constellations which light up Edmonton's sky, day or night.  Aside from feeling cold and clammy, bystanders, epic and maple, caught in the storm quickly grow disoriented and confused.  Staying out in the storm for longer than a few minutes results in increasing stages of memory loss.  These effects intensify the longer the person is out in the storm.  If the person stays in the storm for longer than a few hours, the memory loss effects begin to become permanent, but otherwise the person begins to recover when the the storm ends and they head indoors.  Agents in the city are advised to avoid the storm at all costs, but we are looking into potential uses for the storm in hunting epics.

(3) Spider/Web Infestation - Since Arachnerd's arrival [NTD - insert sector of city] has become infested with spiders and webs.    Major roadways are being blocked off, and residence are becoming uninhabitable.

(4) Phytomagnet's Plant Structures - Mostly located in the Sherwood Park Natural Area.  [NTD - Could use more explanation]

(5) Pharia Statue [NTD - What is this?  I missed the original explanation]

Factions

Power in the city of Edmonton is divided between several different factions, with a significant amount of the city remaining "no man's land" and not subject to the rule of any particular faction.

[NTD: Epoch's Faction Name] -  one of the oldest factions still existing, dating back to soon after Calamity appeared.  Led by the epic Epoch, who is responsible for the city's strange timezones.  Once prominent, this faction has quieted lately due to the leaking of its leader's weakness.  The faction is located in the South Edmonton Common area.

The Belt - led by Orbit, mostly a group of epic and maple thugs, based in the West Edmonton Mall, and controlling a large part of the western side of the city.  This faction's borders are somewhat loose, and shift often, due to its relative lack of organization.

Alberta Government - The former government of Alberta, or what is left of it.  Due to the lack of powerful epics assuming total control of the city, the government has manages to survive by aligning itself with various factions and playing them against each other.  Currently holed up in Sherwood Park (the RCMP office, the Archbishop Jordan Catholic School, and the Strathcona Hosptial are key bases)  but has plans to reclaim the legislature now that Epoch seems to be retreating.  They seem to have been emboldened by the news of Steelheart's death.  Despite the outward unified front against enemy epics, the two remaining political parties (the deeply conservative Wildrose Party and the somewhat socialist NDP party) remain bitter enemies who are constantly struggling against each other for control of the faction, despite the lack of elections.

Circle of the Shield - a secret research organization operating in northern Canada.  Studying epics.  Has some influence in the city of Edmonton.   Alligned with Sentinel, an epic wit h the ability to negate other epic powers and freeze targets.

MEC - The Minor Epic Coalition is a group of less powerful Epics united under one banner.  Following the footsteps of their Oregonian brethren (the MEE/Minor Epic Empire), these demi-humans seek to make the public respect all superhumans, high Epic or not, at any costs.  Currently based out of the University of Alberta, including the Hospital.

Mystery Sector - [NTD - Insert Area], and the Vanillas who live there, seem to be controlled by some sort of Epic, but the identify of the epic, and the extent of their powers, is shrouded in mystery.    [What does this faction want?  What makes them a faction?  Geographical/purpose?] .  The sector, consisting of about four city blocks, is surrounded by a black forcefield with only one visible entryway.

[NTD - Former Epic Leader Faction] - This faction was in the process of trying to take over the entire city when the epic in charge was defeated.  Now it is unclear whether someone else will step in and take control, or whether this faction will be disbanded.  The former epic leader of the faction was based in the Alberta Legislature Building.

Key Epics of Edmonton

See full epic profiles for a more detailed explanation:

Epoch - a former local politician with time manipulation, reincarnation, and clairvoyant abilities.  Responsible for Edmonton's strange "timezones" which divide the city.  As been in the city for a long time, and has control of a well established and organized section of the city.  His weakness was recently leaked, causing him to become more reclusive.

Orbit - A powerful epic with gravity powers.  Commands an organization of minor Epics and maples called the "Belt".  Orbit's base is the West Edmonton Mall, on the west side of the city.  A Belt member is AmberLight, an epic with the power to produce sustenance which supplies Orbit's forces and makes them faster, stronger, and mroe confident.

Mystery Sector Ruler - an optical illusionist epic, potentially with forcefield powers or with an ally who can create forcefields, who is shrouded in mystery.  Also has the ability to gift.   This epic's weakness is speculated to be crowds.   The epic is mostly neutral and avoids conflict with the other factions.

Phytomagnet - hangs out in Sherwood Park Natural Area, plant based abilities.  Helps the other sectors support themselves.

Arachnerd - a newcomer to Edmonton with spider powers, quickly growing in power as her spider population grows.

Armageddon - an epic believing the world should be ended, recently arrived in Edmonton.  Converting a large group of people in the area to his cause, but currently does not have any epic allies.  [NTD - I don't think "blowing up the Universe" is an allowable power, even with the significant weakness.  Do we have an updated version on this?]

Nicroburst - notable for his rare meta-ability to enhance powers.  His location is a well sought-after secret.

*Note: Epics with a Prime Invincibility are starred.

Newcomers

Lately, some of the survivors of Oregon's destruction have been noted in the area.  While the part they played in Oregon's destruction is varied, these epics should be watched carefully, lest they bring a similar level of destruction to Edmonton or the surrounding area.

Scribbler - from the Dalles.  Can manipulate ink, and manifest imaginary beings or objects from words she has written.

MV - moved between Portland and the Dalles.  Previously in the company of her twin, Impact, an epic with complementary abilities, and Backtrack, an epic with the ability to see the past.

Impact - MV's twin, with the ability to impart momentum to anything she touches.  Also seen in the area.  No sign of Backtrack.  Though originally aligned, there are indications the twins' may now have cross purposes.

Neverthere - astral projector from Portland.  A nuisance.

Red - a blood manipulation epic.  Not much is known about her, but a known association with the epic Nighthound alone is cause for suspicion.

Voidgaze* - a fairly powerful epic with offensive color based abilities and a resurrection PI.  Generally not aggressive.  To limit power, stay away from white things.  Accompanied by Big Al, an epic with the ability to generate fast food.

Ray - can produce energy lances.  Another former associate of Nighthound.  Watch closely.

Upgrade - last seen heading North from Portland.  Could be in the area.  If found, keep him away from other epics at all costs.  His enhancement abilities are a dangerous tool in the hands of other epics.

Euphoria - one of the former leaders of Corvallis with emotion based abilities, last seen with Rainmaker, but the supreme Corvallis leader has not been seen since.  Travelling with a group of Corvallis survivors.

Taylor Swift - extremely dangerous shapeshifter.  One of our American teams currently has her weakness, and report their hunt has brought them into the area.

Notes:

The wellbeing of Edmonton's people might be at risk.  The death of [NTD - BLANK], has destablized the region, and smaller factions are becoming bolder in the wake of Steelheart's death.  We will need to watch this region carefully, and be prepared to intervene to protect its people.

Still Needed Before Prologue Can be Written -  I think the main thing missing is an "inciting event".  So far the four main things I can think of are the death of the major faction leader who was trying to take over the city, the leak of Epoch's weakness, the death of Steelheart, and the arrival of the Oregonians.  Any ideas on how to put this together in a way that will drive the plot forward?  I can probably come up with something, but I wanted to put this out there to see if there were any last minute thoughts first.

EDIT : Also, it looks like our Oregonians will likely be entering Edmonton from the south, which means Epoch's faction will likely be the first one they run into.

For the Pharia Statue, I can't quite remember who it was, but I think somebody threw in the idea of an Epic that ended up turned into a stone statue?

One more epic before I go post the others:

Name: Blitz

Gender: Female

Real name: Ada Henderson

Power: Fire manipulation, enhanced physical abilities, able to ride and control air currents. One is always surrounding her, preventing her from being harmed.

Personality: originally compassionate and outgoing. Now a complete jerk, kills people for fun, no mercy, you get the idea. Practically insane.

Weakness: if she thinks that she will die, her powers are greatly negated. So scare the crap out of her to engage weakness.

So what level of fire/aur manipulation are we talking about? Bpth strength and fine control wise. And how strong a protection is the one surrounding her? Does it just push physical objects away from her or does it do anything more complex than that?

Alright, Armageddon is based in Baturyn park. He uses the both the school and park as a base of operations, where his underlings train for combat. At the moment, there's a construction project constantly going on. It's nothing special, just a wall/fence around the park and schools. Most of his underlings only spend some time there, but the people with previous combat training or other distinguishable characteristics are his leaders, and most live there, commanding the lowest. Let me know if I should change any of this. Google maps tells me it's roughly Baturyn, AB T6H 2Z8, Canada.

What services has the government kept up?

That’s probably up to us.  It would be nice if power and water were still there.  Do the faction heads think there could be enough cooperation to facilitate that.  According to google, I think a major water facility would be on the northeast side of the city.  We could also make it so the city has implemented solar power now and has solar farms since the wider grid connecting the rest of the country is probably cut off.

I’m guessing public transit no longer exists, or if it does it’s managed but Epoch.

Oooo idea!  How about this:  For the prologue, I have an idea in the works for how Doubletake is defeated.   What if Doubletake has a favoured lieutenant with the ability to grow  or shrink in size based on the strength and type of their emotions.  Their anger and pain when Doubletake dies is so great they are able to grow to a monumental size, but are subsequently turned to stone before they can crush anything (I have an idea for this as well).

If so, I’m thinking that would be somewhere close to the legislature building.

Yeah, I do like that idea, and Epic powers do have a tendency to go haywire with strong emotions anyway. Though now I wonder what would have happened if she meet Euphoria.

@Comatose @Edgedancer this is Pariah's backstory (she is one of Drake's characters):

Quote

Attacked Edmonton some time ago, damaging several buildings and killing a handful of normals as well as a lesser epic. Got pinned down in a firefight with two of the local powers, and then stuck in a slow zone while in her statue form.

The city's epics continued to periodically fire upon her from outside the slow zone, forcing her to remain transformed while the slow zone intensified over time.

She is now sealed there, a jet-black statue glaring at everything around it. People still never walk through that part of the city, her power still keeping anybody from entering the area.

Theoretically, she will eventually get free, when she finally drops the transformation and steps out of the effect. But there will be warning of this as she moves herself out of the time zone at a glacial pace. Or there will be much less warning, if the time zone disappears.

Cool!   Thanks.  Once again something I must have skimmed over in my review of 30+ pages last night.

@Drake Marshall any chance we can add in emotional size manipulation to her powerset to make the living statue more intimidating/dramatic?  Sorry if her powerset is out there somewhere.  I haven’t found it and am just going off of the selection posted above.  What do you think of her being Doubletake’s second in command?  If you are intending on RPing her at some point feel free to reject these ideas.

Alternatively we could have two living statues of different sorts.

Also @Edgedancer I agree about Euphoria.  Hopefully they don’t meet up if we go that route.

Pariah's abilities:

Quote

Abilities:

  • Nobody can willingly be within 50m of her. Those that attempt to do so will inexplicably find excuses not to. An individual who is particularly determined to approach Pariah will experience confusion, as their mind tries and fails to come up with a good enough excuse to not enter the area, and will ultimately be able to identify that some kind of power is keeping them from entering the area. However, they will still find it impossible to make themselves enter the area.
  • Can transform herself and everything on her person back and forth between a totally invulnerable, immobile statue composed of a smooth, nonreflective charcoal-black substance. Transformation is instantaneous and happens the moment she wells it to.
  • When not transformed, may charge up over about three seconds and then release a powerful, focused bolt of violet energy that causes a smallish explosion on impact.

Okay so fairly different than I was imagining.  Thanks for the quote and for the correct spelling.

I’m thinking I may try to separate the ideas and try to make them not too similar to each other.

I do like that she creates a dead zone around her.  But what keeps her from starving to death?

I can't exactly speak for Drake, but I assume that becoming a statue creates a stasis-like condition in which bodily processes are slowed to nearly a complete stop, meaning she is virtually immortal.

Anyone else willing to have some Maple characters that aren't necessarily Reckoners/in government/military?
I'd be really interested in have a subplot of ordinary people and their lives in the city.

I would be relatively opposed to a PI like that which rendered literally everything inert, a couple of reasons:
1 -If they're completely frozen then they can never unfreeze because their mind is also in stasis.
2 - If they could maintain consciousness without a brain they would very quickly go insane. It'd be like solitary confinement but even worse because you literally couldn't move at all. And also combine that with general Epic mentality.
3 - PIs that render even natural forms of death impossible seem unlikely, I believe Brandon has stated that even High Epics can die from illness or old age. I feel like being malnourished is probably in that same category.

I was thinking just 4 blocks total, but now, your argument has me convinced.  The barrier is slightly translucent.  This place is probably the source of power for a large chunk of the city.  People don't go out often, besides a regular delivery once a week.  If someone does come out, they seem either unwilling or unable to speak of what it is like inside.

NOTE:  The Epic is not OP.  I will confirm this with Edgedancer if he is for sure the GM.

@Drake Marshall this is mostly targeted towards you, since Pariah is your character.

I agree with Voidus about Pariah's stasis.  I'm fine with a stasis of some kind, but it shouldn't function as a form of immortality.  Epics with PIs are invincible, not immortal.  I'll wait for Drake to comment though.

Cool.  What do you mean by "source of power".  Like electrical power?  Is there a power station or power producing epic there?

Also, I will say that in the past, we have been pretty transparent among writers about our characters (though we have kept plot pieces back for surprises at times).  I don't think it's an issue that you are keeping information about the epic back, but I also don't think you have to worry about people knowing information, since for the most part people are pretty good at keeping what they know as writers and what their characters know separate.

Okay, here is our next go at the summary with some more items filled in.  I added some water and power centres I could find from google to the map.  Water is the waves, power is the plug, and solar power is the sun.    I figured these might be somewhat strategic locations.

Life for maples in Edmonton is fairly normal compared to Canadian centres of similar size.  Many still go to work and raise families.  Businesses in the more stable areas are still operating.  While the city lacks the wealth of services and amenities it once provided, so long as people steer clear of the Belt, and other dangerous epics, they can be relatively happy with their lives.  Power, heat, and water services remain mostly intact, due in part to some measure of cooperation between the various factions to keep the city running.

Short term memory is lost first, and then long term memory starts to go, but is more easily recovered. These effects intensify the longer the person is out in the storm.  If the person stays in the storm for longer than a few hours, the memory loss effects begin to become permanent, but otherwise the person begins to recover when the the storm ends and they head indoors.  It is usually difficult or possible to recall events that happened while a person was out in the storm, as the short term memories or not properly recorded.

(4) The Black Forcefield - Surrounding the "Mystery Epic's Sector", this black translucent impenetrable field blockades a small section of the city, only allowing for one way in or out.  The force field stretches above the highest buildings in the sector, and can be seen from the surrounding area.

(5)  Phytomagnet's Plant Structures - Mostly located in the Sherwood Park Natural Area. How his powers were used to do this is unknown, as we have not been able to actually watch him construct any of the structures. Attached are a couple of quick sketches of two of his creations.

Black Forcefield Faction - Located in the northwestern portion of the city, taking up a small area about four city blocks squared.  The maples who live there seem to be controlled by some sort of Epic, but the identity of the epic, and the extent of their powers, is shrouded in mystery.  People rarely leave the area, besides followers of the mystery epic making regular deliveries to the outside world.  When residents do leave, they appear either unwilling or unable to speak of what is inside.  The sector, consisting of about four city blocks, is surrounded by a black forcefield with only one visible entryway.  The faction is largely neutral and avoids conflicts with others.  [NTD - insert explanation of the "power" this area is a source of].

Doubletake's Faction - This faction was in the process of trying to take over the entire city when Doubletake was defeated.  At the faction's height Doubletake's agents had infiltrated every corner of the city, providing her with an impressive intelligence network.  Doubtake began extorting other epics and maples for money, and those who refused to pay her would often disappear.  Now it is unclear whether someone else will step in and take control, or whether this faction will be disbanded.  Doubletake's faction had taken over the Alberta Legislature Building, and have now left it abandoned.  While it is clear Doubletake, and some of her prominent epic followers, were defeated and killed, the exact details were wiped away by the Dream Storm, leaving the circumstances of her defeat a mystery.

The Cult of Armageddon - A new group in the city, currently located at Baturyn Park in Northern Edmonton.  Aside from the leader, Armageddon, the entire group are maples, and all are intent on bringing about the end of the world.  These radicals should be watched closely, and it may be wise to take steps to neutralize their epic master before things get out of hand.

Key Epics of Edmonton

See full epic profiles for a more detailed explanation:

Epoch* - a former local politician with time manipulation, reincarnation, and clairvoyant abilities.

Doubletake* - Deceased, an epic precognition, self duplication abilities, and improved reflexes.  Was killed in an attempt to gain control and assert her dominance over the city after her weakness, strobe lights, was discovered.  The exact circumstances of her death were wiped from the memory of the witnesses in the dream storm.

Mystery Epic - an optical illusionist epic, potentially with forcefield powers or with an ally who can create forcefields, who is shrouded in mystery, but is theorized to be the unknown leader of the Black Forcefield Faction.

He claims he has the power to end the Universe, should he acquire enough powers, but after speaking with and observing his followers, the more likely explanation is that he possesses some sort of ability to command or influence the people around him.

Nicroburst - notable for his rare meta-ability to enhance powers.  His location is a well sought-after secret.

Chrysalis - An epic with enhanced physical capabilities, defensive carapace, gifting, and minor compulsion abilities.  Has recently asserted dominance over Calgary and is attempting to rebuild from the rubble and ash that was left of the city.  Thus far, Chrysalis's attentions have been focused on solidifying his power, but he should be watched in case he intends to turn his attention northward.

Taylor Swift* - extremely dangerous shapeshifter.  One of our American teams currently has her weakness, and report their hunt has brought them into the area.

*Note: Epics with a Prime Invincibility are starred.

Notes:

The wellbeing of Edmonton's people might be at risk.  The death of Doubletake has destablized the region, and smaller factions are becoming bolder in the wake of Steelheart's death.  We will need to watch this region carefully, and be prepared to intervene to protect its people.

The Epic’s main strength is in secrecy and intimidation.  They would probably lose to the MEC if they realized that they were weak and had the right Epics to attack.  However, the mystery Epic is an extremely powerful illusionist, so they would face some difficulty.  The territory only contains 2-3 Epics.  The power is provided by solar panels being fed extremely bright light 24/7 through illusions.  The force field is a dome.

Who is legacy?  And also, upgrade is another person Nicroburst will be fun with :P

Hiya everybody.

I've been otherwise occupied for the day, but I think there are some things I should comment on.

I approve of this. Nicely done.

Once I give it another look over, I will be explaining an idea I've been working on, which would be relevant to the state of the city if it were accepted.

Random thought for creating tension at the start of the story.

What if one of the newcomer epics killed Doubletake? This creates instant tension between the newcomers and the old guard.

The old guard could even call a big meeting about it. But it probably wouldn't be productive because they would be swiftly becoming rivals with each other.

Okay so fairly different than I was imagining.  Thanks for the quote and for the correct spelling.

I’m thinking I may try to separate the ideas and try to make them not too similar to each other.

I do like that she creates a dead zone around her.  But what keeps her from starving to death?

In her statue form, she wouldn't starve.

More to the point, her statue is trapped in possibly the most intense slow zone in the entire city.

To her, it hasn't even been a full minute yet. She isn't going to starve in that timeframe.

1. She remains able to think as a statue. Otherwise, as you say, she couldn't transform back (unless the ability worked by setting a time in advance, but that's not how the ability works, it has to be consciously controled).

2. She would go completely insane in the situation you are describing, yep (or at least she would get much more insane, epics are already on shaky mental ground). But like I said, time is passing for her very slowly at the moment, so she really hasn't had anywhere near enough time to suffer the effects of insanity.

3. Incidentally, she could die from old age in the statue form. Her body doesn't change, but like I said, her mind is still running, and so it still ages. Even in a younger body, her mind would eventually get old and die.

That said, I don't really think starvation applies the same way, because:

  • We have multiple epics that can make food appear, which is certainly countering starvation.
  • Compared to aging, starvation is a relatively simple biological problem.
  • Her body is incapable of doing anything that would burn calories.

I forget who said Eon, but sure, lets do something like that.

Actually, lets make it an acronym, because why not. Eon was difficult to find one for, but something similar:

Edmonton Reclaimation Accord.

ERA for short.

Timezone explanation works for me but in that event she has no way to judge the situation happening outside or judge when it is safe to unfreeze. Everything would be moving at like 4000x speed.

Creating food isn't the same thing as being immune to starvation.
The only solution to starvation on a biological level is to consume more food, unless their power lets them do that then it's not a simple task.
Thinking or perceiving in any way consumes calories (In a not-insignificant quantity)

What if one of the newcomer epics killed Doubletake? This creates instant tension between the newcomers and the old guard.

The old guard could even call a big meeting about it. But it probably wouldn't be productive because they would be swiftly becoming rivals with each other.

That's an interesting idea, but the question is who. I don't think any of the newcomers have both the drive to kill her and the ability to put up a fight. Armageddon, maybe, but he'd need to gather up quite the army to throw at her first. Which would be hard, if he arrives there shortly after his whole cult got murderized. (Side note, I'd be interested what happens when he shares a drink with Obliteration.)

Steelheart was at least immune to suffocation, so I don't think anything else but old age is really a problem.

@Comatose

Legacy is in my Epics of Oregon list (it’s in my signature and there’s a link in my epics of Edmonton profile).   She and Peregrine never got used.

It was interesting seeing Nicroburst come together knowing Updgrade was already around.  I didn’t get to RP him much after he was adopted so I was hoping to do so in Edmonton.

@Drake Marshall those explanations satisfy me I think.

I did have an idea I’m already working on  for how Doubletake gets killed already, but I will post the prologue here for approval first before opening the thread.  I can probably work at least the common belief that a new epic did it (which will still add the tension you were thinking of).   I will wait to hear your idea as well though.

Do you know who leaked Epoch’s weakness?  With her infiltration of other factions, I was thinking Doubletake might have uncovered it and used it as blackmail by setting it up so an underling leaked it in the event of her death?  If you have other plans that’s fine though :).

We should probably also figure out alliances and diplomacy between the factions - who is aligned, friendly, neutral, unfriendly, enemies, etc. with whom.

One of my main worries when I made him was that he was too like Obliteration, but I think I changed it up reasonably. Also, who is Doubletake? I didn't see them on the summary.
